You could use a full laundry basket & lift it behind your head or tricep dips using the seat of a chair. Those work for me when I can't get to the gym as far as tricep exercises. I think they have a demo for the tricep dips in the fitness section

until you get some weights you can use something like large water bottles - hold them over and to the back of your head with your arms at a 90 degree angle; then you just lift the weight up and down, 8-10 reps two or three times

Thanks for the suggestions. I also checked out Fit TV's videos by Gilad on arm workouts. Now, to get some small light weights to work with.

Probably the easiest would be using a resistance band and doing a pushdown or a kickback. Basically for a pushdown you stretch the band around a stable place and stretch and pulldown (sort of like a row). On the kickback, you stand with the band below your feet, bend over 45 and alternate moving your arms as far back as possible. Whatever you do, take it nice and slow and easy and work your way up.
Hope this helps.

This is my first week attempting the basic strength training routine suggested by this site. I found I could not do even one of the tricep exercises (where you use a chair to hold and lift your body in a sort of squat with your arms).

Suggestions greatly appreciated.
