This morning I cleaned the formal parlor and started to tidy the living room. Then I lost all momentum and have been goofing off.

I want to finish the living room today, tidy the kitchen, and maybe start cleaning the office.

Thank you Linda! for responding to one of my posts which got me looking for a thread like this one.

Fortunately, due to a knee injury, the other day I had a couple people helping me catch up with a bunch of things around the house. I so needed that.

Later tonight I'm going to do laundry and go shopping. Now the trick is to make sure I do that tonight and not tomorrow, or sometime in the future. Will report back.

I made a list this week on things I want to get done. The list helped yesterday. I picked two simple things, put folded laundry away and plan meals out through Friday.

I used to make long lists of things to do each day. I would then get upset with myself for not finishing them all. Now I pick two or three things each day that I definitely want to do and do them. I was told about www.flybaby.net and that has helped me tremendously. I spend little bits of time each day doing things. I'm not as overwhelmed.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I don't always do well writing it down. I've started a system where I try to do 2 to 3 things per room, and just work my way around the room each day trying to do 2 to 3 things. I just verbalize it in my head.

It is working pretty well!

I get overwhelmed a bit as I have so much to do. However, I just focus on my mantra "steady progress."

Looks like this topic needs a recharge so not sure that you hijacked it all that much NUTTYGAL.

To get on track with this topic, I need to make a list of my tasks. I have plenty of tasks floating in my head, but have a hard time staying on track when I forget half of them. So here it goes:

Tasks for Sunday
weed vegetable bed and sow salad seeds
mow front yard
hang blinds that I've had almost a month
get 30+ minutes of cardio
finish decluttering kitchen counters - started yesterday but didn't finish
grill a couple of chicken breast for meals the next few days.

2. Make a list of small tasks I would like to keep up with throughout the work week

Reading this thread really hit home what my ADD coach used to tell me when I worked with her two years ago. She told me that I try to do TOO MUCH. My to do lists were always huge and I just assumed that I "wasn't good enough" for a long time.

My lists are still big and I am much better at not judging myself for moving things or not getting things done. I know my weak spots (dislike making phone calls, getting sucked into the internet/movies or hyperfocusing on "researching" things online) and I learned how to support myself.

I forget what I spent my time on at the end of the day and when nothing on the to do list is crossed off I begin to feel angry and overwhelmed. Sooo I started a second list of the things I actually DID that includes all the little things (eg. make my bed, reply to email, read magazine, practice yoga, etc) which helps a lot. I can now see what I spend my time on (what is important to me) and it makes me more aware throughout my day as I'm constantly updating the list so that I can make the choice to continue doing something not on the list or to switch to doing something on the list. Then at the end of the week I can see all the things I've done and WOW I do a lot! (Even if that just means I watched 8 television episodes, I can reframe my day that it wasn't "wasted" watching a LOT of tv, but that I made a choice to watch so much and then I don't feel so out of control.)

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, though I guess that was my way of avoiding my ongoing task of looking for a job (which is incredibly overwhelming to me due to the huge lack of control factor.)

I see that I was the last to post here. I did finish reading the book. It was really informative and comforting. I learned the term, "screensucking" which is what I do to escape. Mostly on the computer, but sometimes the television screen. So my task for tomorrow in not to screensuck. lol

Working this week on finding items for a community garage sale Saturday while decluttering. Very hard to stay on track with stopping to look at stuff and forgetting the main task - to find as much to sell as possible. Helps to have the sell boxes right there and price articles with stickers as I put them in.

I recently read an article out of an ADD mag which was entitled, "Tie the Bow". It meant finish it. Finish this one thing completely. It has helped me a lot. A bow is pretty....a nice thing to think about as I am thinking about leaving a task unfinished. I left a lot unfinished yesterday.

I can only focus on a few things at once. Apparently exercising and eating right is the biggest of my attention, that I am forgetting the little things like mailing off a check, calling my Dr. for a med change, looking for a new job. By the end of the day, I'm beyond irritated that I am in a bad mood because I don't have enough time in the day to do what needs to be done. Then I can't sleep so I end up sleeping in and it's a circle I can't win. I did manage to mail the check that needed to get mailed though.

today i have three daily tasks:
1) finish a patch on a program that is due today
2) walk home rather than take the bus from work
3) treadmill time for a good cardio workout

status update: 2 out of 3 are done :) and i still have time

Same goals as always.Pick up around here, and do laundry, do some exercise!But I also have to shop for my Son's 9th B-day this Sunday, and make ghostly cupcakes for his class tomorrow.Found some ghost cupcake tins at the dollar store.Will make them with white frosting, and outline them in black.Thank Goodness I'm just making enough for class, because they sound really good!:)

I completed these tasks, and thoroughly enjoyed my day with the family! I really enjoyed my son's soccer game,it was Awesome!AND he got a goal!I haven't gotten to a lot of the games,(work) so this made it extra special.Today will be different goals, as I need to pick up around here, and do laundry.

Quarky, this is a great idea. I do this sometimes when I'm cleaning and didn't realize I was doing this. I also use a timer around the house when working on tasks/chores. Usually it's 15 minute intervals but it gives me such a sense of accomplishment to have worked on my kitchen, laundry, yard and lesson planning all in the same morning.

I get very overwhelmed by daily tasks and find them hard to finish, so I decide to do things in lists of ten, rather than deciding to finish. So, I will put ten things in the bin. Then I will put away ten things. Then I will wash ten things. This gives me a sense of completion, each time I reach ten, rather than a vague sense of unfinished tasks.
