Another thing you can try, or ask your doc or running store to show you, is how to tape your foot that hurts.

I developed PF when I was training for a marathon. Lucky for me my aunt is a PE teacher! She showed me how to tape my arch so that it really supported it while I ran. After the marathon I took some time off, but still taped when I started running again. It took me about a year until I ran without taping.

I had an issue with this before for about 6 months and it was horrible. Taking spinning class was one of the best activities for keeping it stretched out. Also, my PT told me NEVER get out of bed and put your feet directly on a hard floor. Always have a good pair of slippers or Crocs (that's what I use) available. It makes such a difference.

I've had this problem before, now it's gone. I did the exercises prescribed but for me it was a change in shoes, Asics and also a pair of Nike+ shoes both with Superfeet insoles. I no longer have a problem..so maybe it would work.

My running store likes ASICS, and found I have flat arches so I have like the gel 8 or something? My husband has the ASICS foundations. They also sold me inserts with arch supports.

I noticed ASICS is what they wear on Biggest Looser as well.

ALSO, I am careful to only run on a squishy high school track as a half mile on concrete sidelined me
but
I have to say I do a lot of bicycling as well since the great concrete mistake. I don't know if it's helping my feet, but it's helping torch calories.

Yes, I have the 1011's. I really like them, but I might try the 1225's you have next. It will be time to replace them in a couple of months anyway.
Thanks for the info . . . emoticon

New Balance Running Shoes: The following New Balance running shoes help with heel pain (plantar fasciitis): 1225, 1123, 1011, 850, and 993.

I actually have had my 1225's for a little while now. I cannot say enough great things about these shoes. Note: I wear a size 12 women's, so it is very difficult to find shoes that fit. I seem to always have to shop in the men's section.

I would suggest going to the New Balance store and having them tell you exactly which one will work with you.

Basically, take your orthodic with you to the store and have them fit it in your shoes. Good luck...

What number is your New Balance shoe? Just curious - I was told that the higher the number, the better the shoe, but I don't know if that's true.

I have had it in both feet! So painful. Takes almost a year to get over it.

I have not had it again, in a while, since I had custom orthotics made for my feet. What a lifesaver. They are so expensive (about $800 without insurance), but so worth it. If you go to your podiatrist, get these made for you, if you can.

Also, New Balance is the only type of shoe I buy now, because they make a shoe specifically for people who put an insert in the shoe. I love them!

Thanks so much for the support. Sorry to hear that you are in the same boat as me. I am afraid the same thing will happen if I start the plan. GRRR like you said. I am searching now for a bike.

Sorry you're having trouble with PF. I'm struggling with it too. I just got rid of it after about 6 months and now I started the C25K and here we go again! Grrrrr- I'm at W2 D1. I have a bike so I guess I'll do that for awhile, but I really want to stay on the program.
I hope you find a bike that fits your budget. Hang in there!

Definitely look secondhand - Craigslist, ebay, Freecycle. (Not actually related to bikes.) Is there a Y near you? You might be able to afford a month or two membership instead of a bike, since it sounds like you'd rather be running anyway, so once the pain goes away, you're off the bike.

Absolutely talk to your doctor. Even if you've experienced the pain before, if it's changed, the causes might have changed, and then the treatment, too. Good luck to you!

thanks for all the advice. How were the cortisone shots? I hear they are extremely painful. I have thought about getting a spinning bike. But I am on a budget.

Ouch! I feel your pain! Literally! I suffered with Plantar Fasciitis for 9 mths! I was not running at the time, could barely walk. I did physical therapy, exercise, cortisone shots, and ice. It finally got better when I started bicycling every day. The motion of pedaling help stretch my achilles without putting weight on my foot. After three months of biking as my only form of exercise, I started walking and running. I have not had any pain since then. I do wear good motion control running shoes and wear an arch support insole in them.

Low impact workout until you loose more and then start the running. Biking is a great workout too. Almost like running but better on your body.

I start today and really want to succeed. Problem-Plantar Fasciitis! I have had it for several year but have always been able to keep it in check with a new pair of shoes. I can tell when my old pair has had it. Instantly better. However this time around is worse than usual and not getting better. I tape my foot, don't go barefoot, bought new trainers, and orthotics. Thinking it's time to see the doc again. emoticon I just want to be able to get moving on this C25K plan. But at the same time afraid I might make the injury worse. Any ideas.
