Yesterday I did W1D2 and I did all but the last 60 seconds of running. It was so windy outside and if I tried to run against the wind, it made me more out of breath. Sometimes I had to face the wind. I felt so lame for not being able to do 60 measly seconds of running. I did 25 situps as well, but it was busy yesterday so I just didn't really have time for anything else. Hello Friday! I plan on going to the gym today and using the elliptical.

Today I completed W1D1. It went pretty well, although I should have skipped the 1 hr. Turbokick class before getting on the treadmill! Next time I do it on fresh legs.

I am in such bad shape and definitely know I should not be. I want to learn to run! I am going to have really work to stay motivated for longer than two weeks, which is when I usually start to lose my focus. We can do this! Count me in!

Okay, so, these are the people who have responded to this post since SPRINGBELLE said they had enough for their group. So anyone on this list (or not on the list yet) that wants to make a new group, just reply to this post, copy and paste the list with a YES beside your name. I am going to go start a new Topic too, so you can respond there too if you like, and we can use that to keep in touch.

I started C25K today, and would love a support group like the one SPRINGBELLE got going. Anyone in?

I am a little worried, I'll admit... Day one was really hard! The cardio part was okay, but my legs and back hurt like crazy! Now I can barely move!!! So I need all the support I can get to keep it up!

I am ready to start C25K on March 1st. I tried it once, but was with two partners that took bigger strides than me and ran faster. I always felt like I was left behind and I got discouraged fast and quit. I am going to do it by myself this time, so I am not trying to compete with any one else, but will appreciate the support from this group. Has anyone tried the program on the treadmill?

193 down from 228 last year, but up from 178 over the summer. Motivation is my worst enemy, but I will overcome it.

I actually started today only because I think my husband wants us to work legs at the gym tomorrow. When I work legs I can't do any cardio or running that day. He works me pretty hard and cheers me on but I am pooped after that work out.

Morning all,

Please count me in on this C25K for March. I'm ready to run. I'll be 40 this year (Oct.) and it would be an awesome gift to myself to be able to run a 5k in my sleep by then.

Hey any newbies to C25K - this thread helped me find 5 brave souls who also wanted to start the C25K on March 1. We have decided 6 people is all we want to manage for our little "mini team".

If anyone else wants to take over this thread to find some C25K buddies to begin on March 1, it is all yours!

Hi team - I was perusing the WEEK 1 Blogs and I found a warning on shin splints (I get those walking hard) - also information about tracking the C25K on the fitness tracker. I copied those paragraphs here:

Take it easy on the shin splint so you don't make it worse though. More experienced runners here can give you more info, but I was under the impression that once you have that, pushing might make them worse? I don't know for sure.

Anyway, I asked the same question re: the fitness tracker/C25K and someone told me to just use the walk/jog 15 min mile and so that's what I use. And as others have pointed out, once you get to the longer running stretches, you can log them individually (20 minutes total running/10 minutes walking)

I'd like to join you too! I started a few months ago and re-injured my heel. (Anyone have plantar fasciitis? - It doesn't go away very fast!). So anyway, I have my podcasts downloaded, the right shoes, and the motivation (a friend wants me to run a half marathon with her in September - YIKES!) I really want to do it, but it seems like my heel just keeps messing up my plans.
I'm ready to try again. . . emoticon

I went back to the FAQ for the Couch to 5K Group SparkTeam Page. I was concerned about how I was going to make the correct intervals back and forth from walking time to running time.

On the FAQ there is a question specifically addressing this issue complete with internet site information.

We have 15 days to prepare. I don't know about you guys, but I am overweight, so I am going to pay particular attention to my knees and doing any preventive measures.

I printed out a series of warm up/cool down and stretching routines (from a warm up thread) that had pictures to show exactly how to do them. All information stresses to warm up and then stretch before running.

Most of these exercises look like they will be fairly easy and will feel good to the muscles they concentrate on.

There was a thread on shoes that shows Asics as the top contender, but the ones I found on line that would be best for me had a price tag of $90. I am going to have to simply wear the shoes I have for now. Asics had some great running clothes too.

I am going to start rewarding myself with money so I can save it up for some great gear. A few dollars for meeting goals will add up to a pair of shoes and some tights from Asics!

By starting the running program and making do with what I have now I won't have to spend any money. I will find out if running is for me (I believe it is, but I will see the reality soon enough.)

If I find I cannot run (knees, asthma, etc.) I won't have spent money foolishly on expensive running gear I can't use. (I don't want to wear it around to "look like I run" and be a poser!)

If I find I can run (sure hope so), I will be looking good in my new gear!

SGERBINE, OLDERMOMOF3, and BASEBALLMOM21,

That makes 4 of us for now. BBMom, you have begun the plan already, but you are more than welcome to be with us. You can blaze the trail!

I plan to use February to increase my walking and begin strength training as well as completing the 28-Day Plan Challenge.

Hopefully, by March 1, I will have shed some more poundage and increased my fitness enough to begin the C25K plan. I guess we'll find out!

I am very excited about becoming a runner. My big, long-term goal is to actually run a marathon in 2011. My short-term goal is to begin training to run in the best way.

I checked out "Running for Women" by Joan Benoit Samuelson who was the Gold Medal winner in the 1984 Olympic Marathon.

Who would know running better? It's older, originally published in 1995, but running is running. What caught my eye was that it was for women (I am a woman) and it includes information on "what to eat", "preventing injuries", etc. Information I want to know!

I added SGERBINE as a SparkFriend on my SparkPage so we can start to know each other before we start running and getting crabby!

I have now added BASEBALLMOM21 and OLDERMOMOF3's to my SparkFriends (OMof3's I didn't have the 's on the name so that is why I couldn't find you!)

I sent you all some "running shoes"! We have 2-weeks to prepare.

OK, we have 3 and maybe 4 to start Couch to 5K (C25K) on March 1, 2010. As many as wish to may come along with us for the adventure!

I checked to be sure that we don't need to have a mentor or guide or someone who has completed this as part of our group. Nope, we just need to start.

We simply (simply? Ha) follow the C25k plan posted on the internet from Cool Running (connection can be found in this "Couch to 5K Group" SparkTeam).

We can use our SparkTeam forum to find information about this in every stage from those who have done this and posted.

We can also use our SparkTeam to ask any questions we have along the way. Or find helpful information from questions already posted.

I am very excited to begin and so glad to have some traveling companions!

I wonder what our first day and first 2 weeks of messages will be like as we move into this... I can hardly wait!

Running shoes, I need to get some good running shoes. I don't want to forget that!

Hey Ladies,

Mind if I join you? For the last couple of months, I've been doing C2K very sporatically. Can't seem to get into a consistent pattern. This might be just what I need to get moving on a regular basis. I could certainly use the help! I have a treadmill so will be doing most of it on that given the constant snow and sleet we've been getting latelty. Marking my calendar!

Wow, SGERBINE, you do have your hands full. A husband, a 2-year old, and studying for classes...

However, it looks like it starts small and we won't start "officially" until March 1.

I am thinking the walking and running could actually help you feel better and lower stress.

Do you have the bucks at this point to invest in one of those jogging strollers? That way you could get in jogging for the longer times/distances without always having to find someone to watch the toddler.

What about late night or early morning jogging while your husband is home and the baby is asleep? Just trying to think of ideas to help make this work for you.

I would be more then glad to help you in any way. I really want to do this, but I am single at this time with 2 cats (Gadzooks, I'm an old lady!). My cats could care less when I come and go so that part is easy for me.

My challenges will be having an older body that I neglected!

We each have hurdles here. I am ready to do this and I sure could use some good company on the trip!

I really do want to start it again, but this semester is kicking my butt. I've been trying here lately but my working husband and 2 yr old are taking up my time. I know...excuses excuses...well I've got them.

You want to keep each other accountable? Maybe that would give me more motivation to get going (that and spring break in March!)

I just joined this SparkTeam because I would like to become a runner and this site was recommended for my current lack of running ability!

I just started an exercise program and have only been walking for about 30 minutes a day (some days I go up to a whopping 35 minutes).

Is there anybody out there who would like to begin the Couch to 5K on March 1 - and use February to drop some poundage and improve on the fitness level first???

I just feel I have been so inactive that I need to give my body the month of February to realize I am indeed serious about regular exercise.

My heart and lungs need to get used to exercise too and I need to buy good running shoes...
