I did W8D2 today. I had 4 days in between but my legs aren't even sore. It was hard the first 10 minutes but after that I was fine. It is kinda weird but if I can get past where I want to quit and walk I do fine.

Got W8D3 done today.... and then went to 2nd grade to run intervals with the kids. My daughter hates running and "is not a runner". 2nd grade is too young to define yourself like that! I explained I wasn't a runner last year, but we could "walk 4 trees, run 4 trees" around the "track" (aka field) and with time she can learn to run, just like anything else. It takes TRAINING. She recruited 3 of her running hating friends, and we had a BLAST! We did 3 laps around the field, and those kids SPRINTED. (gee, thanks for the speed work, but I already ran 2 miles today kids!)
no, I didn't say that.
I couldn't complain considering the crowd!

Now my daughter wants me to come to school every day and teach running at recess.
(what have I started???)
They seemed to be counting trees w/o me just fine!

Anyhow, off to week 9, then the "bridge to 10k" program... and my 5k in 12 days!

Completed D2 this morning. It was a beautiful 8 degrees, a little cool for the first 10 minutes but was great temp for the last 20 min. I'm starting to really struggle with my shin splints again, which is frustrating. It takes a good 5+ minutes into a run before I actually feel like i'm running a normal stride, but then the rest of the run is fine. I have two bags of green peas that have become my best friends. emoticon Keep up the great running everyone! Think of how far we have come in these past 8 weeks!!!!! We are RUNNERS!!!! emoticon

Just got back from my run for day 1, a little better today than last week but still had to stop a few times to catch my breath. Did 3 miles in just over 40 mins so not too bad as that was with my warm up and cool down too. I am going at lunch time to sign up for my 5K on 5/8 which will be just when I finish week 9. Not sure what I will do after that but has been good for me to do this. It was pleasantly cool this morning but with a bit of wind, as it gets hotter not sure I will be able to keep running unless I stick to the treadmill. Maybe will have to get out my bike and try that for a while so at least I can carry my water with me.

I completed W8D1 this morning and had to push myself more than I did last week. About 20 minutes in my legs almost decided to stop, but my brain had the greater power and after a couple of minutes things returned to a good normal. It was really hard for some reason to think of other things than the time as well this morning, normally I think about anything and everything and the distance seems to move by a lot faster. I really had to force my brain to change the subject. I did it though and I feel good for doing it. Now for some ice on the shins and my day has started great! emoticon

I just completed W8D1. I can't believe I actually ran 28 minutes straight! It was hard, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Finished W8 last night. It had been raining all day and by 6:30pm I realized it wasn't going to stop, so I grabbed my husbands rain pullover and headed out to face the elements! My pace was slower, but not too horribly, and I was glad I did it.

I signed up for my first 5K. It is next Saturday! What a way to end W9! I hope I'll be able to do it - trying not to worry about finishing last!

LJones, I've had a difficult time with week 8 too. I made it through D1, but was exhausted. When I ran D2 it was hot and I was out of energy. I had to stop after 15 minutes and take a 2 minute break. I ran the remainder of the time but it was a struggle. Hopefully D3 will be better!

Thanks, SHAWN_Z! I am setting a goal for myself to find - and sign up for - a 5K before I complete next week. ~cue scary music~

Today was W8D2 and it seemed a little harder than D1. I changed the route, because it was still dark this morning and some of my usual route is VERY dark and deserted ~scary music again, please~ so instead, I just ran around the .5 mile loop in my neighborhood 5 times. It was pretty boring and after the 3rd time I passed my house, I just wanted to go in and pour myself a cup of coffee - HA! But, I finished and felt better for it.

I seem to be averaging about 5+/mph runs and my longest run to date has been 2.6 miles. I was a bit discouraged when I found that out the other day, but I guess I will continue to focus on the distance and the speed will come?

Hope week 8 is treating everybody well! Keep up the great work!

W8D3 tomorrow - wow, can't believe one more week and I am done!! I struggled here and there too but I didn't allow myself any excuses, I just pushed through and did it. I am learning that just as I usually talk myself out of things I can also talk myself into things.

really struggling with week 8 - not quite sure why - week 7 just breezed by, but not week 8 - I'm wondering if it's the other things I'm doing as well - I started Jillian Michael's 30 day shred in the a.m., then run after work - that's the only difference

Completed W8D1 today with relative ease. I hate to say that for fear of jinxing the next run, but it really was a breeze and I enjoyed myself a lot! I wasn't scared about the increase in running time after week 7, I think because I gained a lot of confidence with those 25 min. runs. I am looking forward to D2.

The only problem I'm having - can't bite the bullet and sign up for a 5k yet. That really scares me!!! Help!

Week 8, day 2???

I ran a 5K on Sunday!! It was absolutely amazing. I am so in love with racing now. I ran the whole thing, even up a hill, and finished in 33:26! This is a huge victory for me! I went into the race hoping to break 38 minutes and just ran at a comfortably hard pace. What a rush it is passing people, and the atmosphere. It was just one of the best experiences of my life!

Week 8 done!!!
Seems I once again forgot to log day 2... I only remember that I did sweat day 2.
We had another family Easter today! I was hanging out for my run after that, and so took 5 yo, daddy & myself off for an evening run to the creek again.
I have had a few late nights of drinking red wine and ensured I drank a lot of water before heading out.
Started tired but picked up pace in second half. Looking forward to week 9 and my first race next Saturday- Yikes!
Hey Coral! I took a week off in week 6, felt fantastic the following week and so plesed with my progress!

We are in sync Javalovertoo!
I did week8, day 1 today.
I loved my run today!
Ran mostly on dirt tracks and also crossed a creek via boulders with new found confidence in my balance.
Met up w partner & son & finished the last 4 minutes off with a race, 5 yo's can run really, really fast!

Started week 8 today. I had to go back and check were I was, kept thinking I was in week 7! Did good, today was a little slow, I ran a little yesterday and walked all combined 5 miles. I am going the Susan G. Komen 3-Day and will need to start ramping up my mileage by walking.

What is everyone thinking about doing after they graduate the 5K program?

Hi all! I kindof wandered off the routine of the program, but I'm still running. Started running in my neighborhood, lots of hills so it's slow going! Did 3 miles today and it took 50 minutes...jog and walk. Goal....continue that same run, cut the time down till it is about 40 minutes.

Great work to everyone pressing on! Keep running, we can do this :)

W8D1 is done. I ran on the treadmill for the first time in weeks (it has snowed here and the roads are a little icy) and it was soooooo boring. I didn't really have a hard time physically with the run, but mentally I was ready to stop after just a minute or two of running. I listened to the podcast, watched the TV, played with the speed controls...anything to make the time pass. I think that the treadmill was fine for me when I was changing from walking to running at regular intervals - but it really pushed me today. Now I did it and I didn't stop and I am proud of that, but I can't wait for this snow to melt and to go back to running outside!!!

Today was W8D2, but it was actually the 5th time I did the 2.75 miles because of my hurt knee. So I think I will step it up Saturday and do 3.1 miles. I am definitely ready for the challenge of the full 5k. So moving right along to W9! See you there :)

Just finished Day 2! This week has been so much easier for me than Week 7, I'm loving it! I think the music choices have a much better beat too, so its easier to pass the time. I'm very slow, so I don't complete the entire 2.75 miles, but thats OK with me, I still can run 28 minutes without stopping! Before I started this, I couldn't even run 1 lap around the track (.25 miles) without stopping. I can't believe I only have one more week!

Great job everyone in W8! I decided to re-do this week as I had to take a week off or so to let my knee heal. I am back in the game though, and I did 2.8 miles outside today. The sun was shining, it was awesome! I will be doing W2 with a friend, so hopefully I will be able to keep my regular pace (it's hard to say right now who will have to keep up with who)

Week 8 Day 2 done!

It was raining outside so I did this run on the treadmill at the Y. I was really slow today! 2.78 miles done though. I hink my average pace (with the 10 minute warm up/cool down) was 4.4 mph.

Week 8 Day 1 finished. It was 85 degrees outside and I sure did feel it. Slowed it down more than usual (if that's possible emoticon ) and did 2.98 miles in the 38 minutes.

Just happy to have done it!

Way to go Anne. Running outside is addictive. lol... Finished W8D3 a little behind due to an injury, but back at it and on to week 9. I am running my first 5k run on Saturday.

Finished W8 outside! WOW! what a difference! My legs were well prepared thanks to the 3% incline I am used to running on! It went by so much faster than on the treadmill, and my husband was being funny, which added to the fun! Definitely doing W9 outside!!
