Yay, congrats RAESKATES! Welcome to week 6 (where I am stuck at the moment). I sometimes think that I walk faster that I run, but that, too, will improve :)!

Yay, I did W5D3 today. It was hot but it was the humidity that was the killer. Got it done and on to Week 6. The funny thing is that I warm up and run one way and when I am done, I turn around and walk back. It only took me 21 min to walk back what I ran in 20. I don't run too fast. LOL

I finished W5D2 yesterday. It went pretty easily, so I sure hope that I am ready for the 20 min run tomorrow. The biggest thing is that D2 was on a flat bicycle path and tomorrow will be back to my hills. Oh well, it will be good for me.

I did week five day three today, much easier than I was thinking it would be at the beginning of the week. Went 24 minutes.

I finished W5D1 today. I got up at 4:00 to let a cat out and it was still extremely hot out so I just decided to go to our rec center to run on the indoor track. I don't like it as well as running outside. I think it's very boring, although I enjoyed watching the boys at a basketball camp on the gym floor below. It is also easier because there are no hills but still pleased to get it done.

Don't worry about your pace, just work on your endurance for now. Very few people are able to finish the 5K in 30 minutes, it's just not enough time for most of us to be able to make that leap. I scheduled my first 5K for a couple weeks after my C25K ends, 'cuz I know, I'm going to need a few more weeks to build the endurance.

Congrats on getting though you first long run. It is such an accomplishment. I don't think I would worry about pace yet. You are just building your body up to do the 5K. After you get to the point where you can do the 5K then there are programs out that that help you increase your speed.

DID IT! W5D3!!! At first it was quite hard, but I actually had to check twice that the time was up, I could have gone on for longer!
Thank you so much for the support here, one thing that carried me through a hard bit was that I can come here and post that I succeeded

emoticon !

One thing worries me though a little bit, my pace has not picked up, I still have some distance to cover so that I can run that 5K in 30 minutes. How was your pace after week 5?

I finished Week 4 today so I am on to week 5 and the dreaded 20 min run. I have done the program before so I know I should be able to get through it but still it's always a big thing to do it for the first time in a long time. I am also not getting any younger. I wad 56 the first time I did it and now I'm 6 years older than that. Wish me luck :-)

W5D2 over. I now know what mind over matter means... If if would not have been for my cleverly crafted playlist, I'm not sure if I could have done. I think I ran too fast, gotta check that next time, which is Wednesday. I am already excited for that one :)!!

Just did my playlist for W5D1, D-day is Friday. Got some really nice music getting me through and a lovely 90 minute walk that I did today to help me with some basic endurance. Good luck to all of us :)!

Congrats! That 20-minute run in Week 5 is such a huge milestone for all of us to get past. I had to laugh a little when you said you ran an extra 30 seconds because I do that sometimes too. I get to the last 5 minutes and think there's no way I'm going to make it, but then I do and then I run an extra few seconds to prove to myself how wrong I was. It's like the positive voice in my head saying "na na na na na na" to the negative voice in my head.

I just made Week 5, Day 3. I am so happy. I had a positive attitude going into it, but I really wondered about it a lot in terms of how hard it would be. As usual, the first minute seems the hardest in a lot of ways since my body fights it. Once I found my pace, I was feeling strong until the last 3 minutes or so. I purposely didn't look at the clock until I got to a point in my route that I thought was past where 20 min would take me. Then I looked just to be sure my iPod was still on. ;). It read a minute and a half. I had to push myself to finish, but when the voice said to walk, I ran 30 seconds longer out of pure stubbornness! I am so thrilled to finally call myself a runner. I figure the last few weeks will be tough, but not as tough as today. It was the big hurdle.

W5D2 done, felt pretty good about it. Feeling positive about D3 but not sure when I'll be able to run it... I'm heading down to Va Bch for my niece's graduation/18th birthday, so running time will be limited. I may just have to wait until Monday.

Great job! I am taking the same attitude as you this time around with exercise. Instead of feeling like I missed my opportunity at a certain time of the day, I am forcing myself to exercise no matter what time it is even if it isn't until 8:30 p.m.! Keep up the good work.

W5D1 done and feeling good about it! I was planning on doing it this morning, but then life happened...fast forward, it was 6:30pm and I hadn't run yet. I didn't really feel like it anymore, but I decided to push through, 'cuz "I don't wanna" just won't cut it! Once I got through the first interval, I was feeling really good, and once I finished, I was so glad that I did it. I added extra intervals, too, after the plan, including one of almost 8 mins! emoticon

I ran Day 2 of Week 5 yesterday, but I was forced indoors because of rain. I ran on the treadmill, which seemed easier (yet boring) in comparison to outdoors. I plan to repeat Day 2 again tomorrow outside just be sure I can do it outside before I try Day 3 (the 20 minute run). I am looking forward to getting over that hurdle of the 20 minute run since I am not sure I have ever run longer than 11 or 12 minutes in my life. :)

Well, I did it! Kind of. I ended up having to slow my pace twice, but I did keep running for the full 20 's minutes, and I guess that's what counts. I did the first mile (12 minutes) at 5.0, then dropped down to 4.7 for the next four minutes, then had to drop down to 4.5 for the last four minutes.

I would have loved to have kept up the 5 mph pace for the whole duration but I knew that if I tried that, I would just fall apart and not be able to finish.

On to Week 6 on Monday!

I know I've been able to do it in the past. We're strong enough for this. and there's no shame in slowing down! (I'm actually saying that to myself)

Edit: Just got back from the gym! i did it! it wasn't easy but I made it! Now I'm trying to decide if I should repeat week 5 for my shins' sakes or move on. I'll see how it feels Monday, I guess.

I did week 5 day 2 yesterday. In the first run I thought I couldn't finish it. I always think I won't be able to finish it, then I finish it and run some extra. I was on a trail that was uphill and I turned around at 1.5 mile. I ended up running the second 8 minutes then didn't stop til I got back to my car for 3 miles total. I calculated the second run turned out to be 18 minutes, so guess I'm ready for the 20 minute run.

Hello week 5! Day 1 was awesome today! I forgot to stop during the first 5 minutes. I"m on a treadmill and I have a deal with myself that I can't look at the time until the calorie counter says I've burned Xnumber calories. usually I get bored and look anyway. Today I felt so good I was just in my own world and finally glanced down at the time and my five minutes had passed plus a little more!

Best part...no shin splints. My trainer worked with the exercises my PT gave me last spring and gave me more advanced ones when I was ready. They are working like a charm! *knock on wood!

Did workout 2 of Week 5 for the first time yesterday. Those 8-minute runs were TOUGH. The second one was way worse than the first. I was actually pretty happy with the first run because I didn't even check the time until I was already at five minutes and thirty seconds, which I made it thirty seconds past the five minute length I had run in workout 1.

Finished my first go around at W5D1 last night. It went pretty well. I really only struggled toward the end of the final 5-minute run. I plan to repeat the workout again tomorrow and Friday before moving on to workout 2 on Sunday. If I do workout 2 three times as well, that means I'll be doing my 20-minute run a week from Saturday.

Good idea! I've done Week 5 day 2 three times and I think I'm going to do it one more time. The third time was last night but I was actually too tired to run so I didn't run the full second 8 minutes. I went out at 9pm and that was just too late.

I've done most of the weeks 4 times each, by then I feel ready to move on.

Tonight I am starting on Week 5! My plan is to actually spread Week 5 out over the course of two weeks. I will do D1 three times, then D2 three times, then finally do the D3 long run. That's the way I did it last time I completed C25k and I was glad I did. I'll do the same with Week 6.

Week 4 was so hard for me, I just can't imagine trying to run for a full 20 minutes less than a week from now. So I'm going to take it slow and hope I can do the 20 minute run sometime around the end of the month!

Just finished Week 5 Day 1...for about the 8th time :) I do fine until I get to Week 7 or so and then I think I get intimidated by the idea of 25 minutes. I will say, MAGNOLIA, that you can definitely go 8 minutes. I never thought I could but it's amazing how easy it is to keep going.

It's not so bad physically to do more than 20, either, it's the mental block!

Good luck!

Bravo everybody!

I did Week 5 Run 1 tonight. That was 3 intervals of 5-min runs withing 32 minutes. I did it without wanting to stop, but I ran slowly most of the time. Not sure I can run 8 minutes next time, but I'm going to give it a good try!

Just started week 5 after two "half weeks" of week 4 due to my travel schedule. I thought it would suck... but it didn't! It felt really good to be back in *my* gym and getting plenty sweaty while running for a total of 15 minutes (not consecutively yet, but soon!) I am not dreading the transitions ahead, just going to push on and keep trying! Your week 5 victories have been pretty inspiring!

Finished week 5 on Saturday when I ran/walked my first 5k. I did about 25 minutes of steady running and then walked the rest of the race. I did the race in about 40 minutes and was so proud of myself for completing my goal of running for 20 minutes straight. This was such a great experience. I will continue to do the c25k program and hopefully at the end of the program I will be able to sign up for another 5k and run the entire thing. I can't wait to do my next race!

Walked 5k on 4/27/13 due to being pregnant
1st 5k on 4/28/12
Completed c25k program 5/26/12

Started week 5 on Tuesday and just finished my D2 of week 5. I wasn't feeling as energetic when running today so I had to slow down my run a little. I'm pretty nervous for the 20 minute run for 2 reason. No. 1 is because I am actually going to run my 20 minute run outside for the first time and No. 2 is because I will be doing my 20 minute run in conjunction with my first 5k. I know what you thinking....... why would you sign up for a 5k before you have completed c25k??? What really happened was that my friend needed her friends to come out and support her for personal reasons (not fitness related) and at that point I thought it was going to be a huge group walking to support her. Now that we are practically at race day (Saturday is the race) I have found that others are going to show there support but are going to walk/run at their own pace. So, since I have been doing this c25k challenge I think I will challenge myself this saturday to do my 20 minute run and hopefully a little more then that. I will not be focusing on speed, just trying to get through the race running as much as I can. I am hoping that Saturday I will be back to report that I made it completely through the 20 minute run and came out of the race with a great beginner time

Ok I'm done now that I practically wrote a blog. emoticon

Good luck to you all. Happy running! emoticon

Finished week 5 yesterday. I can't believe I got through 20 minutes of running. I almost had a little celebration at the end! Can't wait to get to week 6.
