On Tuesday I completed W4 and it was awful, I had a bad head cold and could hardly do it, but I made it. Today, still feeling a bit sickly, I decided to try W5D1....it was the best run I've had yet!!!!! I think I've found my breathing, and the intervals seemed to fly by and after each 5min run I wasn't gasping for breath or begging to stop. I could have ran more after the last run but I want to pace myself a bit, especially still having a cold. I am a super slow runner, treadmill is now at 4.7, but I still felt great. It's also getting easier to go into the run positive and actually staying positive the whole time. That helps out a ton!

OMG! I finished. I did the whole 20 minutes. I started at 5.0 for the first 10 (the t I ran so far) and went down to 4.6 for the next 5 and 4.4 for the last 5, but I did it. So as a first time runner I am very very happy.

Congrats!!!! When I started week 5 I thought there is NO WAY I can do the 20 min., but when the day came, I just went for it. If you get tired, just slow your pace, and you'll be able to go much further. Good luck and report back!

Sorry to hear your kiddie are sick! I'm taking the weekend off! Part of the reason I'm thinking I'll continue the intervals! OH... and I've looked at the map of the trail I ran yesterday again... and I'm thinking I actually ran closer to 2 miles after all! Just read the map wrong yesterday. Makes me happy! Here's to completing week 5... and moving onto week 6 in anyway that we do it as long as we do it! =D AND good luck to those who are starting week 5 now... you can do it!!!

I think I've decided to go for 21 minutes next time , then 22, 23 etc. IMy treadmill has time, speed and distance too but I run much slower than you (4.0). I agree the intervals build up your stamina but mentally I dont want to go back. My kiddie are sick so I have to take a couple days break, but then I'm back to it!

Can't always run outside... today was just unusually warm! Looks like Tuesday we're back to a snowy winter... and back to the treadmill (or indoor track). The treadmill I've used has time, but it also tracks distance (or it's estimate of distance base on the speed you select). I've been running anywhere between a 5.5 and a 6.0 (I know the 6.0 is a 10 min. mile, but can't remember what the 5.5 is right now). I think I might just start running at a comfortable speed on the treadmill (or track) until I hit the distance marks now. I'm going to go back to the intervals too... I think it helps mentally to go back for me! AND it does help build up stamina... I think?!

Have you decided what you're doing for week 6 yet?

Since you are running outside I would run for distance. I would drive the course and mentally mark where 1 mile, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 up to 3 is and try to run to a farther marker each time. Once you get to 3 miles, start on your time.

For me, because I have to run on a treadmill, I am going to go for time (which is distance on a treadmill), then once I get to 30 minutes I'm going to work on speed.

I wish I could run outside!!!!

I'm kind of wondering if I should switch from time and focus on distance instead?! Like today was 2 miles or 20 minutes. I didn't run 2 miles, but maybe I should've done that instead... since I want to make it to 3 miles... and I'm pretty sure I can't do it in 30 minutes. You know? Any thought?

Congrats!!! That is awesome. I'm still shocked I did it. Now I'm trying to figure out if I want to go back to intervals or increase my time by one minute each time for example 21, 22, 23, 24 etc until I get to 30.

emoticon I did it... w5d3... 20 minutes straight. Not entirely sure distance 'cause I ran outside since it's so nice out! Guessing maybe 1.5 miles total. Not too shabby! Won't be the fastest in the race, but I think I can reach my goal of finishing (and running the whole 5K)!

Congrats to ROSEWCI and CAWABUNGA this week for making it through the 20 minutes too!! emoticon

Got my w5d2 in today! I almost didn't make it on the second 8 minutes... the first really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! I think I got 3 miles in during my 5 minute warm-up, two 8 minute runs, two 5 minute recovery walks, and a bonus 4 minute run... that gives me hope that I can actually do this! I have very mixed feelings about this 20 minute run for w5d3... I think I can do it, BUT!! (Gotta get rid of that BUT! and change the think to know!)

Congrats everyone!!! I did W5D2 today and I was hanging on for dear life for the last minute of the 8 minutes LOL. I am super stoked, yet scared for the 20 minutes on Wednesday. YIKES! I made it through w5d1!!!! I will admit the 3rd 5 minute jaunt was wearing on me. I had to slow down a little, BUT I made it though. I'm mentally preparing myself for the 8 minutes now... trying not to even think about the 20 yet!

Hi fellow C25Kers!

I haven't been posting my progress here (don't know why) so I thought I'd start.

I got as far as Week 5 Day 2 last week. The first attempt I couldn't get through the 2nd 8 minutes. The 2nd time, however, I did (yay me)! So this week I've decided to repeat all of week 5 and get through all 3 days (scared). 20 minutes straight feels very daunting. Day 1 is tomorrow.

I will let you know how it goes.

Just completed W5D1. Was pretty simple, but I'm SCAREDn for D2 and especially D3!!! Reading everyone else complete D3 (and you didn't pass out or die LOL) gives me hope. I know I can get to 20 minutes, it just may take me a few extra days. AND THAT IS OKAY. This is all 80% mental. I will not die from this, I will not die from this, I will not die from this!

I ran 20 minutes!!!!! Woooohooo!!!

I started off my run doing W5D2, but when my first 8 minute run went by super fast, I told myself..."You can extend your next 8 minute run into a 20 minute run. I know you can. Who is going to tell you you cant? NO ONE. I am going to do it. I am a runner". (yes, I actually talked outloud to myself on the TM!)

And I did!!!!! I ran the 20 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!

W5D3: Hard but not impossible! I pulled through the whole 20 minutes without stopping, but was going really, really slow of course. I am so incredibly proud of myself right now; I've never been able to run like this in my life, not even as a kid. My friend BETSYTIME and I registered for a 5K on March 20th, and even though it'll be a slow 5K I know I'll be able to do it.

Just finished my W5D3. Run the whole 2o minutes none stop and tucked on another 8 minutes. It was super cold and I felt as though my legs were frozen. Felt strong throughout & finished strong.THECHAUFFEUR, one more day and you are on your way to W6. Wow what a journey. W6 starts on Sunday for me. emoticon emoticon

Today was W5D2 for me, and I made it through. The first eight minute run was pretty easy, the second was hard. After the walk break my body started to feel tired and I couldn't get my breathing back on track. I think I'll be able to do W5D3 without too much trouble though - I felt like I could definitely keep going at the end of the first eight minutes, so hopefully I prove myself right!

Just finished W5D2 & tucked on extra minutes of running. A combination of stretching & the hiking has helped strengthen my legs. Felt pretty good & strong. Running to the podcasts & waiting for the cues really helps. W5D3 is on Thursday. emoticon

I inadvertently posted my W5 D1 on the W4 post, so here is my post for W5D1 - Completed W5D1 on Sunday, 1/30. This was after a killer hike the previous day. Starting my legs felt heavy but after a while they felt lighter. I was able to do extra. I did the run on dirt packed ground and it felt way better than the asphalt. I am almost in tears & giddy with happiness seeing the progress running & feeling the change in my body. I am heading out to do W5D2 & will be back to let you know how it went. Way to go TheChauffer for completing all the three 5 minute runs. You did it and you should be very proud of it. I am sure we will be able to do W5D3 when we get to it. For now we will stay in the moment

Ran W5D1 today! I was very impressed with myself for pulling out all three 5-minute runs. I was admittedly moving pretty slow, but I'm still rather proud of myself. I'm feeling optimistic about W5D2, but am absolutely terrified of W5D3.

Alrighty I went to do week five but on my version of couch to 5k I was suppose to be 6 min run and 1 off. Too much so I modified but was bummed that my Ipod battery was dead. No music but I did make it. I think it was due to it being a trail run.
25 minutes running yeah

FINALLY!! I took the advise of wiser people than me and slowed down my run from 5.0 to 4.7. It was almost easy! On to week 6.

Today I ran week 5a, and BOY was it hard. I set my runs up in my Garmin as a workout. I made the runs be until .5mi and the walks only 3 mins. I should have let that walking recoveries be longer. My first run was 5:30 and second was 5:15, but I was really pushing myself to the max there. I needed longer than 3 minutes to walk, but pushed into the third run. I got so winded I walked in the middle and then the last .05miles. And my legs felt locked up after.

I was trying to squeeze my run in and be somewhere later in the morning, and that had me racing harder than I should have. I also didn't get much water beforehand. All these things make for a tough run! I may do this one again Wednesday, just tohave a better run.

I just ran for the first time since November - I completed C25K in late May, running my first (and only) 5K race. Through the summer I kept it up about 3 days a week and was working towards 4-5 miles at a time. Then this fall, I slacked off to about 1 time per week, then 1 time per month...so, I jumped back on today and landed somewhere between week 5 and 6. I ran 5 minute intervals alternating with 3 minutes of walking. Wow, it felt great! I'm back and looking forward to it!!

I did W5D1 yesterday. I actually ran the 8/5/8 that you are meant to do on D2, it went well. So D2 will be the same run tomorrow & then Tues will be D3.

Today was my 3rd attempt at w5d3. I ran 8 min at 5.0 and 12 min at 4.5. This was the first time I had tried it with lowering my speed. woo hoo! I'm gonna stay on this day until I do the whole 20 min at 5.0.

Hi All! I just found this group today, and I'm so excited to read about everyone's experiences with the program!

Today I completed 5.2 and lived to tell about it!

I did 5.1 last weekend in a hotel gym and, though I was winded, didn't have much trouble. 5.2 tricked me though! I was used to all three runs in a week being identical. So, midway through the first 8-minute run I thought, "This sure is a LONG 5 minutes!!" HA! I hadn't looked ahead to see that they switched things up a bit in 5.2. BUT, I made it through the first 8 just fine. Had to take a break and walk a little during the second 8-minute run, so I redid 5.2 this morning. I refuse to move on until I have conquered a running session without stopping. Today was SO GREAT!!!! The first 8 was (dare I say???) easy! Blew my mind! The next 8 I got a little anxious with 2 minutes remaining, but I did it!!!

Terrified of 5.3, but reading about everyone success here, regardless of how slow, makes me feel a little better about it. Thanks everyone!!
