I did W4D1 yesterday. I should have done it Tuesday but I was feeling really tired and I cut the bottom of my foot so it hurt to walk on it. I was surprised how well it went! I hope W4D2 goes just as well.

I complete Wk4 Day 1 today! And I have to say this is the first time I've run and felt really, really good after. I even think I could have done another little 3 minute run. Going into it, I was really nervous! The 3 minute runs last week were really pretty hard.

Today, I went into each run independently. I picked a realistic start pace. Halfway through I tried to increase it a bit. And then in the last 30 seconds, I tried to run a little faster. It went really well!!! I couldn't even believe it! And even though I was in my max heart rate zone, I wasn't completely maxed out and feeling breathless. I'm looking forward to the challenge of day 2!

I did W3D3 today. I should have had it done Friday, but I spent 5 hours walking around the zoo with my kids, so I wasn't really feeling the need to jog afterwards!

I will do W4D1 Tuesday. I'm a little freaked out by the 5 minute jogs! A week ago I never thought I would be able do the 3 minute jogs though and I made it through every single one.

To anyone that is nervous about W5 and the dreaded 20 minute run... I repeated 2 days of W4 because I was afraid of failing the following week. Well, I wish I hadn't. This program really works and even if you don't believe it you are ready to move on and conquer that run! It is definitely more of a mental challenge. I would recommend to anyone with doubts, go on to week 5 and do the first 2 runs. Then attempt the 3rd. You can do it. Then, if needed repeat week 5. You will feel such success when the 20 min run is over! Such a boost! Good luck

I bet being sick or hurt can totally throw you off your game plan physically and mentally. I have been lucky so far to avoid both. I hope you are able to get back on track soon without losing much ground.

Well peeps, looks like I have no clue when I’m getting back into running. I’ve been sick since Christmas eve, and now at this point, I feel like I’ll have to go back to the beginning when I finally do restart. What a pain in the ass.

I did week 4 day 1 today. I have been sick for 2 weeks...didn't exercise at all last week. I was surprised that I made it through the 5 min runs! I don't run very fast though, hopefully I can improve my speed at some point. I have never been a runner and decided to try this at age 53...I really like it so far!

Here I am in week four, didn't' get to formally do a run last week but stayed busy and active so today wasnt' as bad as I thought it would be.
I did W4D1 on the beach so I usually turn around at the halfway mark. After talking with my Personal Trainer the other day (-here is the problem, I can go forever at the same pace but can't seem to pick up speed. My pace for a 5k isn't very different from my half marathon and I could probably just keep going like the Energizer Bunny and do a whole dang marathon at the same pace, BUT NOT FASTER, argh)I added some HIIT. I did the C25k W4D1 and extended from 31.5 minutes to 45+. I warmed up, did the intervals, cooled down. Then I did ten sets of 30 seconds as fast as I could go alternation with 30 seconds of really slow recovery. Much easier to do on land, on a treadmill, you just get started at one speed and you have to switch, and repeat and repeat.
So I plan on doing more of this and hope it works.
So all in all, W4D1 wasn't so bad. On to day 2!

I finished D2 last night, and I was seriously wondering if I'd be able to move on to Week 5 next week by the end. It was tough!

I'll see what happens after D3, but I do know this: I've been frightened of the next longest running time every single week, and I've made it this far. So maybe I'm closer to being able to run 20 minutes at a time than I think!

Great question, GYPSY! I wondered the same thing. I have D3 to run today and I guess I will know better after I finish it. D1 was really hard! D2 was much better! I'm hoping today's run will be better yet. I'm nervous about the 20 minute run next week too. I think I can do it!

After finishing W4D3 last Friday I decided to repeat it this week as well. I just didn't feel strong by the end and quite honestly the thought of W5D3 and the 20 minute run scares me! So, W4D4 completed. Felt like a step backwards but I realize this program is meant to be taken at your own pace. Heck, a month ago I couldn't run 5 minutes none stop. Now I can : ) How does everyone else feel at the end of W4? Do you feel ready to move on?

I finished D1 but the 5 minute runs were killers! I could have sworn someone filled my legs with cement on the second one! Yikes! Five minutes felt like a half hour! I did finish the second 5 strong but it took a LOT of extra effort. I'm hoping the next 2 runs will feel a bit better.

Good job! I am actually doing the 5K101 so we run 4 minutes at a time then rest for 1 with five intervals. Restarted this week and was able to finish the runs all through-so will stick with week 4, and add hills. emoticon

I also use the NHS C25K program. The music is ok, upbeat, but I would rather run to my own music. However, I do really like the British voice so that helps. The tips she gives are great and a good distraction. It helps to not have to watch the clock. She tells me when to walk and when to run. ALthough, sometimes I think she adds a little time LOL

Week 4 done!!! Day 3 I started the incline at 3% and gradually lowered it over the course of the session. I kept the speeds (3.5mph walk, 5.5mph run) steady, even though there were times that I wanted to go slower. But actually things were feeling ok even at the end of the last run.

I will move on to week 5 tomorrow, and if it is too hard to do 5 minute runs with less break, then return to week 4 for a repeat. This past week I have felt all sorts of aches (calfs, hips, lower back), and don't want to injure myself by pushing forward when I am not ready.

On the other hand, I am on track to finish this program at New Year!

W4D3 done, but I really had to push to get through it. Think I'm going to repeat this week. Got through all the days, but don't feel like I'm ready to move up to week 5 and the 20 minute run. And I figure a little extra training can't hurt.

Have a great week everyone!

I must be crazy. It was 33F outside, we're in the mountains, the Thanksgiving dinner was cooking, and I went and did W4D1!!!

Wore more clothes today, which helped some with the temperature, but I felt much more ungainly. And those hills!!!! Sometimes it felt like I was running in place. But I somehow made it.

I'm sure once I get back on the treadmill, it will feel a lot easier than these hills, but I am a little glad for the chance to challenge myself. For my next session, I need to figure out a place to go where the runs aren't always on the uphills....

I did w4d1 yesterday. It didn't kill me but I too was a flaming tomato head! I felt strong and good afterward. It was hard, but I did it. I think a lot of it is mental.
I'm using the NHS couch to 5K podcast and it really helps me to have a friendly english trainer encouraging me with music. She throws in tips too.

It's nice to know others are working this program too.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Cincy! I totally agree. I had to redo week 4 and 5 the first time around too (I completed the whole thing about two years ago). I also find it easier to just run the longer time than doing the intervals. But if it makes me stronger...

Way to go Chelles_Bells!!!!! Having been as far as week 6 before, I really think weeks 3 and 4 were harder. The intervals aren't quite long enough for me to feel comfortable with my stride and breathing. Just when I get a rhythm going, the time is up. It's an important exercise as part of the training but it does sometimes seem easier to go for 10 minutes than 3.

I cannot make myself be thin today, but I CAN be healthier by making a few smart choices. I focus on what needs to be done today and tomorrow takes care of itself.

After a disastrous first go at W4, I finally got it in and done. After failing big time on Saturday, I decided to do a "free run" on Sunday to see how long or far I could run without stopping. I made it to 15 minutes! When I got on the treadmill last night to try W4D1 over again, I just kept telling myself that if I could run 15 minutes straight, then I certainly could run 3 and 5 minute intervals!

It took me a week to get to it but I finally completed day 3. I must be doing something right, though, because I was able to run quite a bit longer at the end than the 5 minutes scheduled. I guess I learned something the first time through the program because this second time is going smoothly.

The second go-round of week four has been much more comfortable. I'm working, but not gasping and exhausted by the end. Tomorrow is D3, and unless something goes horribly wrong, move on to week 5 from there.
