Week 4, day 5 done!!! I did an extra 2 days because I am scared to move one. I wanted to feel confident on the second 5 minute jog. I made it through today!! Woo Hoo.

After I was done, I still have a bit of energy left so I did 3 one minute sprints. (Sprints for me are 5mph since i jog at 4.5)

I feel ready to conquer week 5.

Starting Week 4 today. Pretty scared about this week but terrified of next week! It's going to be crazy!

Back to SP to lose 30+ pounds so I can try for a baby! Ready to get fit and healthy and stay that way this time.

W4D2...Done! Felt MUCH easier than W4D1 but my left shin was hurting pretty bad. I don't know if I should have kept running on it but I didn't want to not finish D2. On to W4D3 on Wednesday!

Completed W4D1 on Saturday. I felt a little sluggish and slower than usual but steady. Got through the whole thing and still had energy so I got a little upper body strength training in too. Moving on to W4D2 after work today!

Two week 4 days down, one to go...

I think I need to warm-up and stretch more... so I'm going to try that on Saturday. I'm feeling pretty good about this. Even though my legs are sore, the only hurty part is my right achilles now... and I've been shown a few new stretches to hopefully help with that.

So I had all intentions of repeating W4 as I was really struggling doing the last 5 minute run.
I decided to change things up a bit today, instead of doing alternate 3 and 5 min run, I chose to do 3:5:5:3. I was able to do the 3:5:5 and then thought why not go for the last 5min. and guess what? I did it! So was only short 2 minutes for the week 5 D1 so I gave myself a 2 min. walk break and then ran for 2 more min. I really surprised myself, it felt so good! I couldn't even get a hug or a kiss from my hubby and biggest supporter afterwards. I was too sweaty for him and I have a sore throat,... had to settle for a high-5. emoticon

IHRIWUEN, I have the same sort of problems. I feel like my heart and lungs could go alot faster and longer but my legs is where I get aches and tiredness. I guess it's just all the weight they carry and the forces put on them when I run. Hopefully I'll continue to get lighter and they will get stronger.

Well, I did it.

Halfway through the last 5 minute run, my body just sort of slowed down to walking without asking me first, but I got myself to pick back up and run after a few seconds. That was a very odd feeling. I was sure throughout most of the session that I wouldn't finish, but I did, and now my legs feel like lead, and I'm very glad I did it.

That's one thing that confuses me some. I have more trouble from my legs hurting while I'm running, and feeling really heavy, than I do from being winded or having my heart go thumpity thump. Any ideas on that? It seems strange to me.

COLE771, just in the past maybe 2-3 weeks I have noticed heel pain in my rt. foot after I run or when I wake up the next morning. I do TONS of stretching but it definitely hurts in the mornings. I don't notice while I run though. I think it might be plantar fascitis but I'm not sure. What's going on with yours and what helps/hurts it? I've NEVER had it before, but I guess with all the running it may have started something. Any thoughts on that??

Well, I finished week 4 Day 3 on Saturday. I still have to add a 30 sec break in the middle of that last 5 minute run. Looking ahead to week 5 I see that 8 minute run looming, so I guess I better do week 4 another week. I'm right with you here LRIVARD. That 2nd run still gets me too. I usually do my run later after dinner around 7-8pm so I try to eat a light dinner, but bigger mid-day lunch.

Starting week 4 tomorrow.... finished week 3 yesterday. I have to say, I'm a bit scared, but I was scared of week 3 too, and I got through it. I'm actually finding that Walking at the speed the podcast has is harder than jogging it. Maybe less walking will help my calves?

LRIVARD I finished W4D3 today. I did good all week and didn't have to stop. I will say that I did have to stretch ALOT!!! Day 1 I stretched after the 5 minute warm-up and of course before I started. I stretched in between jogs also, like if it was an 1/8 or 1/4 mile walk I would stretch in the middle. I stretched alot on Day 2 as well and on that day I really had alot of tightness in my shins and had to stretch them out. I didn't have to stop mid runs or anything but I don't know how you would consider what I was doing w/ the stretching mid way in the walks......I feel that I did really well, I just feel like I had to stretch to keep from hurting myself. I was sore all week in parts that hadn't hurt in all the weeks previous! As for what I eat before I run, I ate today around 2-3 and ended up running about 4-4:30 and I had eaten MEXICAN!! Yikes, all I wanted to do was burp, not pleasant! Normally I run in the mornings and it usually is about 1-2 hours since I ate before I run. I usually have egg whites, 1 slice of sprouted bread toast and either an apple or banana,if I don't have eggs I eat a PB sandwich(no jelly) and of course no toast. You can do it, I know you'll be fine! I think this week is just a really building week for your muscles (or it was mine) and I was shocked I made it through, I thought I might not and may need to repeat. I will tell you I'm going to give week 5 a try and if I can't do it I am going to repeast week 4.

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, as I'm still learning my way around sparkpeople, but I figured I'd give it a shot. What do people eat before they run? I get up at 7a.m. for my workouts and I'm wondering if that may play a part in way I can't complete the last 5 minute run. I've just run out of fuel by then. The last time I eat is at dinner the night before and I don't eat again until after I work out. So... any suggestions? I know I don't want to eat tonnes or it will weigh me down, but I'm starting to realize I might need some sort of energy boost now that I'm doing more than just walking. If there aren't any suggestions could someone let me know where I might find some on sparkpeople, Thanks.

I completed W4 D3 today, but still had to split the last 5 min. run into 3min run: 1 min walk:2 min.run Having looked ahead at week 5 and there only being 5 min. run, i think I'm going to stick with W4 for another couple of days. Lilosbornefarm - how did you make out on D3?

I am glad no one was around to hear me or they would thought I was a crazy person talking to myself. LOL. So, I was supposed to start W4 on Monday, but was having upset stomach and exhaustion, so thought I might have had a touch of a bug. I have rested, and today did a yoga workout to ease back into things. I'm gonna do W3 again to get my stamina back up, then will move into w4. No sense in pushing forward and setting myself up for failure or burn out...like so many of you have so wisely decided! Way to go!

Thank you GILBYII and LRIVARD, your comments make me feel much better. You are so right, I am running my OWN race and jogging whether it is at my snail's pace or not is still jogging to me. Something I couldn't get through 30-60 seconds of several weeks ago and now jogging all my minutes on W4 D1 and D2. Great job today LRIVARD on W4D2, looks like we are on the same days! That is fantastic that you did it, it's not about how fast or how long we are running but anything more than the week before is so much improvement, I am so proud of you and everyone doing this program. We have so much in ourselves that we just have to dig out! Keep running and God Bless, good luck to all my fluffy running friends!

LILOSBORNEFARM - Your pace compared to others has nothing to do with whether you count it as running? It might be a jog to some, but if you are faster than your own walk, I'd count it! I was telling a friend that I wasn't able to complete all the running on W4D1 and his reply to me was "to make sure you always RUN YOUR OWN RACE. When you feel yourself comparing... simply tell yourself to run your own race. Your race is the one you'll stick with!" I decided that he was right. Even though, I didn't complete all the running minutes required, I still ran! (and I don't run fast either!) I couldn't have said that a few weeks ago!

Today I ran W4D2 and this time I ran all the minutes! The last 5 minutes, I broke into 3 min run:1 min walk: 2 min run, but I did it! emoticon

LILOSBORNEFARM: I wouldn't concern yourself with those "speed walkers". I only have run on the treadmill, but last night there was a guy next to me who was running at 6.1... I only run at 4.1. But his legs were twice as long as mine so he had a bigger stride and needed to run faster. I wouldn't worry too much about speed right now. I look at it as I will get faster as more weight comes off & I get more fit.

Did W4 D2 last night. Actually made it through the 1st 3 & 5 min runs; 2nd 3 min run & only took 30 sec. break during 2nd 5 min run. I am so proud of myself. I didn't think I could get through it but I did. Have to see how day 3 goes before I decide if I want to go on to week 5. I think I may repeat before I go on. I'm not confident yet I can handle more.

Tonight I think I ate too much right before the run, but it was that Barilla PLUS pasta, the water had to boil, I had to cook my dry 2oz then the family, blah blah and wolf it down and run out the door.
Next time I will just eat SOME and label the rest of the food "mom's portioned food DON"T TOUCH!"

Anyhow, I got through W4D3! I am surprised! I pushed for faster today, it was windy..... so no wonder the last run was sheer will and tough.

We are going from sea level to 4,000 feet for a weekend with my in-laws in Nevada... so I think I will be repeating W4D3 up there, then Monday night move to week 5.

Hi everyone;

I did W4D1 today.... i stayed on week 3 an extra week and found that today was bearable because of it.
It wasn't until the last 5 minute run that I was having a bit of trouble, but I made it! So, I am all for staying on a week longer if you don't really feel like you're confident to go on.
I am also thinking that what you eat prior to your run makes a difference, too. Anyone else feel that way? What do you eat?

Keep on truckin y'all!

So this is week 4 for me. I do D2 tomorrow. Just wondering about if I should repeat or not?? I did all of the running that I was supposed to and completed it. I actually did it by distance rather than time this week. I had been only doing time but I figured since I was such a slow runner I should try the distance to make sure I was getting it all. That being said, I am really slow! I haven't been running on the treadmill for 2 weeks b/c I get bored and I feel bad if I adjust the speed even a tenth. I am running on an indoor track and I can adjust as needed and not so bored! But I'm wondering if b/c I'm so slow if I should repeat it? I mean my jog is barely faster than those "speed" walkers on the track. Does that mean I'm not really doing it? I felt really worked on D1 but I did it all and am very excited about that, I'm just super slow. What do you think? Sorry this was so long!

Decided to stick it out and try day 2 today instead of going back to week 3. I made it through and only walked an extra 30 seconds between the 2nd 3 mile and 5 mile jog, I knew if I didn't take a little bit more time to recover I might not make it. May have to stay here for a little extra time but at least I made it today! emoticon

Looks like I'm in the same boat as others on the board. Did W1 D1 last night. Was able to run the first 3 min. did 4 1/2 min of the 5 min run; ran the 2nd 3 mins. but only 2 1/2 of the 2nd 5 min run. The 2nd 5 min run one did me in. Think I'll be staying on week 4 for another week too. Why is there such a big jump from 3 to 5 minutes runs this week? Although I'm proud of myself I did the two 3 min runs. I couldn't even do that a couple weeks ago.

OK I did W4D2 outside. This is the first time running/walking outside. It is way different then a treadmill and it is harder even on a flat surface. I had a hard time finishing the first 5 minute run and on the second 5 minute I think I ran about 3 of it and then returned to walking. I feel like I let myself down but I really never thought I would get this far. I parked my car at the gym and ran a mile down and then back. I treated myself to tanning for 10 minutes once I got back to the gym. Oh and I shared about sparkpeople.com with an employee of Golds. I think she may be the manager and she isn't skinny either! She is going to check it out and would like to be able to share the resource with others that are interested. It felt good to spread the Spark!!

So I was supposed to complete W4D1 today and in the end the 5 min. run did me in. So today's run was a kind of limbo between W3 and W4. I ended up with intervals of 3min run/ 90 sec walk and then a 4 min run at the end. It worked out that I was 3 min. short on the running compared to the planned W4D1, so having figured that out, I'm hoping to tackle the W4 schedule again. The 3 min run was definitely easier to do, which is encouraging to feel that improvement.

1st day on week 4 and think maybe I need to stay on week 3 another week. I was able to do the first 3 min and 5 min jog but not the second of either. I did get in 1.68 miles in 25 minutes but not able to run the long periods yet. Will try again next week after another week of week 3.

So i've decided to stick with wk 4 for a couple of weeks...i think i've done it twice now. i just feel like its increasing my endurance really well, and i dont want to move on if i'm still not comfortable with it. and i havent been able to go as regularly as i'd like to, so my endurance isnt increasing as i'd like. oh well. i think one more day of wk 4 and then on to week 5!! :)

and LJONES23, that first interval gets me every time too! i wonder if i'm not walking briskly enough. haha.

Finished W4 today and it went well again. That first 3 min. interval gets me every time, but once I get through that I am fine. I'm going to keep up my routine of not looking at the interval increase before starting W5 so I don't freak myself out. I'll just wait and see what the podcast says.

I did w4d1 today. I was laso really nervous to start, but so proud of myself for doing it. I took it very slow, but it was fine. Legs were tired, but breathing was good. The first run is always hardest for me. By the end, I am usually doing OK.

Yea!!!!

I finished week 4 day 1 today. My thighs are throbbing and I am getting shooting pains in my left thigh and once in a while. Is this normal? Last 5 minute run was hard but 3 minutes didn't seem as long.

I was totally convinced I'd end up doing week 3 over again, but reading this thread has me hyped up for tomorrow to go on to week 4...if I can't do it, I'll go back to 3, but I am going to give it my all....very, VERY nervous though

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.

I completed Week 4 Day 1 today! I'm always nervous about starting a new week, but this week had me seriously considering repeating a week. I did it though, and I couldn't be more proud of myself!! Before this, the most I've ever run straight through was for 3 minutes. Today I ran for 5 minutes straight...TWICE. Major accomplishment in my book. I am getting addicted to this whole running thing too. ^_^
