Attempted Week 4 today. After not running consistently over the past month, it was horrible. Only able to run 1 minute. So I will try it again this weekend. I *KNOW* I can do it..heck I did it before...I just need the strength to do it!

Yesterday I did W4D1 and tomorrow I will do W4D2. So far I'm surprised and pleased at how the C25k plan hasn't been as difficult as I feared.

I was more worried starting W4 because the total run time was almost doubled compared to the first three weeks. I'm very worried in general about the whole running thing because I don't want to push myself too far too quickly and end up injuring myself. I guess I just need to put a little more faith in the C25k program and I need to give my body a little more credit.
Good luck to everyone else currently running W4! emoticon

I was pretty winded after both 5 mins and that darn 2nd 3 min KICKS my butt!! I think I need more the 90 sec. between the 2 LOL!! So All in all, Glad it's over. Moving on to day 3 on Friday! Fingers crossed it's easier LOL

Keep up the great work girls!! Anyone else beside Trish and I sign up their first 5K yet??? Share details!!

I am so proud of all of you on our team! You are all pushing and moving forward despite the difficulty, AWESOME JOB!

Finished W4D2 today, got through ok. I switched the order, did 5/3/5/3 instead of 3/5/3/5. I wanted to get the biggies over with first!

Keep pushing team, we are making great progress!

I'm pretty proud of myself right now - I completed W4D1 - and it was tough! My legs and gluts were already super sore from class yesterday but the run helped to loosen them up. First 3 min - cake at 4.5. First 5 min - made it through, but it was long - held on for about 15 sec X 2 but didn't support weight. Second 3 min - hard - dropped down to 4.2. Walked an extra 30 sec before starting the last 5 min - thought I'd die but I didn't. Again a couple of holds on but upped the speed to 4.4 - 4.5 - 4.6 and made it. Sweatiest I've ever been in 30 minutes!

Did W4D1 yesterday, today is my rest day. It was difficult but I did it. Made it through without altering my speed. The last little bit of the last 5 minutes was hard...I kept watching the clock which made it worse...lol. On to Day 2!!

Week 4, Day 3 finished! I actually ran 7 minutes for my last interval! Feels great. Wish my shin splints would go away, though!! I get worried having them all the time, but I have read all the literature about what to do to prevent them and did all the right things and still got them, so what the hell. I'm just hoping with time my muscles will get stronger and they will stop hurting.

I did week 4 day 1 today!!! I didn't think I would. First I talked myself into doing a cardio class instead, only to get to the gym to see a sign saying all fitness classes were cancelled today. I then saw that the treadmills were full - oh well, I'd have to do some other cardio. But by the time I changed there was one machine free. OK - I can still do week three, I thought. Then I turned on my ipod and there was no week 3 there. So it was week 4 for me and I did do it. It was hard. I slowed down my pace considerably so I could do it all - but I did it!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

FInished Week 4 Day 1 last night! Glad to have gotten through it. I walked at 3.2-3.3 and ran at 4.5-4.6. The first 3 mintue run was nothing. I didn't think the first 5 mintue one was all that bad either, I just kept telling myself the whole time, Kym, do you SEE yourself RUNNING??!! Amazing. I had a hard time with the 2nd 3 minute, and actually had to stop with about 45 sec left. Not sure what was up with that. The 2nd 5 mintue kicked my butt too. Mind over matter right trish?? LOL About 1/2 way though, I turned the speed down from 4.5 to 4.1 and then noticed that it was easier to run at 4.5 for me then walk really fast, so right back up I went! When he told me only 60 sec. left, I was SO thrilled and ran at 4.8-4.9 to push through! Felt great! I am glad Day 1 is over. I know Day 2 is always the hardest for me, so we'll see what tomorrow night brings!

Keep up the great work everyone, we can do this!

Ok, W4D1 done! Did not get enough sleep last night, was just exhausted, but ran anyway. It was hard but not impossible. Glad it's done, let's finish off this week with a bang!

I did W4D1 this morning and it was a little challenging. I didn't do anything last week because my doctor told me to take it easy for a week so I'm glad I was able to do W4D1 today. Right back on it :)

I finished day 1!!!!!! Here is my rundown.
I walked at 3.0 and ran at 4.0
The first 3 minute interval was a breeze! I guess Week 3 worked! I was definitely ready for the 5 minute run after the cool down. I only had to push through the final 30 seconds or so. The second 3 minute run was a bit harder, but still wasn't ready for it to end. Then during the last 5 minute run it was complete mind over matter. I kept repeating to myself "you can do it" "you haven't given up yet" "what's 90 seconds, it's nothing" and then I counted backwards in my head the last 60 seconds....but I finished.

I feel soo proud, as I always do after Day 1 of any week..who would have thought!!

Wow PrincssTrish! I have not signed up for one yet, but a runner friend at work has agreed to run a 5k with me and she's going to find us one.

I am doing the minutes thing too, distance is too much pressure just now :)

Keep up the good work! See you at the 9-week finish line!

hey IAMTHEHI-C,

What is your pre-run snack? It kinda sounds like you are running out of fuel.

(either that or you need fresh tunes or a running buddy who is just enough faster to be annoying ;-)

why yes! it does say _or_

now I just need to figure out the markings on the track. It's clear lane 8 is much longer than lane 1, but where the halfway point on 8 is confuses me.

I do think I am getting to the point where I could ask the cross country coach I know for some pointers - I will have to ask his wife if his schedule has quieted down at all.

Zoe, believe me, not very many people can do the 1/2 mile in 5 minutes when we are all beginners doing the C25K. I think the program is an either/or kind of thing. Like... either run 1/2 mile OR 5 minutes... however you want to do it... the main thing is to gradually build up your running so you don't get injured, not to actually have to run 1/2 mile in 5 minutes! Welcome to the group!

I reviewed the workout and week 4 seemed like where I was at.
uhhmmm aside from the pace!! meek!

one lap at 3 minutes with only a 90 second walk? err no.

plus I was having gear issues.

so I only got a 1/4 mile, a 1/2 mile, and 1/4 mile
but not that last 1/2 mile as it was time to get my daughter for swimming.

I am proud I did them "at pace" or close to pace. It was a push to do so much speed training.

I need to be better about my pre-run snack.

I need to figure out things with my watch (over all workout AND each lap... I think it can do that.)

okay but mostly? I think I am going to be at W4D1 for a while!

-Zoe, who hopes she put this in the right place.

I always stretch after my warm up, and after the running. I have flat feet and this causes the inside of my shin to have undue stress on it. It has not gotten worse since the first week, and I've been icing. Got orthotics for my shoes and they have helped a lot.

I finished week 4 day 1! It was challenging but I didn't feel like I needed to stop at any point. I have big old grin on my face, this program is really working!

I start week 4 today. I'm a little scared but I know I can run 5 minutes because I did it for my last interval of week 3! I hope I don't injure myself. I am barely keeping the shin splints at bay. Crossing my fingers!

I'm feeling kind of stuck with week four - I can usually do the first two running intervals fine, but by the time the 2nd two come around I'm fading. I've done it twice by increasing the break after the second 3 minute run by a minute (and decreasing the last run by 1 minute) and then I can finish, but it's frustrating. I'm planning on repeating this week and finishing the whole week properly is what I'm focusing on as my goal for now.

Just started Week 4. 5 minutes of jogging seemed scary to me, but it felt great!

The only issue I'm having with this training is that I'm developing some calf tightness/soreness. After I run, it starts and then proceeds through the next day.

I know I get enough potassium, and I drink tons of water. Perhaps I'm not stretching enough...

Any advice?

I started Week 4 2 weeks ago, but after an injury from a fall on the ice, a knee injury and a cold which triggered my asthma, I decided to restart week 4 today. It was not too bad, but I guess I exercised too soon after eating dinner because I got horrific cramps that prevented me from finishing the last 5 minute interval. I did walk it though, so I still got 30 minutes of cardio in, 300 cals burned and 2 miles gone.

Week 4D2 on Thursday...in the AM BEFORE I eat emoticon

I love reading about every one progressing so well. It's very encouraging. :)

W4D1 done! I tell you, I was really worried about this one. But I did it!!!!! I'll be able to run a mile soon. It's been a goal for over a year now and I think I'll finally reach it now. Yeah!

W4D1 done! and WOW! what a difference from week 3... I didn't think I would make it through it, but, I did... hopefully Day 2 will be a little easier... this was the first time I've done any of the sessions on a treadmill, so I don't know if that made any difference or not...
