My fellow Sparklers! I need help! I have got sore knees! Do I have to take Advil or will Tylenol work just as well? I generally try to avoid Advil because I have high blood pressure, however at this point I will take whatever I need to, because OW!

I need help! I took one of the SPARKs quizess on strength training and it said to be careful not to do too much cardio on the days that you strength train because you will erase everything you do that day. So....how much cardio is too much? Can I walk three miles in the morning and two in the evening or is that too much. I certainly do not want to erase what I've already done!

I am tired of losing and regaining the same 3 pounds - I need to break this plateau. Can WATP really help you lose weight if you can only do it 2 or 3 times a week?

Hi Team! I'm getting back online after being off for about a week. Last Tuesday we had a couple of Tornadoes come through town and knocked out the power to the whole town of 10000. I didn't get electricity back on until Thursday at Midnight. I was awaken by the bright lights. I haven't eaten like I should have with no power. We have eaten junk food. But hopefully with a little motivation as my clothes are starting to fit tight. I will start going in the right direction. I would like to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day and be safe when going out.

I am so frustrated and irritated. I have been stuck in the mid 180's for the past 2 months. I know that it is because I am not exercising as much (it is HOT!) and I am trying to figure out what I can do to get back in the game. I WAS walking every morning for at least 2miles before work, then I would walk an additional mile during my break at work and then 2 or 3 times a week I would do an aqua aerobics class and strength training. I am still doing to aqua aerobics class and strength training but it has gotten so hot here that I can't walk during work.

I AM going to get up and do WATP DVDs in the morning to replace my walking outside - I have to commit to doing this EVERY DAY! emoticon

Blessed: I would use the SP tracker. I know someone who used a watch and it didn't track kicks. Also, your watch may not track the firm band which increases your burn.
Another thought is that your watch may need to be reset for stride.
In either case, keep walking and have a Sparky Day!

Hello. I would love to hear some opinions on something. I just did 3 miles of the Leslie Walk it off and Tone it up DVD with the green firm band. My trackers says I burned app. 350 calories. (I don't remember exactly). However, my watch that keeps track of calories burned says 160. That is quite a discrepancy. What is more accurate?

Thank you for all of the input!!

I like to walk outside, on good weather days, I can walk a mile and a half and still have time to eat my lunch. I have a coworker friend that wants us to walk together at lunch but she walks too slow. I am trying to loose weight and need to walk faster than just a casual walk.
I am walking at home with WATP DVD's but i feel I don't do any good if i just mosey[sp] like my friend. One block of my walk is uphill and then down on the way back. What would you do? Tell her no because she can't keep up with me or walk slow with her?

I've seen on my fitness tracker that WATP is now considered low impact aerobics. I was tracking on there for awhile, but then was encouraged to join my city's mileage tracker. Does anyone know if it is possible to track both aerobics and miles? I do at least one Leslie walk a day so I rack up the miles each week, but not the calories if using the mileage tracker.

Thanks for the suggestion. What I meant to say is that I forgot how to synchronise the VCR to the Direct TV remote so that they work together.

I have a couple WATP VCR tapes that I have been doing. Last week the power company was doing some maintenance and shut the power off for a couple of hours. My problem is now my VCR won't work. I have Direct TV and I can't get it to connect with anything. My DVD player is fine and I can get that to work. Any suggestions to get the VCR working again?

Thanks Horacestine. Well I've been doing WATP 3 mile walks each day for 7 days of my 21 day challenge and I feel great. I'm not sure if my thighs are slimmer, but I' feel lighter like I've lost inches all over my body. 14 more days to go. Yeah me! Thanks again for your advice. :)

It is normal to bulk up at first. You are putting muscle where there was once fat. Keep going and you will see your thighs start to slim down.also do some lunges during your normal day. They work the whole lower body like lifting weights. Been there done that. Good luck.

HI everyone. I'm new. I am on day 5 of doing 10-15 mins a day. It's hard. I am at an all time high weight. I was an exercise instructor and strong proponent of exercise and several things including health problems lead me to put on a HUGE amt of weight and get totally sedentary (both feed right into each other!) I still teach water yoga, more stretchy therapy stuff than cardio. I feel good about moving even just a little bit this week but am so unaccustomed to moving around in this really large body and it's just uncomfortable and embarassing to me at times even though I'm ALONE in my house exercising! LOL. Anyhow, I need to sort of get over this and eventually not be embarassed to go out in public. :) I'm looking to all of you for friendship and support. I keep telling myself if ten minutes a day is all I can do it's my BEST and I'm doing it! And that's excellent! Thanks for listening. Hugs!

@Norastatler....Thanks for replying. If you did it once you can do it again. I know easier said then done. The only way I motivate myself is to read weight loss success stories. I guess it proves to me that it can be done and that I just have to keep moving. I know you can do it.

If you don't mind me asking how did you do it? Did you walk every day? And what did you eat?

Thanks

Princess

WATP can and does work...I lost 90 pounds on it, but I've been recovering from a leg surgery and now I have a torn ligament in my knee which they want to do surgery on, so I can't walk as much as I did, but I can still do a little...I'm having a problem remotivating, but I'm going to try little baby steps to get back into it.

I would like to do the WATP dvd's, but I'm not sure if it will work for me. Some months ago I did the WATP for 2 weeks thinking it would help me slim my thunder thighs and hips, but instead it seemed to bulk my thighs up. So what I need to know is if anybody has lost inches/fat off their thighs by doing this WATP? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!....

How frustrating! The scale can be our best friend or worst enemy. It may be a temporary gain due to water retention, i.e. sodium intake, over the counter meds, etc. Try increasing water intake to 2 1/2 litres over the next few days, and watch sodium intake. If you are retaining water, apple cider vinegar is a great natural diuretic that can be used as a salad dressing. Also keep in mind that weight is just a small part of the equation. You are losing inches, toning, and decreasing your risk of certain diseases. You are doing a great job! Give your body a chance to adjust. The scale will eventually reflect all your hard work! emoticon

I am so upset!!! I worked hard last week... I am in week 2 of doing strength training... I rode my bike, not in the cemetery like I always do using the same route but going road biking and going through the park.. yesterday I went over 15000 steps! I am drinking my water doing my calories faithfully...I weighed in this morning and had gained FOUR pounds!!!

Now my knees and hips ached when I went to bed last night the knees were actually cold to the touch so I think they were swollen but come on 4 pounds??? Do you know how hard it is for me not to get on my bike and work to exhaustion? Today is my day off and I will give my body that but please tell me am I nuts for being so upset??

Hugs Renee

I think when we get to the point where we are having a hard time getting our work outs in we need to just MOVE it doesn't need to be a structured workout we just need to stretch or take a few extra steps and continue to do that until we either have the time or motivation to workout. This is a work in progress if we were all perfect at it we wouldn't need a program like spark people... Keep you chin up and know this will pass if you really want it too.. I see this thread is over a month old I surely hope you have gotten back to your workouts by now and if not I hope this popping up in your e-mail box with give you some encouragement.

Just make a commitment to do things as right as possible as much as you can

Girlfriend let me tell you the tapes do work. The scale might not show it right away but your bdy will. I'm 57 and like you I couldn't do it all the way through the first time. But once your body gets used to it it gets better. And remember she always tells you if you get tired or it gets too difficult in the moves just go back to regular walking to the beat till you get stronger.

Hi, I just joined and need all the help I can get. I am 55, going to be 56 next month and need to lose 41 pounds to get to my ideal weight. I am a medical transcriptionist and work at home unless they need me to come in to cover someone for vacations. Anyway, I have some of Leslie's tapes and am going to try to do at least 1 or 2 miles a day until I get into it, I tried the 3 miles and couldn't get through it so I will just take my time and build up to it. I just wonder if I am just too old to lose 41 pounds? Will Leslie's tapes help me lose it? Even if not I will do it because I need to get my heart and lungs into shape and keep my cholesterol down. Hope to make some friends while I am here too.

How do you count the WATP workouts in your fitness/exercise tracker? I did the Day 4 workout on the 5 Day Slim Down DVD, plus the warm up and cool down. I don't know how to log it correctly in my tracker. Is it a straight 30 minute cardio session? Is it a combination of cardio and strength training? I don't want to overstate the exercise I've been doing, but at the same time I am busting my a** and I don't want to *understate* it, either.

Help, please!

It's just the abbreviation for "Walk Away the Pounds" I just joined this team as well and I was stumped too. I finally figured it out. Walking inside does sound like it would be boring but it really isn't. It isn't just walking, you use alot of muscle and it is a great workout, you can also add weights to your walk. I started doing Leslie's videos because all of my friends always make excuses as to why they can't go walking (they're lazy) so try it, you'll like it. emoticon

Mel:

I know where you are coming from. I "re-joined" myself as I had back, hip and knee problems pop up and sidelined me for weeks. I gained all the weight I lost plus 8 more to make it worst.

I am getting back on track. I am back on SP since 11/5/09 and refuse to stop working towards my goal. Need to pop Leslie's DVD in tonight after work and school and get to sweating.

I don't know if I need help right this moment, but...I'm new to the team (well, "re"-new - when I joined a long time ago, I didn't really participate as I should have), and have found I regained ALL the 35 pounds I'd lost last year - plus! - and have discovered that due to some health problems that have developed for me, I can't work out the way I used to. (That, and my feeling sorry for myself and going full-on bonkers about eating junk food.)

Anyhow, I've used Leslie Sansone's tapes off and on for years - when I quit smoking years ago, using her and Tae-Bo helped me to quit PLUS lose 50+ pounds, to boot! - and I thought, this might be a reasonable way to again get on the healthy bandwagon. I know I won't lose the weight as quickly as I did before when I was able to work out "harder"; however, the most important thing isn't how fast, it's just doing it. Which has been my major problem the last five or six months, once I found out I could work out reasonably comfortably, again.

Anyhow, enough of my diatribe - I've been perusing the group, wanted to say hi, and like the idea that this thread is here, for those of us who sometimes (all right, frequently of late) need a gentle shove in the right direction. Thanks for being here, and good luck to all! : )
