Good Morning all,

Just read back through all the posts from the last couple of days. School starting and friends staying over seems like we live in a very scary place sometimes. All we can do as individuals is protect those we love. So sorry Paul and Nikki that these awful things happen.

Junie, I went and did the female check this week also, the worst 15 minutes of my year. I like you have a very difficult time finding someone who can properly draw blood from my arm. I am a very hard draw and just hate it! But like you have thyroid issues so I must let them stick me! Hate, Hate~

Didn't do well with the eating today. We had people over and food everywhere, so it was a few bites here and a few bites there till I'd eaten way too much. I hate feeling like I'm not in control of my eating.

How did everyone do this first week?

Ehhh I could have done better. I think I need to track but hate tracking. I did a better job getting water in.

What are you proud of?
This is a great one for me today. May be ***TMI *** ---
I went to the Dr. today. I hate going, and hate having blood work done. Diagnosed with under active thyroid many years ago. At first I was great with staying on top of it, felt like I had so much more energy, and just felt better in general. I however gave the meds up, because, blood work had to be done every three months. I hate it, they never can get me. I had one time that they tried 8 different sticks!!! I freak out know whenever they draw blood. (I occasionally get a wonderful person who gets me on the first stick.)
I was brave and let them draw blood today. They stuck me 3 times, the last time was in the middle of my forearm, which was unpleasant. Don't let me fool you it's not for me. We keep playing with they idea of trying to start a family, and hypothyroidism that isn't treated can cause extreme brain development issues. Also had a general female check, hadn't had one since 2009. I soo hate going to the Dr., but I'm trying to get my body in best shape it can be in.



What improvements or tweaks can you make for this upcoming week?
All of it could be better specifically need to work on :
*less sodium
*less sugar
* less soda
*Portions
*movement

@paulknuth: When I was in school we had school police that would escort you if you wanted. Have her check into that. Mace is great for her purse or key chain. Many schools offer a free self-defense course as well. My parents were a little crazy, they always made me keep a can of wasp and hornet spray where I lived. It has a much longer stream and burns in a similar way according to a state police officer friend. Nowdays you never can be too safe, but she has to be able to live and enjoy it too.

@NICKI984: That's terrifying. Sorry that you had that scare. That young man sounds like he is in need of some help and support. No telling what his day to day life is like. Hope you can change her bus route.

Hi everyone.

The school bus thing is scary.

My girls are all college age. One lives away from home but in a dorm - next year when she lives off campus - seems like a lot of stories of students being assaulted by losers coming up from Philly to do no good. I am leaning towards getting her something so that when she reaches into her purse she has more than a cell phone to call police afterwards with to wrap her hand around. Maybe a Ruger LCP.

How did everyone do this first week?

Not too bad, went back to the gym and cleaned out the kitchen of food temptation :)

What are you proud of?

That I refuse to give up working on my weight and exercising, I really enjoy how I feel when I get to the gym.

What improvements or tweaks can you make for this upcoming week?

Keep following a good food plan that includes a lot of protein, fruit and vegetables. Get to the gym or at a minimum do exercises at home.

I feel like I did well this week. I'm proud that I've been taking walks every other day and eating better. I want to work on adding strength training this week, too.

How did everyone do this first week?
I was surprised I lost absolutely nothing. I have been doing some extra stuff (physical therapy and a lot of walking last week) so needless to say, I feel like I did not do well my first week!

What are you proud of?
That I have actually began to work out and try to move more.

What improvements or tweaks can you make for this upcoming week?
This week I'm shooting for portion control and increasing my time on my recumbant bike.


Checking in now. Not much happened last week. My stress level is still through the roof. I babysat this 14 year old boy for my neighbor (he stayed overnight) and while everyone was asleep he went into my daughters room and woke her and acted inappropriately with her. (no, she was not raped or molested) I have contacted the proper authorities and also notified his parents about what happened but they still ride the same bus together so I sit there and wait until she's on the bus and seated (the kids are seperated according to which school they go to) and then same thing when she gets off the bus. I'm there waiting just to make sure no more inappropriate contact can be made. To be honest the kid scares me, he's a little off. His dad just got custody of him last month when the kid decided it would be a good idea to push his grandma down the stairs. He told everyone he was trying to kill her because she was physically and verbally abusing him. Guess I should have known better than to have let him into my home. Now I worry for my daughter and I am actually in the process of getting her bus stop changed so there is no contact at all. She does not understand why she's not allowed to talk to him. It all has me extremely stressed out. Child services told me I am doing the right thing by waiting with her at the bus etc but I don't feel like that is enough. She should not have to ride the bus with this kid!

emoticon Mini Challenge for Wednesday 8/19

How did everyone do this first week? I did o.k, not great on the weight; however, I did most things correct avoided sweets, etc. Worked out, did not have any snack attacks!

What are you proud of? I got over 10,000 steps every day except Friday, that was because I drove for three hours on business and sat in a meeting right after that, it is difficult for me to get my steps when I have meetings and drives.

What improvements or tweaks can you make for this upcoming week? That darn Mexican food, need I say more?

I'm doing okay. I have a home health aide 3/week, PT 3/week, RN 1/week, and OT 1/week. I also will have a social worker come in once. All those plus I have appointments with my psychiatrist and my regular therapist. They are keeping me busy!

I've been non compliant with my exercises though. I have to be better. It's such a struggle when I can barely stay awake with all the pain killers.

Tuesday's challenge, a goal for this week:

This week I am going to work on my sodium. I always struggle with this one and I think it stops me from losing weight. I love my V-8 grrrrr. Maybe my goal should be no V-8 or no added salt, that said, my goal is to monitor my darn sodium!

I ate mostly healthy today. I did have some chicken tenders at lunch time though so I could have done better. I am just checking in before I get in bed for the night. It was my daughter's first day of 1st grade today and she's really excited about her teacher and 1st grade in general. I am so happy she likes school now. I give it a couple years and she'll be complaining she hates it! lol Hopefully she takes after me because other than my senior year in high school, I loved going to school!

My goal for this week is to eat breakfast!! It's something that it's so hard for me to do because I just like to get up and start doing things. But maybe by going to bed a bit earlier, I can get up a bit earlier and just give myself a chance to sit and have breakfast.

Monday's Challenge -- Added Fat?

I haven't eaten anything so far that I have added fat. My biggest fat content was my Atkin's meal bar (11). I didn't put sugar in my oatmeal that I sometimes do. (that's a start)

Today is our 24th wedding anniversary and I do not know if my husband has plans for us, but I will need to keep my calories in check if we go out.

I've been cutting out extra fat (and sugar) at breakfast. Before I started this challenge, I was eating about 6 of those frozen toaster waffles with butter and syrup. Now, I eat 2 with no toppings at all and a side of fruit. It's a perfect quick breakfast when I need to get moving early to get my walk in, and there's really not a huge difference in taste.

Challenge for Monday forgot the extra fat.

Complete, had my whole wheat english muffin and scrambled egg, used no butter on the muffin, actually I did not miss it. It tastes a little different but I think it is just what I am "used" to having. Will try to cut the fat on some other foods during the day. Keep up the great work team! I saw some very good losses.

Missed Friday, but wanted to answer.
What is your plan: more activity, portion check, trying to get steps in, and sometimes tracking. Started water aerobics love it!! Trying to monitor sodium and sugar.

What is your goal: any weight loss would be great. 1-2 lbs would be even better!!!! Be in general better physical condition. Healthier overall, for possible baby.

Do you track. sometimes. If I feel like I am gaining, or getting to many treats then I track, but it's frustrating to me,so I try not to.

Calorie range 1800-2500



blew it Saturday: We went out to eat, it was amazingly good food, I know the calories were way over, and I ate way too much. But enjoyed it and will try to do better today.

Happy Sunday all! Remember weigh in tomorrow.

Tomorrow's challenge is to watch the added fat that we eat.

Try to eat something that you would normally eat with butter, margarine, mayo etc. without it or with a substitute.

Example: Butter on vegetables, eat them plain or with Mrs. Dash etc.
