Hi Everyone,

I read through some of the posts and we have a great support team Bustinators. I am late for the mini challenges and qotd posts, but as far as St. Patty's day I did avoid the many cookies at work. But we did have a department lunch today to celebrate, so I had one grilled brats, some salads, pasta w/ veggies, wild green vinaigrette and pistachio delight. I know I should have probable just had the green salad and the brats, but the pistachio delight was very good.

I have been watching what I eat and watching portion sizes. Does anyone have any suggestions for a better meal plan. I am not a breakfast person, so I have been eating slimfast meal bars in the morning to make sure I get something in the morning. Has anyone ever tried these bars? Is this a bad idea?

I hope to lose more weight this week, now that my life has settled down a bit. You guys have been doing a great job and I will try to keep up more with the qotd. emoticon

Good evening all. Congrats to all! This was a great week for many! That's awesome!
Sorry I didn't catch up last night I had a horrible day at work and then my best friends
dad passed away last night and for some reason it has just crushed me. Brings back
memories of when my dad died 18 years ago for some reason. They have asked my
daughter to come home and officiate at the memorial service and I was shocked that
she said yes. I had no doubt she would come home but I really didn't think that she would
want to officiate over her first funeral where she was so close to the person who passed
away. I am very happy to get to see her, but not under these circumstances.

Debbie, that sounds awful. I hope your son is doing better now. I do hope everything turned out well at the hospital. Just looked up so very glad to see he is doing alright. I can't imagine having that kind of surgery and having to go back to work so soon after.

Dusty, I will get to that this weekend. It's been a bit. I think I know I changed everything else but not sure I changed my goals.

Jules, glad to hear you are feeling better, it's not fun being sick.

Heather 80 pounds is awesome girlfriend. Congrats!

Everyone else Hiya!! I am off to bed have a great evening all!

Happy St. Paddys Day!! emoticon

My son had his drain pulled. lI guess it had gotten plugged up so they just took it out. He wasn't admitted and he's on the mend. Everything looked good. emoticon

HI everyone! Great job on the weigh in! After the week I had last week I was glad to still see a loss....I did much better eating but still not perfect...

Yesterday I went to the gym for the first time in months and I feel GREAT...I am really going to try and make that a habit and not be gone so long because I know it's going to make such a difference in my weight loss...

Happy St. Patricks Day!

emoticon ooh, gr8 mini-challenge. Thanks for posting it Dusty! I'll take a look at my boards this week... I really love having goal/motivation boards!

emoticon long day at the hospital today... every time I walk those long halls, it wipes me out and makes me want to walk better!

I am finally getting over my 9 weeks of winter sick... and starting to have normal energy. this is my first week back to normal schedule, normal work, all that... I am adding in 1/2 hour of chair exercise before I shower and dress for the day... I need to work my way back up to normal strength & stamina... I get so tired but not sick & tired so much better, but I can NOT wait to feel well again... just have to have patience... and build back up... I am thankful I'm nearly well... it's a good start...

my normal schedule includes a few mins sparktime at breakfast, then an hour or so in the evening... missed that tonight, just a quick checkin, and I'm headed for bed... will chat more again tomorrow!

SparkCheers, jules :)

hey everyone way to go on the weigh in looks like everyone did really good I didn't keep track of the tenths when I weighed when I started kinda wish I had now cause I think I managed to lose 4 tenths of a pound which I know isn't great I am still at 387 so I didn't consider it a loss but I do consider myself very thankful that I didn't gain especially after the week I had I have really got to get this eating under control even if it isn't effecting my weight right now I know it isn't helping my cholesterol but this is the beginning of a new week so good going everyone and keep up the good work ...Debbie sorry to hear about your son hopefully it's something they can fix quickly without having to admit him unfortunately you cannot make young men take it easy while they heal they think they are invincible silly men when will they learn they are only human

Good morning! I lost 2.6 lbs so I'm a happy camper emoticon
I got a call from my daughter-in-law this morning. She has to take my son to ER because his drain is leaking outside of his body. I'm hoping it's a quick fix and he won't have to be admitted. I personally think they made him go back to work too soon. He was only off 9 days after skin removal surgery. He's in the Navy so it's not like he gets to sit around much with going up and down ladders. (He's on a sub). So I sit and wait to hear how he's doing; emoticon
Hope everyone has a great day

QOTD ~ How do you celebrate St Patrick's Day? Or do you? How do you handle the holiday foods?

I used to celebrate it as an excuse to drink when I was in my late teens / early twenties. But since then I don't really do anything. I will have a hard time turning down an Irish potato if I am offered one but I will try my best!

We really do not do much. I do make corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes, but it is just a basic meal that is naturally gluten free.

Okay, enough is enough. I joined this challenge to lose weight and have been at a standstill for the last 3 weeks. Today I am going to make changes. I am hoping to go shopping tonight for produce items and lay off the bread and processed carbs. I can do this. I have done this before and I can do it again.

Good morning team! I had a small loss, which I'm actually pretty happy about. We did not eat healthy at ALL this weekend, so I was sure I would show a gain. Don't worry, I'm back on track today.

I took today off work, and I'm pretty happy to have a day to recover from the weekend. It was fun, but exhausting! Also, my son is not feeling well today, and my mom is still sick, so having the day off will give me a chance to baby them a little. I did a blog with some pictures if anyone is interested in taking a look!

Hope you all have a great day! Don't forget to wear your green tomorrow!

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! I'm currently trying to play catch up on a lot of things because our Verizon Fios stopped working Saturday morning and today was the earliest someone could come out...makes you realize how addicted to the internet one is when they have no access to it at all even just for two days. Might be a sign I need to unplug more often (though by choice, not because of Verizon).

Lost .2lbs, which I'll take because this weekend was a mess. Today is a new day though.

Hi team, hows it going? It's rainy and a little chilly here in Washington state so it's been a kick back day. Just crocheting with my warm little pup next to me.

Anna, I'm on oral meds. I'm doing everything I can to stay away from the insulin. I saw my dad when his blood sugar went to low. We had to call the paramedics a couple times. He also passed out behind the wheel one time. We were lucky he just ended up in a ditch unharmed.I'll have to get my weights out and give it a try.

QOTD....we don't really celebrate St. Paddys Day. The only thing we do is have the corned beef and cabbage.

Have a good Sunday night!

Hi, All, I am back from the wilderness of no DSL too!! It came back on for a short while, then off & on & now it is back on!! I HATE being isolated without it!!!! Spark won't let me post here from my phone, either!!!! I can post on the food & fitness tracker but not on the Team threads!!

emoticon QOTD ~ How do you celebrate St Patrick's Day? Or do you? How do you handle the holiday foods?

I used to (LONG ago & far, far away....LOL!!) drink my share of green beer & eat the corned beef & cabbage dinner, but don't drink any more!! I would cook corned beef but not just for myself.....too much goes to waste!! I usually open a can of corned beef & slice it for a sandwich with some cooked cabbage & potatoes!! Holiday foods used to be a big problem for me, but now that I am alone, not a problem because I don't cook them & have no family so no issues there either!!

I wish Healthy Choice made a corned beef TV dinner!! LOL!!!!

Good luck on the weigh-in tomorrow!!!!

I don't celebrate St. Patty's day, just another day here.

As far as holiday foods, I treat them no different then I do any other day. I eat what I want but stay within my calories, I am not going to let one day mess me up.

Hi Missy. I think it is great that you are doing the research. Ultimately we have to decide the right choices for us. There is no right or wrong here. I am a huge advocate of doing the research and deciding for ourselves regardless of what others may insist (and sometimes that includes doctors). You know your body best! emoticon

Hi Everyone

I can't believe it's Sunday already. I had such a lousy week at school with the kids I'm dreading this week especially since it's standardized testing week. I've slipped up and had some soda this last week so I'm going to try to get back on track today. At least we have beautiful weather today!!

I am feeling a little more refreshed! My hubby is doing a little better with his healing and one of his friends came over yesterday to hang out which left me free to go out for a bit. On Friday night my sister in-law and I went for pedicures and then yesterday I was able to visit and reconnect with a life time family friend. Along with a lot of rest I feel ready to take on this coming week.

Anna - I'm so sorry you've been having such a rough time. I can relate to being angry. Every once in a while I get in the mood where I just hate everything and everybody and want to take it out on others.
Hope you find just the right doctor! I tend to blame everything on being so heavy even if it's just a cold. Like if I were a normal weight I might not have caught one, LOL!
emoticon on making it to the gym! I know the temptation to avoid it must have been hard.

Hi Anita! I hope your daughter's hockey tournament turned out well! emoticon

Linda - "I need to focus on me and regardless of where I am, make healthier choices". That's so true! It would be great to have the support of family and friends but when it comes right down to it, WE CHOOSE what we put into our mouths. Others can't be responsible for us just as we can't be responsible for their choices.
emoticon

Missy - "I feel a bit like a failure because I just can't do it the right way." I don't want you to feel like a failure! There is NO Right Way! The only right way is what's right for you!

We've all heard of bad outcomes to weight loss surgery and also success stories (many members of our team). It's such a personal choice that we all have to make for ourselves.
Hugs!

Believe me, there was nobody who felt more strongly against weight loss surgery than I did. But that was before gastric sleeve. Bypass or lapband would never ever be considered. They are not rearranging my plumbing or putting a foreign object in me. As I said, I know several people who have had the sleeve surgery over the last few years and many of the things that are true for the other, more dangerous surgeries are not true for the sleeve. And, it DID change their relationship with food in every single one of them. Just do it the right way sounds great doesn't it?? Because I've been so successful at it lol. 42 years old and have been at this since I was about 11...failure after failure after failure. The way I'm starting to think of it is weighing a 1 hr low risk surgery that has a very good chance of drastically improving my life vs the potential of 5 or so years from now (if not sooner) having a 12 hr triple bypass surgery from being obese. The health complications of morbid obesity are far greater than the risks involved in gastic sleeve surgery. All that said, I am still far from making up my mind because I am terrified of any kind of surgery, regardless of how minor. I will continue to research and learn so I can make an educated decision based on the type of surgery I'm considering and that's what I would recommend to anyone else who may be considering it. Sleeve is not the same as bypass or lapband :)

hi everyone it looks like everyone has been so active on here I have been off for a few days I am really dreading Monday scared to step on the scales I have been exercising a lot but I have also been off on my eating I have a bad habit of eating out and I don't usually eat healthy when I do and boy has this week been bad I have been having a lot of stress at home and it's not an excuse but something i'm gonna have to learn how to control and accept roll with life missy as far as the weight loss surgeries are concerned can't tell you what to do I did go into a weight loss seminar 2 yrs and was planning on having the lap band done after that point I changed my mind on the type of surgery I would have but I found out that at my hospital they wanted to do 6 weeks of therapy to prepare me for it and during that time they wanted me to go on a really strict diet of eating 100 grams protein a day and a bunch of other things I decided then if I could stick with that for six week then I could lose weight on my own and also after the surgery you aren't able to eat solid food for like a month afterwards and that really would not sit well with me I know there is ups and downs with the dieting God help me I know but go to one of the seminars or talk to one of the surgery centers cause it really didn't appeal to me as much once I found out all the details and I know what you mean about not having willpower like a friend told me just keep doing your best and God will do the rest ...anna I am so glad to hear you are gonna be getting you a different dr that would so discourage me to have my dr hit my weight every time I came in ... and Debbie that is so great you A1c is coming down that may not look like a big drop but it is huge great job

Hello Everyone,
As I was reading the post below me 2 things hit me. 1. I really need to schedule a doctor's appointment but I absolutely hate dealing with it. My doc always skirts around the issues and automatically assumes I have high blood pressure and diabetes... So far I have never had either. She said I am borderline diabetic so I went and purchased the blood test thing (can't remember the name) and tested myself daily, each meal, before and after.. and still do every once in awhile.. it always stays around 90. From what I have read that is good. I know I am way overdue for a check up and just should get it over with.

I personally will not have surgery. My number one reason is I fear if I can't control my love for food now.. I don't think I will be able to because of surgery and the risks involved there. I need to change how and why I eat. Surgery will not change that for me. I also fear surgery so that doesn't help either.

This week isn't going as well as I have hoped. However, I have been doing alot of thinking regarding food and exercise. I am leaning toward whole foods but I think a part of me fears making the commitment. My husband and I love to eat out and love ethnic foods, it makes it very difficult for me. I can easily say.. he doesn't support me so I just can't do it alone, but that would be unfair. How can I expect him to have the will power when I don't either. I need to focus on me and regardless of where I am, make healthier choices. I am the one responsible for me.

Lots of thinking going on here. Hopefully I will be able to come up with a plan and stick with it very soon.

Linda

Hey Kim – thanks for your kind words. I have already decided that I will not be returning to this doctor. This has not been the first time she suggested weight loss surgery. I guess I’m just tired of the constant need to be on guard when I get a new doctor.

Funny you would think that there should never be skinny person walking into the hospital because we are always blamed for our issues being due to our weight.

Enjoy your dinner with your husband, any time you can steal time to be together is so important. I applaud you for making each other a priority!

Hi Debbie – Yes Byetta is a diabetic medication and they will sing the glories of it. I always now go and do my own research before I start any type of medicine. I know that there are some sites that will tell you that a medication is the next best thing since sliced bread and others that have all sort of dire warnings. I find that even if you look at the packaged information that comes with the drug there are serious side effects. I feel we all have to be our own advocate.

Are you taking insulin for your diabetes? I have found limiting carbs and sugar along with exercise especially weight bearing exercise really helps control my blood sugar numbers. I have a wonderful gym that I go to that is run by physical therapists and geared to older individuals with health issues. Talk about feeling welcome and at home. One of the things that they focused on was how important strength training is for BS control and boy has it made a difference. It maybe something to consider.

Oh and I did make it to the gym and it has improved my mood. LOL the power of sweat

Oh Anna, bless your heart!!! I tell ya I fired a doctor over my weight! Every time I went to see him he would say well if you loose weight you will feel better. Um hello what the heck does weight have to do with an ear infection? Or pneumonia? Beats the crap o la outta me but that was the cause for all my problems. But, let me tell you that I was the healthiest overweight person my new doctor has seen in many years. The first things I said to my new doctor was, I know I need to quit smoking (I have) and I know I am fat and until I am ready to talk about that we won't be discussing that. And do you know what he said to me? He said first of all you are not fat, you maybe overweight, but you are not fat that is derogatory and when I was ready we talked about doing something about it. But he never once made me feel bad or that if I would just loose weight I would be much better. I guess what I am saying is maybe you need to get a new doctor if you can. One who wont degrade you and make you feel like crap every time you go. We can't change people's attitudes towards us. But, we can change how we react!!! Big hugs to you girlfriend and I do hope that you are in a better state of mind this evening and not so angry.

Debbie, Congrats girlfriend your A1C going down is an awesome thing. Hubby's was 11.9 last time his was checked. I could beat him but he doesn't listen. Anyway, that is great and it's going in the right direction so that is a HUGE thing! I am glad to hear that your hubby is being more supportive.

Well Jules, honey don't throw your computer out the window my dear, you would just have to go and buy a new one. LOL!!! Sorry you were having problems but welcome back!

Well, I got off work early today and hubby and I went out to dinner it was really nice to get to spend a couple hours with him. He didn't get much sleep today so he went back to bed when we got home because he worked last night and has to work tonight. BOO. We are both working a crazy amount of hours right now. And don't get to see each other too awful much at the moment so I cherish the time I do get to spend with him!! I hope everyone is having a good weekend! I am off to find something else to get into.

Good afternoon!
I went for my bloodwork this week and got my results. My A1C went from 11.6 to 10.2. Not a big improvement but better than what it was. I actually got to 196 yesterday but normally it's staying in the 200. I hope with eating the right foods and losing weight, it will continue to go down.
My husband is being alot more supportive. We go to the store and we would usually get something bad for us and now he's not even asking to get it. That helps so much.

Anna, is that Byetta a diabetes medication? I go to the dr next week and I know she's going to put me on another med for my diabetes and i sure don't want that one!

We're going to shampoo the carpets now so I have to get going. Everyone have a wonderful day!

Good Morning

Warning: rant to follow…

I woke up in the worst mood/attitude that I can remember in a long time. I’m so very angry, mad at not sure what. Was very short with my son that he was asking what he did to upset me… Nothing

I dropped him off for practice SAT testing and feel even more horrible that he went into testing thinking I’m not happy with him. He is the best child I could have been blessed with.

I’m evaluating what has caused this bad mood…I had a doctor’s appointment with my endocrine doctor on Thursday. My weight was the issue never mind that I have lost 12 pounds since my last visit but she felt the need to bring up weight loss surgery again, adding other oral diabetic medication… Does every doctor you see have to suggest the surgery for me it is not an option I’m not leaving my son an orphan. I know the risks of being overweight but the surgery in my opinion has a lot more risks. And in the long run it is not the answer because it does not fix what is wrong and that is my head and how I relate to food.

I have worked with my hospitals medical weight loss program and found that to be a much better alternative. The interesting thing was that we had a lot of participants in the group sessions that did have the weight loss surgery and had gained weight back in some cases more then what they had lost originally. In regards to the medication she suggests Byetta which is what my husband was on for a long time and the risks are not something I’m willing to take. He died of pancreatic cancer yet she tells me it has not been proven to cause cancer, I have enough proof for me.

This morning I got dressed to go to the gym and was feeling like a stuffed cabbage now I’m just angry at myself and didn’t go to the gym…will try later this morning. I AM just tired of it all, the constant struggle to lose weight, the negative attitude toward large people…

HI alll

Missy I watch the show my 600 pound life and see how hard it is for them to schange. with or without the surgery the craving and the mindset are the same. The surgery doesnt take away the cravings.

I went yesterday and mailed my transcripts and i went and had my eyes checked as i was sure i needed glasses. Well i was right. I will have them in a week. The bad news is my eyes are messed up. I had cataract surgery when i was 38. It seems a film is growing over the lense they put in. Also my other eye was damages as well when i got iritis. They need to keep a close watch on them but i wont have to go back for a year.

Kim, you absolutely did not offend me. I put it out there hoping for feedback. My problem is that I know all of the right things to do. Some of the time, I don't have the willpower to do them and other times I do everything perfectly and still don't lose or even gain. I think the surgery would force me to make better choices. I also happen to know several people who have had it in the last few years (gastic sleeve...not band or bypass) and they not only look great but are now off all of their meds and have tons of energy. None seem to regret having it and view it as the best thing they've every done for themselves. And, you are correct, I am definitely conflicted, almost to the point of obsession and depression.

Deb, watch some of the YouTube videos for people who have had the sleeve surgery. Most claim that after an initial period of mental hunger, they no longer want to overeat. Your last line is my only concern right now...I want to stay alive.

Missy, I've thought about getting the surgery too. I'm so tired of fighting the food addiction. I worried about the same fears you have too. I always thought maybe counseling would be involved to figure out why I'm addicted. And then I think can I enjoy living with just 1/2 cup of food or whatever small amount we would be able to have.....but I guess it would keep me alive.

Good Evening Ninja's I hope everyone has had a fabulous Friday!!! I did. I got off early and then hubby and I went out to dinner and then shopping. I had to get a new purse. Just had too. LOL It was in a flyer and it has butterflies all over it and I had to have it. It's too cute and it's reversible! So 2 in 1 Tomorrow is short day thankfully and I truly hope that the sun decides to shine, I need vitamin D darn it! It has rained all day today so we didn't get to walk at lunch. I did workout this morning but those lunch time walks get us out of the office for a bit and out in the sunshine!

Debbie, Nothing much fun planned. Just going out to dinner with my hubby as we both have to work so we won't have much time for anything else.

Oh my goodness Heather that is terrible. I feel for his family what a way to leave your child just so very sad.

Missy, I think whether to have the surgery or not is really a personal choice. I have several clients who have had it done and they have all said the same thing to me lately when they have seen how much weight I have been able to loose without it. They have all said to me "you are doing it the healthy way". A lot have said that the biggest thing that they wished they would have learned is how to eat. How to maintain their hunger. Almost everyone has gained weight back because they weren't taught how to eat. By this I mean what is good verses bad if that makes since. Like you should have 100 grams of protein or stay under 100 grams of carbs ect. If you really think you are starving take a walk for a few minutes, then if you are still hungry eat something but chose something wise. Please don't feel like I am trying to deter you I am not at all just letting you know what a few people have said to me lately, because you really sound as though you are conflicted. Is there a weight loss clinic near you that offers other ways to loose weight? That maybe something to look into as well. I hope I haven't offended you , I truly didn't mean too.

Well, I am off to bed gotta get up early tomorrow for work Have a great evening all!

Wow I did awful on the trivia lol...38%!!

So, where I had just given it thought recently, I am now seriously considering gastric sleeve surgery. The more I research, the better it looks. It's much safer than the other weight loss surgeries. I feel a bit like a failure because I just can't do it the right way, but maybe it's time to admit just that...I can't do it. One of the main reasons I never wanted to consider it was that I would still want to eat because of my food addiction. Apparently, that is not true. The portion of the stomach that is removed contains a lot of the hormone that cause cravings / overeating (or something like that). People who were addicted to sweets prior to surgery have come away hating sweets. My other fear is, of course, dying during surgery (anesthesia scares me). It turns out that the surgery is only about an hour long and honestly, the rate I'm going, I'm sure to be facing a 12 hr triple bypass at some point in my future. I still haven't made up my mind because I am still terrified of any surgery. But, I've been at this for more than 30 years and have never succeeded. Maybe this is my only option if I ever want to be healthy.

Sorry for rambling.

*Missy*

emoticon Goooooooooo Bustinators!

Mare emoticon on no soda for 3 weeks!

Annie - It sounds like your mother-in-law is in good spirits and that goes a long way in a fast recovery too.

Regina - So your week has been so stressful. Hopefully you'll be able to relax this weekend and maybe do something fun for yourself.

Kassandra - That must have been so scary for you! Besides the suggestions about diet, it sounds to me like it could have been a panic attack. With the anxiety you said you've been having you could of hyperventilated. You're young and that's sometimes when it starts. (Easy to fix once you know what's going on.
Did they run tests? Are you going to go back so they can figure it all out?
Hugs!

Heather - That's so very sad! Sometimes when you're young like that you don't have the ability to see the future and all the possibilities. Like all you can see is now.

Lisa - I hope your daughter gets well soon!
It takes a lot of courage to go back to school! Do you know what you want to take?

Debbie - You're right about saying no to your mom. As long as you don't cave she should get the message.
Hope your blood tests turn out ok!

Regina - A cruise sounds like so much fun with your friend. 50 lbs. is doable!

emoticon It's 82 degrees right now!

emoticon Jules's DSL is still out. Hopefully she'll be back soon!
