I generally avoid all the foods they say to avoid like spicy, fried, tomato based foods, and citrus. I don't eat for two hours before I go to bed. I elevate the head of my bed. I drink mostly water-no soda, no tea, and not tooo much lemonade. I take aciphex twice a day but still have some problems. I shouldn't eat chocolate either but do. Sometimes it bothers me sometimes it doesn't. Losing weight has helped a lot. But I really never know when it will bother me or flare up. What's really strange is that it even hurts after not eating during the night. I'm happy with Aciphex for now but I really know when it wears off each evening-about 5 each evening-mornings aren't so bad.

I had to give up everything with caffeine ( I don't have Barretts I have gerd/nerd/prolapse esoph and hiatal hernia, my Aciphex 20 mg daily works like a charm as far as acid reduction feelings go- but does other not so good things but my doc said I must take it - once not 2 long ago I skipped 3 days of my med and I was in sooooooo much pain- bottled water made it feel worse and ironically a little slice of pepperoni pizza made me feel better lol, but in general I try to avoid dairy - I drink almond milk- I avoid soy but not due to g.i. issues, b4 I started on the med the things that bothered me were citrus fruits, alcohol- it felt like swallowing knives -and I was never really into drinking -more of just a sampler/wine taster, tomato/spag sauces hurt anything acidic hurt more than spicy foods ever did my docs told me to eat smaller meals , not to lay and rest right after eating, to elevate the head of my bed(and of course to loose weight-eventhough my skinny as rail friends have the same gerd issues as I do) they also said no carbonated nor fried foods -I do well with whey protein shakes, fresh berries -except for strawberries or cranberries , sprouted grain english muffins, nut butters good luck to you I hope you find the foods that "work" for you : )

hi, new to this team and I have Barrett's and would like to share what foods and drinks work best for others. I have not found many drinks that don't give me heartburn. I drink plain soy milk if I use milk. I try the green teas, but they don't always agree with me. Anyone got any ideas. I still drink coffee and some pop. I am going to give them both up for lent, so I would like some ideas on what works for others. Hope we can share some of our issues with food.

I'm on aciphex twice a day, too, for Gerd and Barrett's esophogus. I've read that certain meds like this do cause certain nutrients to not be absorbed so I asked my Dr. too. He tested me and vitamin D, iron, and calcium are all low. I have to take supplements. Personally, I think they go hand in hand.

Hi all- I take aciphex 20 mg daily and it makes me feel so much better- if I skip 2 days I feel sooooooo bad -I have gerd/nerd and hiatal hernia and prolapsed esoph. Also I have very low Vitamin D- which has gone up a little with mega doses for the past 3 months -do you think the aciphex could be the cause of my inability to absorb certain nutrients? Thanks : ) -and my doc does NOT want me to go off of the aciphex
