Something inevitably comes up to break my stride, but have been doing my best to continue to get on the treadmill daily and strength-training 3 times weekly.

Last month I had some worries with my left quad causing some pain. It wasn't terrible, but I worried that it would get worse. So I gave it a rest for a few days, but then we went out of town for a week where I had a fitness center at my disposal for a week and I really put the pedal to the metal. I was doing an hour each on the elliptical and the treadmill PLUS a half hour with dumb bells on a DAILY basis. The quad continued to bug me a bit, but didn't worsen. Spoke up to my doc and it turns out some degenerating L2-L3 disks in my spine are the likely culprits. But I figure my workouts only serve to strengthen the muscles supporting my back, so I'm just going to keep at it. The majority of back surgeries yield HIGHLY unsatisfactory results and my back isn't bothering me, so I won't bother it.

Now, THIS month I went and got a blister on my foot (probably because I had dress socks handy and didn't use my usual white cotton ones...grrr!) last Sunday and have been grounded this week while it heals. I've been doing some strength-training each day to keep myself busy in the meantime...but I just HATE these breaks in my attempts to STREAK!

Oh well, making the best of it. The weight loss is slowing but continues to go in the right direction...getting increasingly dissatisfied with these baggier and baggier clothes! :-)

Frannie - So glad to have your company! I still have to get my 30 in today but I've got some motivation going, knowing I have a new-to-me Leslie Sansone DVD to try out.

Wow, Don! Very impressive!!! And Super Duper WTG on breaking through the 250 barrier! That must be an incredible feeling!

I'm happy just to DO it but you've got it all recorded in detail! Actually, I guess I do too since I try to enter it in the fitness tracker every day.

Streak on!

Been streaking already...finally blew through my 250# barrier which I've been hovering, backsliding from since early December. 248#...onward and downward...woo-hoo!

I posted some thoughts in a recent blog about my change in cardio strategy which I believe made a difference for me.

Here's my Jan. streak so far:

Jan. 1 - 3.7 miles / 60 mins. treadmill
Jan. 2 - 2.2 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 3 - 2.9 miles / 45 mins. treadmill
Jan. 4 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 5 - 3.7 miles / 60 mins. treadmill
Jan. 6 - 6.2 miles / 60 mins. treadmill
Jan. 7 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 8 - 2.3 miles / 36 mins. treadmill
Jan. 9 - 2.3 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 10 - 2.3 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 11 - 3.1 miles / 55 mins. treadmill
Jan. 12 - 4.1 miles / 62 mins. treadmill
Also 30 mins. on elliptical, but not sure how to count this...?
Jan. 13 - 3.9 miles / 61 mins. treadmill. Also 31 mins. on elliptical (around 3600 strides)
Jan. 14 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 15 - 2.5 miles / 40 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 16 - 2.9 miles / 45 mins. treadmill
Jan. 17 - 2.9 miles / 45 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 18 - 2.5 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 19 - 3.5 miles / 52 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 20 - 4.0 miles / 60 mins. treadmill & 3.3 miles / 50 mins. treadmill again...!
Jan. 21 - 4.1 miles / 60 mins. treadmill
Jan. 22 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 23 - 2.9 miles / 43 mins. treadmill

Total = 74.9 (so far)

I broke my exercise streak on Sunday after 310 days, for reasons I explain in my blog. Yesterday, January 22 was day 1 of my new streak. It's good to be getting a fresh start. Thought I'd post here on our good ol' class team for accountability. You folks were such a big encouragement along the way! Thanks!

And feel free to join me if you want to start a streak of your own!!!

My personal challenge is at least 30 minutes of intentional exercise a day. Generally that will be cardio (I also set myself a separate monthly goal of cardio minutes), sometimes strength but might also include stretching.

The idea is not so much numbers but consistency. It's sometimes fun to find creative ways to fit exercise into a busy day. One day I walked up and down the steps at church while waiting for one of my piano students. She was 15 minutes late, so I got in half of my daily exercise quota! There have also been times when I popped in a Walk Away the Pounds DVD VERY late at night because I didn't want to miss a day.

Have fun and keep on Sparkin'!
