September 23 - 27 (Today)

DIET: Well, I have been eating from a menu that has helped me in the past to get off of sugar. It really gets me back on track nutritionally. It starts with oatmeal (with walnuts and banana). There's a mid-morning snack of an apple (but I didn't have any, so I've been eating red bell pepper strips). Next, lunch is a small piece of chicken breast along with 1/2 cup of a starch (such as brown rice or potato), along with a green veggie. Mid-afternoon (which I usually don't eat) is celery with some almond butter. Last is dinner: fish, asparagus and a BIG salad with minimal salad dressing. A small bowl of mixed berries is allowed after dinner, if you want it, but I usually don't. Oh, and at any time you can have a hard-boiled egg during the day, and I like those, so I have my allowed ONE. And yes, I'm feeling so much better!

EXERCISE: I bought a 12-week exercise program. (I bet ya'll can't believe this since I just said that I was having so much fun creating my own routines!!!) But it wasn't expensive, and I just wanted to do something that someone else created, complete with yoga routine once a week, and fat-blasting cardio routines! I plan to start it this Sunday with another girl. In the meantime, I've been picking and choosing from my past two weeks of routines or using one of my older exercise DVDs.

MIND: My mind finally feels like it's in the right place to WANT to accomplish my fitness goals! Each day I am excited to get to my exercise! I think one of the main things that has given me this "get-up-and-go" spirit is that every year prior to my birthday, I throw myself into getting into shape and nutrition. It started when I was about to turn 50. I took a calendar and counted backwards 50 days before I was to turn 50. And I dedicated myself to exercising and eating nutritiously for that time period. This year I'm turning 57--and this past Tuesday was the beginning of my 57-Day Countdown! It's going fantastic!!!

Rats! I have fallen behind in recording my progress here...

September 16 - 22

DIET: I guess I messed up on this for this week. I didn't try anything new that I can remember.

EXERCISE: I've continued all week creating 30 minute exercise routines that were either full-body strength, or else were just upper body/core or lower body/core. It's just been really fun!

MIND: Since finding the time to exercise is what a lot of people say keeps them from getting it done, I found a quote that resonated with me---and to help ME find the time:

"Problem: Life challenges you to do great things, but tempts you with the mediocre.
Solution: You must fight like hell to prioritize what you want to matter the most."

Month is winding down...did you do something new this past week you want to share for the September challenge?

I am trying black bean burgers from scratch
reading about Intermittent fasting
exercise was doing a routine I discovered online somewhere, I can't remember where :( I blogged about it the other day..It is a base that I can make changes to it to keep it interesting..kicks my butt..LOVE IT!!! (and I get to incorporate my rebounder into it as well for the cardio session!)

Exercise and Mind are both incorporated into this one website that I found..though I have been reading quite a few other blogs etc as well, I am finding myself motivated the most by this one:
busygirlhealthylife.com/

quite possibly the diet will be from here as well :)

I'm new to Sparkpeople and the team so I'm jumping in mid-month!
DIET: I'm ordering a bountiful basket to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into my diet. I'm going to attempt to make zucchini chips tonight for a healthy snack while I'm at work.
EXERCISE: Husband and I took our son to the zoo and we walked around for two hours! I walked for a quick 10 minutes yesterday and plan on bouncing after work today.
MIND: I read Looking Good Feeling Great, by Karol Kuhn Truman. It's a fast & easy read, but very motivational for those looking into rebounding.

DIET: Going to make Quinoa Burgers today-vegetarian high in protein, will let you know how they taste and share recipe. DELICIOUS!!! Below is the link to the blog for the recipe. I also made my own Tzatziki sauce that is linked in with the recipe. My honey like them too. I made some patties but then I also used the mixed inside red peppers for stuffed peppers. I am trying to cut out breads so this worked out so good!!!

EXERCISE: I tried some HIIT on my stepper on saturday. Not real smart to do the day before a 12k event but it kicked my butt. It was great!

MIND: Read a manifesto from Woman Incredible-agree with alot of what she says but not all.
It is free if you sign up for emails from her blog, so far I have not been overloaded with stuff so it is not bad at all.

DIET: I had a buffalo burger, which is new to me (we're in an area where buffalo are). I also have been eating LESS when we go out... either I take half of my dinner home; or two nights ago I only ordered a bowl of soup when we went out for dinner with a large group of RVing friends.

EXERCISE: Ah-hhh! New to me: Creating new exercise formats every night this past week for a small class I'm conducting each morning. We've moved on from just using resistance bands, so I've been scanning YouTube and other sources to come up with "balanced" programs. It's been fun!

MIND: Oops! I pretty much answered this one in the above response. But here's a quote I read this week that has captured me:

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” ~ George Addair

Something new each week?
Diet
Exercise
Mind

Hmmm sounds like it could be do-able, although I'm a week late joining.

Let's see, last week, something new I did in exercising - watched a video with my baby dvd player on the table thingy that we have redneck-rigged to the top of my stationery bike and I pedaled away while watching the flick ("The Hunger Games" - for the scary parts, I pedaled harder!! I didn't want the kids to catch me!!!!).

emoticon ( hope this is an exerciser bike?? if it is actually an elliptical, then we'll just have to suspend disbelief and pretend it's a bike.).

New for Food??

We got some fresh peaches !!! YUMMY !!! and put up a bunch of them in the freezer vac pack thingy dealy whopper thing that my mom has... so we can thaw them out and have some peaches in the winter when store boughten peaches are yukky and old and hard as a rock, or too expensive because they were hand-delivered by boat from the far reaches of the Earth.

New for Mind?
welll.... I changed my mind on my last name and went from MSDRPEPPER to PROVERBS31JULIA. Does this count???

Seems like there was some profound thoughts from quotes I read earlier today...
Oh - I remember! just earlier today... some gal included a link on her blog. Think it was something like DOGLADY1 or DOGLADY or something?? she'd just finished a triathlon and Sally Edwards was there. So there's this article about her, and I snagged this part of the interview because I thought it was a positive comment and something I need to do for myself!!!

(quote: towards the end of the interview article. I forget who SS is, maybe the name of the magazine or maybe the name of the interviewer?? SE is Sally Edwards.) ....

SS: Do you have any tips to help other women to be strong in their later years as well?

SE: I would say invest in yourself, it's the most important investment you can make. Invest in eating well and being emotionally healthy. Invest in tools, like heart rate monitors and good bicycles and good running shoes. Invest in your time. A lot of women just spend a lot of time giving and sacrificing and that's important work, it feels good, but the greatest feeling of all is to be healthy and happy.

So that's it for last week. Today is the 10th? Not sure what new will be this week. Tomorrow is Patriots Day/9-11 day, gotta be a new meaning to come out of that mess of memories!? A new way to look at what we experienced? A new hope for the future, when such dastardly deeds won't be going on? I keep thinking of Marvin Gaye's song "What's Going On?" when I read about all the awful things going on around the world now... but... I may be stepping on toes here. So I'll shut up now...

She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.

DIET: Avocado "sauce" for pasta- as a vegetarian I need to find other sources of healthy protein. As well as healthy fats..avocado, garlic pods (to taste) some olive oil and basically anything else you think of...that is the basis, some recipes have added pine nuts..I added some roasted peppers and a little more seasoning..mix it in a food processor or blender and then add to pasta right after it has been drained. It does NOT reheat since avocado is not really a cooking vegetable/fruit. it was YUMMY!!!!
EXERCISE: Wall Squats...used them in training but I never did them..weird...right now challenge to a minute hold a day..which isn't too difficult so I will probably go for 2 today.
MIND: Reading Jeff Galloway's book on How to Run til your 100. I run/walk now but never read the "official" training theories behind it, so now I am

Every Week for the month of September your challenge is to something "NEW" once a week in each of these things:

DIET: Try a new healthy item whether it is a new fruit or veg, a new recipe, anything that is new for you and then share it with the group-good or bad reviews are welcomed

EXERCISE: Try a new move each week..can be adding in a different type of muscle conditioning, or add in a high intensity interval, or a whole new exercise-again please share with the group.

MIND: Read something each week that enhances your mind..can just be a positive quote, an article or a whole book-please share.

These things can be as big or small as you want just as long as they are NEW to you...hopefully by the end of the month we will all see some sort of changes in each of these categories for the better!
