Very sad. I appreciate books like this because it is so easy to judge the choices people make, but if you look further, you can see why it isn't so easy. I really feel like the political system Waiting was set in, was a character by itself.

I finished it yesterday. I gave 4 stars also. I won't say anything about storyline either yet. But books like this always makes me appreciate our country and my life. They don't have access to the foods we do. There is one part where she remembers tasting a banana years ago. I hate to admit mine go bad sometimes. And obviously can't lead their lives as their choice. You have to have and in to get something decent. And that was the 70's. I was in East Germany before wall came down and it was horrible how little foods there were. We had retired relatives come to visit during that time and they were overwhelmed by our grocery stores. At that time if you were retired you were allowed to leave because they hoped you wouldn't come back. No need for the old people.

I'm a little more than half way through. It's different than I expected. I can't decide how I feel about the characters but I know I want to find out what happens.
