Thanks for the tips Amy. With Platypus it is all free hand but sometimes I use the pantograph to get me going with muscle memory. And thanks for the tree tips. They sound cute. Carol

Carol--do you meander freehand? Instead of regular meander you could add occasional loops or stars (like the kind we drew in grade school). When you come to the top of a tree, quilt one of those stars on the top of some and perhaps try a garland type pattern (sort of a zig-zag) within the trees. If the trunks need something, put vertical lines in them. Add a swirl or something easy in the center of the stars.

By the end of the week, I should have another quilt finished.

I thought about that Bev but there is a plethora of trees. I do have a pantograph roll that is large meanders with a star thrown in occasionally. I'm thinking that would be appropriate for stars on top of the tree. Maybe I'll rent the longarm at the LQS. Or copy the pattern onto paper and sew over it. I have the tissue tracing paper. After the first row, I might have it down where I dont have to trace anymore. Carol

I would love to sandwich the tree quilt and start the quilting process. But it is so big. And how to quilt it? The decorator in me wants to outline quilt each tree and meander around them. Sounds like a lot of work to me. A large meander. Carol

I ripped out the two blocks on the Tree quilt and made that repair. I am leaving it the size it is which is a twin because I have a pink and white stripe for the backing which is perfect. Then I can put it in my living room to snuggle under. CArol

Carol--I don't see anything wrong with overall meandering! I know the trend is to get away from it, but I still love the look and feel of it and so do many who see my quilts. I think meandering provides an overall softness and texture that other more tightly quilted designs do not. I plan on meandering the center of the quilt that I pinned yesterday.

I got another pieced top from last year pinned yesterday. I plan to start the quilting process today.

I finished the binding on a lap quilt that had been languishing for several years. Two women at church tied it beautifully and I just had to do the binding. Finished the Christmas tree top but I need to rip out two squares and redo them. Two are touching that are the same fabric right in the middle and it bothers me. So out they come. I've decided to finish it the size it is. Not sure i what to do about quilting it. Paying someone else isn't an option anymore unless it is too big for me to do. An overall meander probably. Carol

Finished slippers I started two years ago yesterday. Silly for them to be set aside. Took an hour to be done.
Working on a hat also started two years ago, should be done today.
Once these are done no more procrastinating getting the quilt done :)

Right now I have it folded up on the DR table with the rest of the quilting stuff on the DR table. I thought it would be fun to quilt it for this year but It would be fun to make it larger as well. I should just pack it all up in a box and start making the smaller size blocks for an additional border. I would use 2" of white with words on it and then a row of smaller trees and then additional border until big enough. As I said, I have the fabrics, why not. Not this year though. The smaller trees are 5 by 7 which would add to the size. Or I could keep it as a throw twin size for Christmas decor. It needs quilting but too much on my plate right now. and I would take it to the LQS to quilt. There are two blocks in the center with the same fabric. I had it all set out so this wouldn't happen but was too lazy to rip it out. I might still rip it out later. Just not now. Carol

Only three tops to quilt AMy? I have numerous, too many to count. I finished my BOM blocks yesterday and ready for the meeting today. We are using the Cake Mix papers and it is a lot of fun. Seems I only quilt and finish the ones that are destined for a purpose. Bev, your quilt was lovely. Carol

Carol--you are on your way to some finishes!

I finished Capistrano Swallows today and a picture of it is on the wall. It was a true UFO. I never really lost interest in it, but just needed to wait until the right time for each step.

This is a close up. There is wishbone quilting in the colored portion of the squares. It is hard to see. There is also tiny wishbone quilting in the narrow deep red borders (the deep red appears brown in the picture).

The blocks for the MBR quilt are finally finished and I've got most of them trimmed. My goal is to get the rest of them trimmed by Friday and then spend the weekend getting it laid out (which will require sweeping and mopping our foyer) and start the actual assembly.

The project I am working on is a UFO! I made a sample block two years ago and finished piecing the top last November just before my dad died. I am doing lots of special quilting and thread changes on this top so it will take some time to finish, but it will be done this month!

Put 5 inch borders around it and call it a 92x92 inch queen! That's what I think I'll end up doing unless they end up being 10 inch blocks. Then I might just add another block.

I seriously need to finish up the MBR quilt before Thanksgiving. I've got 2 more charity quilts that I'd like to get done before the end of the year and get some of the QOV blocks knocked out and mailed in as well. But unless I can get the MBR done quickly none of that is going to happen.

Can you believe it is November? What projects do you need to finish before the end of the year? Now that Bonnie's colors have come out, I need to finish up some things before the mystery actually starts. I sure don't need another 82" square quilt but what's a body to do? Carol
