Looks like you have a plan for the rest of the year Carol. I am just winging it...doing what strikes me at the moment. So far, I'm pleased that I am very into finishing up pieced tops. I'm just going to follow the BH mystery as I'm not really a fan of square quilts and I'm not into the colors she picked. It sounds like you have to be super careful with value choices so the pattern will show which is another indication to me that I have to see it before I make it.

yes, I could Amy. However, I have Bonnie' mystery coming up and I stupidly signed up to test a quilt for Erica at Kitchen Table Quilting. I have all these sets of fat quarters that I've bought here and there and when I see a pattern that I think will use them up, I go for it. We are having a retreat here in January so I will take a few things there. Mostly the blocks are made, just have to sew them together in most cases. I have at least three like that. Also, the tree blocks are nearly all made and I need to finish that for Chrtistmas this year. Carol

One of 13 Saruni top quilted and bound. I found out last week that we need 13 quilts by Thanksgiving to send over to Saruni Girls Rescue Center. I will be making at least 3-4 of them and my sister and two other ladies will be piecing the other tops. I will be quilting and binding all 13.

I bought a lot of quilting rulers at the Madison expo. I added to the collection today. I primarily bought sets of rulers, larger circles (up to 12 inch nested by Quilter's Rule), a set of arc rulers (HQ), a set of ovals (Amanda Murphy), a wave one 3/6 inch HQ), and a half square type one about 9 inches (HQ). The books that I have recently bought have loads of inspiration for these shapes. I will use these rulers primarily for framing freehand filler type quilting. I hope to have lots of fun with them.

Amy, can't wait to hear about your purchases! Yesterday, while the plumber was here, I dragged out the One block wonder quilt with the Santa panel that I did about 2 years ago. I found a red backing for it and a batting piece that was a perfect size and started quilting it on my regular Viking. I wanted red thread in the bobbin and blue on top and didn't feel like going through tension issues and filling bobbins on Platypus. It is going quickly but put it aside for lunch and appmt and nap. If I finish it, it will go to the church for the drawing probably. Carol

Thanks for all the nice comments. One of the quilt/sewing stores is having a sale Saturday. The earlier you get there, the bigger the discount. I will get up early and go to see what they have (rulers, threads, notions and machine accessories are what is included in the sale--40% off if you go between 7-9). It is about half an hour drive so I'll be up early! I do like rulers with curves as those are hard to get even when doing freehand.

I have cleaning to do for next weeks company. It is not a real disaster here, but I do like things very clean when guests are planned.

You did a great job Amy. It is fun to learn to use the rulers. I like the straight 12" ruler the best for straight line quilting. I finished the Christmas Tree and I need to get a pic. Also of the Row Robin. Maybe I can get hubby to hold them. Then I have a serious clean out for son to get here. Carol

The large 4 petals that are in the plain squares are ruler quilted. It was my goal to use one on this quilt. It took a lot of time to quilt those as it required 8 ruler placements for the 4 petals. It was a learning experience to figure out the ruler placement for each curve, but it got much easier after stitching 48 motifs! It was also a challenge to figure out which ruler to use to get the effect that I wanted. In the setting triangles of the center, I also used a different ruler to quilt the first set of curves, then just freehanded the rest of them. The rest of all the blocks and motif echo type quilting was all freehand. I stitched a chalked in spine for my outer border and then freehand quilted the feathers.

This quilt is taking forever. I really wanted to have the top done by the end of September, alas I was so naive. Then I wanted to have all of the rectangle blocks trimmed/done by the end of this weekend, again. . . no. I'm about halfway through trimming the rectangle blocks. The small square blocks are completely done. And then it's 60 of the snail blocks to do (I did 4 as part of my original test). I'd like to have the top completed by the end of this month now, but I'm not sure I'm going to make that either. We're doing one final house project next weekend since it's a 3 day weekend and so no sewing is going to happen.

I've finished one (except for the borders) and a girl at work is going to longarm them for me. Grandson's quilt is about 1/2 done. I have the other two started and should have them finished before they get home with the boys! This month is progressing nicely already.

I'm working on Christmas gifts and baby quilts.

We have a young couple from church who are adopting and I told her that I would make her a baby quilt when they received a child. Well, they are adopting brothers who are 8 months, 2 yrs and 3 yrs. My list just tripled! We also have a new grandson on the way so I'm trying to get his quilt done before he arrives.

Its October already! You have 2 1/2 months to get your Christmas projects finished! What have you got on your list? Reformation Sunday at our church is October 27 and time for our Arts and Crafts sale! I need to finish up a few projects and gift items to sell. Fall themed ones. A few more zippered bags, box bags, pot holders, kitchen boas, kitchen towels and more. Time to use it up. Carol
