Ugh. May has been a freaking disaster. Sorry I've been MIA.

Brief update on the UFO list:

2019 UFO/Project List

3. Master Bedroom Quilt
5. Mariner's Compass Quilt
6. Abby Baby Quilt
7. Guest Bedroom Shade
9. OBW Quilt
11. Sweater!

Completed in January:
1. Master Bath Curtain
2. Charity Quilt
4. Dog Quilts

Completed in February:
10. Charity Quilt #2

Completed in March:
8. Office Shade

Completed in May:
12. Charity Quilt #3

I started the baby quilt for Abby, who is due to arrive in 2 weeks, so I need to get a move on. The Guest Bedroom shade is still hanging out there half done. I'll finish that after the Abby quilt. And due to all of my work travel the front of the sweater is just about finished.

I will probably quilt this at the LQS on the long arm and use a pantograph. Just want to get it over with. But not heading toward piecing the back just yet. When I put it away, I found another languishing UFO from probably 2011. Pattern came out of QUILT Magazine which no longer exists I think. Flowers in the Park was the name and so I dragged that out and looking it over. The fabrics for it were some that I fell in love with when I first started quilting so I'm pretty sure that would be 2011, the first year I was into it and took a class at a retreat using this fabric. So its time to finish her up. I've googled it and the author but nothing comes up. Someone on Ebay is selling the pattern from a mag. Do people do that? I could get rich selling old magazines if someone would buy one. This UFO has very large pieces so wont take long to complete. However, I think I have an error in the directions. There is a border not mentioned anywhere so will have to improvise. Carol

Good job on getting the top pieced Carol! The colors are wonderful. The quilting will blend in and choosing a less dense free motion design may help you to work in and around the problem areas.

I did it! I finished the main portion of the Rippled Top. New name for it as it has alot of lumps and bumps. Lesson here, when you are a novice quilter, dont take on a project like this. I would do so much better now but it is done. I'm thinking that I will use the remaining fabric to piece a backing rather than make a bigger top. Right now it is about 70" square which is plenty big enough.. And I have a 3 1/2 yd piece for the next rows and several other pieces and strips that can me made into a back.. But not today. Letting it simmer for a while.

I vow to finish the main middle section today. Then on to steps 10 to 12. I have decided to rip out the wrong section on one of the blocks before i sew it together. Will be easier to do when it is smaller. Carol

Thanks Amy. Maybe I should see what the corrections are. I have persevered and I have the 8 larger blocks that surround the center block done and almost done with the center block. This thing is going to get donated somewhere. I might stop at 60 by 80 and give it to the church. Since it has been so long working on it, I had to retrieve some additional fabric to go with just in case. Finished it is supposed to be 90 by 100.
I was interested in one of her newer patterns but when I saw who the designer was, nixed that idea. CArol

Oh boy--I just googled this pattern and found that there are corrections

If you are not too deep into the quilt, you might just consider using what you have made to design something else. A group of blocks could even be used as a strip in backing. You could put already cut pieces into your scrap saver system. If things are really out of kilter and would cause too much frustration to fix, I have found that doing this just helps you move on. I did this with some of my very early projects. Sometimes it is not worth investing more time and supplies on something that just doesn't bring you joy. For the missing parts, I see that some of the blocks are 10.5 inches unfinished. You could easily substitute in a different block of your choice. But really if it is as bad as you imply, the best thing to do might be to recycle the parts! I feel guilty for doing this for a little while, but then I am happy I did it as it no longer haunts me as an unfinished project!

So, since my cutting table was fairly clean, I decided to drag out Ripples and Reflections. OMG. I am missing instructions for months 3 and 4. I am missing some blocks so dont know if I made them or not. I found a mistake in one block where 3 squares are supposed to line up so I took that apart and fixed it. Then I saw that I had done the same thing in the same square. Leaving it as I am sick of this project. 6 years ago I was a novice quilter. My seams are going every which way, my blocks aren't square and there is nothing in the directions to tell me what size they are supposed to be. Since I'm missing some blocks, I have to look at the picture, find the fabric and hopefully have enough to cut out a duplicate piece. This quilt is 90% HST. What was I thinking. Since everything is on the bias, stretching it into submission. At least I'm accomplished now so I can figure out how to make a substitute piece. And I found a batik that I can use for parts of it. Pressing on but tearing out my hair. Think I'll take a break. Carol

I've decided I am not starting any new quilts until I finish up the old ones.
Ripples and Reflections - You've heard me talk about this forever. Time to finish it.
Boomerang - Started last year, need to sew it together
Butterfly Sampler - last year's block swap at guild. Just need to get it finished up and quilted.
Mocha Swirls - need to finish quilting it on my Viking

I have many tops needing to be quilted. Now that I have taken the class at the LQS on the Longarm, maybe I should take a couple over there and quilt them up. Start with some smaller ones. I learned the FMQ and pantagraphs so could do those.

I still need to try out my new needles in Platypus. Putting it off. Carol

While I was awake from 3:00 to 5:00 am this morning, I lined up lots of sewing for the day. I was productive yesterday, making 2 small zip bags, one pillow, one tote bag, and 2 kitchen boas for the church. Those zip bags reallly went quickly and I want to make more. One of our members gave me a bag of assorted zippers so I am color coordinating the bags to them. Carol

I took the pillow I made with starfish to the church and one of our quilter's bought it. Then they loved the scripture potholder I took. I wasn't happy with how it turned out so will make the others bigger and with insulbright for a true potholder. I also want to make a tote bag for our VBS teacher. Carol

Some of the quotes are scripture and some are just ones we know like, "she thought she could so she did!" The squares are about 6.5" and they would make great mug rugs or potholders as gifts. What successful woman wouldn't want a gift like this? I"ll be making them for the church for our octoberfest. Carol

Carol--It looks nice hanging there and very easy to make. Sometimes those simple ideas sell fabrics very well. Congrats on showing your sample!

I took the wall hanging to the LQS where it is proudly hanging on the wall next to the cutting counter. They also put the fabric next to it so maybe they will be able to sell it now. I always get the fabric that no one else wants. Carol

I have finished the tartan items for a couple of clients and now concentrating on the Buchanan tartan items (my clan) to be done by June 14th. I am taking some rosettes to make on our trip -- if I feel like it. But my goal is to relax and enjoy. No quilts done or worked on this month.

Still working on April challenges - Bonnie's mystery - Good Fortune, as well as a UFO - wall hanging/quilt for my son's office (he works from home) which is a photo album of all the family (and frankly, I'm scared of transferring the pix!) However, I am currently distracted by the need to put borders on my Tobacco Road and adding borders to my Grannie's Scrapbag Quilt (as well as finishing my Grand Illusion quilt.

1. Good Fortune (new and ready for third step)
2. Son's Family Album
3. Tobacco Road
4. Grannie's Scrap Bag
5. Grand Illusions

I am not sure any of the quilts I am working on count as UFO's but more WIP (works in progress) as I have been actively working on these quilts continuously.

But I will work on:

1. BOM
2. New Sundial (Judy Niemeyer)
3. Work on flower applique from Judy Niemeyer Diamond Wedding Ring.
4. David's Hawaiian shirt quilt.
