Bev--it will be a beauty when it is done. Can't wait to see it!

Carol--I don't plan on starting something new...but as you know I usually cave in to be a part of challenges!

I have more than enough to work on at the moment and I might not sew much until next Fall. I do want to take classes for the machine that I bought just before dad died (still have to do that, but I'm waiting for good weather and time that I can dedicate to learning it). It will probably be the next time the series is offered. I will also join their Bernina club too as I get a free year.

I had to unpick at least five blocks that I had tried to quilt on platypus and the thread kept breaking. So today, I sat at my Viking with the FMQ and quilted it with rulers. Going well and using a variegated thread I couldn't use on Platypus. Carol

I went to yoga yesterday and it was great. However, a bit of nausea went with me. Was afraid to bend over so the instructor had us do everything laying on our backs. Be happy when this nausea lifts. Felt good all day. I need to get off of here and go to the exercise at 10:00/ Carol

I took the quilt to the LQS yesterday and got some help. I've done most of the tasks suggested. I bought a new pack of needles but didn't see but one size. I'm thinking, because of the batiks, I will quilt this on my Viking instead. Too much trauma and I need to get something out that I can practice on with Platypus to make sure she still loves me. I have to use a bigger needle with batiks to keep the thread from shredding.

I remeasured my sashing blue and think I will have enough to make the full size quilt. So had to make some more HSTs and 2 more blocks.

I had a fit trying to get Platypus to cooperate to quilt mocha swirls. Finally gave up and will put it aside to find another way. I hope I have the tension right now but it is so frustrating. Had to pick it all out, what I did. I'm thinking Platypus did not like the batiks I used. CArol

I think it looks done now without the extra borders. Making it a little bigger still would not make it into a bed quilt. I think it is a fair price. You have used quality fabric and the colors are very versatile.

Thanks Bev, leaving it. And I have a few extra blocks so I'm going to make a large toss pillow and try to sell this on Etsy. Trouble is, I want too much money. But I think I should keep my prices high so I dont have to raise them. The quilt, $250 but might be too much. When you think about what went into it, its not too much. Carol

Since I have more of the paisley fabric, I was thinking of adding another 3/4" finished strip and then another 4" border paisley strip. Would make the quilt about 62 by 70. What do you think. Would be an interesting look. Carol

The top is done and finished at 52 by 59 which is a decent lap quilt. Could have done more blocks to make it bigger but got tired of it. Turned out well! Now to quilt it. Thanks for the journey and the challenge. The small brown border was 3 strips of a batik that Bev sent me, 2 1/2" wide. I cut them in half lengthwise and sewed them to gether to finish at 3/4" in the quilt. The brown was needed. I could add another row of piano keys or 2 1/2" squares. What do you think? Carol

So I had 25 blocks that worked in the quilt and trimmed them all up and sewed them together. But the quilt isn't going to be very big and I had run out of backgrounds. So I took the BGs I had to the LQS and found 5 one quarter yard pieces and a fat quarter I felt would work to blend in with what I had made to make more blocks. Oh, pooh, more blocks. I needed the black batiks that I still had but I had put them away somewhere. I searched and searched, retracing my steps and just couldn't find them. So I took a nap. Then I looked in one last bag when I got up and there they were. So I plan to make 10 more to make a bigger quilt. Found a black batik I can use for a small border with my bigger border. Will be glad to get this done. If it hadn't been with this group, not sure where I would be on this. I didn't pick a very fun pattern but it will be striking and I will get this finished prior to March 15. Carol

Yep, progress. I really thought I'd have a top but no. I think I made the mistake of not making blocks with mostly blacks as the other colors I used didn't go with the border. But it will be two quilts eventually. Carol

I finished all the blocks but only half of them go with the border I want to use. So I'll be making two smaller quilts. Now I need a brown batik for an inner border before I can finish. Not sure I have any. I will finish one quilt for this challenge, a small lap quilt. Might be a donation. Carol

I am so pleased that we hooked onto this challenge! The pattern I selected was more tedious than I thought. Almost finished with the center portion. I am lacking 2 blocks for 35 but I'm thinking of cutting squares out of the border fabric for each corner and nixing the blocks I dont care for. We shall see. I want a done top today. Carol

I like that pattern Carrie! I have tons of 2 1/2" squares. Could easily duplicate it. Once I get my samples donated, all of the quilt books are coming in to sit by my computer on the shelf I had samples on. It will clean up the living room bookcase. I'll be working on my project tomorrow and hopefully finishing it up. Carol

Well, I finally got a picture of the book .

and the quilt pattern..."Forties FourSquare" I chose this pattern because I needed something that had a lot of squares.

I have finished the top and made the backing and binding. I need to quilt it. I will get a picture when I am done.

How is everyone doing? I know Amy is done and Jullie might be done. Bev and I are working on ours. March 15 is the time to finish! Top only, not necessary to have the quilt quilted. Maybe, if I can finish it this weekend at retreat, I can take it to the long arm on March 5. I already have a plan for the next stash item to challenge us with. Due at the end of June! Carol

I'm done with the wall hanging. We will hang it this weekend. I do love it in spite of not liking to make it. I used fusible fleece for the batting and I will do that again.

Guild is having a 2 day retreat, March 2 and 3. I think I will be working on the stash quilt blocks as the first thing I start with. I could knock them out and finish that thing up. Whose idea was that anyway? Ripples and Reflections might even come out in view as well. Carol

Amy, you are quick! Deciding how to quilt has always been my problem. I think that is one reason I have so many UFO tops. Even when I know what I want to do, I struggle with repeating patterns consistently from top to bottom.

Well, it is quilted now...not at all like I thought I would. I quilted the whole thing in a very soft pale pastel variegated thread. Originally, I was going to quilt the white in white. I was also going to do some grid quilting, but the center grid would have been different than the framing grid and I was afraid the two would compete. There are larger open areas and small areas of white. Because of the small areas, I would have had to densely quilt all of it and I really didn't want to do that. I ended up just using a bigger meander over the whole thing. It really needed to be evenly quilted in order to have any hope of hanging without wavy borders. This quilt had all those on point edges which love to wave--even when they lay reasonably flat before quilting! The hanging sleeve and binding will be next and then I will know how I really like it.

Quilting is not required to be finished. I'm aiming for a finished top. The hop starts today and I just read one of the blogs for today. The first had string piecing included. Check them out. I just perused through all of them and it was fun to visit other blogs. Most had just a simple project, unlike me who has to make a whole large quilt. Carol
