Slimnana: Love your new pic! Love your story about how you got the pic even better!! emoticon

Elizabeth: How's the pedometer contest going? Have you recovered from your vacation yet?

Dee: Welcome back! Looks like you're doing great getting back to the Beach.

Ladubose: Sounds like you had a great vacation after the rough start. How's the neck/shoulders?

Kathryn: Are you in Georgia yet?

Guess what? I'm on Phase 1. Guess why? You betcha. Caved into those stupid chocolate bunnies and Jelly Bellies (and rolls, deviled eggs, cheese & crackers, the list goes on ad nauseum). Well, darn.

Doing well today though no exercise. My ear is still aching...think I've got swimmer's ear. I've had difficulty sleeping because of it which has amplified my appetite. No excuses. I made an appointment to see the doc...April 15th was the earliest they could see me. Sigh. I'm also going through the process of replacing all my ID's and card that I lost with my wallet. Double sigh. Snicker. What an idiot I am!

I'm subbing for a co-worker for two classes tonight and have a parents meeting as well. I'm also waiting for a call back from the high school about two letter we sent to the principal. Did I tell you about how we received a letter from the high school stating that #2DD was a truant? The days she was missing were the days she was in South Carolina and Idaho for gymnastics meets. We had given the school letters more than a week prior to each trip and DD had gone to each teacher for a assignments and signatures prior to each trip and even finished most of the assignments before going on the trip. After returning, she completed all quizzes and tests that were missed within a week. She's got a 4.5 GPA (she takes honors and AP courses) and has taken no sick days. We called the attendance office to see if this was a mistake and they said it was policy to send these letters to all students with unexcused absences. The office worker said that the only excused absences were sick, medical/dental appointments, and religious holidays in accordance with the education code. DH and I read the code and it can be interpreted to include more than the above. We sent a letter to the principal the next day after receiving the truancy letter. No response. We sent another letter with the first letter as an enclosure asking for a meeting with the principal. No response for more than a week. We went to the school board meeting where DH spoke for the 3 minutes allowed during open forum. Come to find out, the school board contracted a subcontractor to send these letters out and is having difficulties with their interpretation of the education code. The topic is on their next meeting agenda. DH and I plan on going back for that meeting as well. We had hoped that the high school principal would have been contacted and persuaded to contact us, but so far, nada. Not happy with the high school right now.

Sorry about the rant/rave. I like the idea of starting a new thread. Maybe we can call it "Spring Cleaning at the Beach" or "Swing into Spring" or ... well you get the idea. Hee hee!

What a beautiful Monday! I walked to work and didn’t want to go in!
We had thunderstorms last night, but Josh still managed to grill some jerk chicken outside in between the showers. This was the first time he was able to use the grill outside so it is always exciting! We had a pretty nice weekend…dinner with friends at an Italian small plate restaurant on Friday (I made great choices and only had 1 bite of the pizza and then covered my plate with my napkin!) Saturday we went shopping for a new shirt and tie for Josh for the wedding next weekend and then walked home (only 1.5 miles) and then I finally saw Avatar that night! It was amazing! I did eat several handfuls of popcorn that Josh had gotten – which is unusual because I can’t ever remember him getting popcorn before – either way a great movie. Sunday was pretty calm (our friends didn’t come over for brunch) and we just had our veggie breakfast and then the jerk chicken for dinner. The downside – the only exercise I got done was the walking home from shopping. Not enough.

Today was weigh in and measurements…my measurements really shocked me today! I am at the same point I was pre-Jamaica (and we have only been home 1 week!) I shouldn’t be doubting this as my pants still fit good! I think I maybe 1-2 pounds still over but I can’t really tell because of my water weight fluctuations. I have 4 good news things for this Monday: (1) It is a beautiful day (2) My measurements are the same as pre-Jamaica (3) I saw buds and tiny leaves on some of the smaller trees and (4) I get to see my mom on Friday for my cousin’s wedding! I am very thankful today and I hope everyone else can have a great day too!

Slimnana – Yea for the laundry room being so close to being completed! I second Ladubose’s advice – just keep focusing forward and don’t let yourself get down because of your splurges over the holiday.

Kathryn – Enjoy your time – I am wishing you safe journeys! I have found that with healthy eating it is easier to stay on track when you aren’t exercising daily. I am glad that you have survived the past 2 weeks.

Ladubose – I think you did great at the Easter brunch! In past that could have been you with 3 desserts on your plate! I am proud that you were able to eat until satisfied and not over stuffed! I think that being in phase 2/3 you don’t always have to eat beachy but you just need to be aware of the amounts and portions of the food that isn’t exactly beachy. If we never left the house we could be 100% beachy but like Kathryn said earlier, “I don't like distractions, but I guess that's just life” – so be proud of yourself!

Elizabeth :)

LADUBOSE: That's great news that you are recovering from your whiplash and were still able to enjoy most of the physical activities with your family while on vacation over Spring Break.

I had to laugh at your comment about my new photo. lol! I was Hot, as in so over heated my face was red from having just finished overeating that decadent french toast casserole at brunch and then wrestling those two wild rascals onto my lap to try and get them to hold still for half a second to take the photo. When I first got up from the table, I was actually breaking out in a sweat and feeling dizzy from consuming so much sugar at once that I thought I was going to pass out.

Lesson learned the hard way once again. Thanks for your encouraging words to focus forward & get back on track. I'm going to need at least a few days of Phase 1 to detox from that sugar binge for sure. I'm expecting that I'll get that dreaded headache in a day or so as my sugar rebalances.

Well Easter was wonderfully over the top for the girls. Their great-grandmother is the very definition of a Southern Genteel Woman and she put on the sweetest party ever for little kids. It was every children's dream of what Easter should be like. We also went to brunch at the Country Club and there were plenty of Easter Eggs to be found around the house as well. I did really well at the brunch, although not necessarily beachy, but ate until satisfied not full, didn't over indulge at all, had one bite of my daughters decadent chocolate cake and one bite of my SL's deserts as well (she had 3 different desserts on her plate!! which could have tipped the calorie budget up to 3,550 calories YIKES) So felt in control with the food, it wasn't even an internal struggle! Still not eating as healthy as I normally do and certainly drinking WAY more than I normally do, so looking forward to going back to P1 with my friend in Colorado after this week!

I just entered in all my activities from my ski trip, and although I really wish I had not wrecked my car at all, the timing was fortunate in a way, as I don't have to teach for 2 weeks which is a very good thing and I wasn't planned for lifting, so I don't feel like I am getting to far behind. Lots of fun skiing, snow shoeing and X-country with my family last week and then Friday my neck was all jacked up so I took, Friday(packing cleaning), Saturday (travel) Sunday (Easter) off. My neck has setteled back down a little so I decided to take an easy jog today. just under 3 miles. at a slow pace. I brought some KB tapes but thinking that throwing punches might not be a good idea yet so might stick with running and the elliptical instead.

Slimnanna: I love the new Pic! You look HOT! Don't worry about your face plant into decadence, you can't change that now, what you can do is focus forward and get back on track!

Kathryn: it is beautiful here, and thankfully no mesquites yet, but it is hot, not to humid yet though, well for GA anyway.

Happy Monday after Easter!

It was so good to hear from you all over the weekend! I hope you had a joyous day celebrating Easter with your families and didn't overindulge too much like I did. My daughter in-law made a french toast casserole/bread pudding with pecan praline topping recipe by Paula Dean that should be banned for exceeding all healthy dietary limits. Needless to say I caved face first into it at brunch and it resulted in my scale being up a couple pounds this morning.

Good thing I have the next two weeks to recover from my relapse before my birthday and wedding anniversary. So today is the start of at least a week of Phase 1 for me.

I'm grandkidless today, so I have no excuse not to do some cardio to help get me back on track also.

Have a good day all!

Happy Easter Beach Babes! emoticon

I've missed you! But as you probably figured, I've been crazy busy. Overall I've done pretty good eating "beachy", except for today. Ugh! Although it was a planned day, I really really don't want to step on the scale tomorrow morning, but I will.

I've been scanning the thread and it looks like everyone has been doing good. ELIZABETH, it sounds like you did really well in Jamaica and had a great time! MONYEE, I wish I was going to be in town this next weekend. I really hope we get the chance to try again.

SLIMNANA -- How's it going with the grandkids? Hope your staying healthy and putting yourself first.

ROSE -- I got my book and started to read it the other day -- just a bit. Deep stuff. So much to think about and ponder. I'll plan to read it on the plane Tuesday.

Tomorrow I will spend the day eating P1 and packing for my trip to Georgia. I fly out on Tuesday. I'll be visiting DD3.

These past two weeks have been a real challenge to eat totally beachy, but I've done pretty darn good. Even lost a few pounds. Today is the only day that I'm concerned about.

Daily exercise has been a challenge as well. Thank heaven that I've been doing relatively active stuff, but I really really need to get back to my daily routine.

After this trip, I should be able to refocus into the Summer. I don't like distractions, but I guess that's just life.

Anyway, I wanted to pop in and let you all know that I'm still alive and still plugging along.

LADUBOSE -- I'm not looking forward to the weather in Georgia. I hate humidity and mosquitos! LOL

Day 2 and 3 went so-so. Got my veggies/salads and protein in. A little too many carbs still but I'm working on it, that ice cream is a downfall for sure.

HAPPY EASTER, BEACH BEAUTIES!!!

Okay, why am I not at Easter Mass? Well, I LOVE Easter Mass, but my cough is still nasty sounding and I really don't like coughing on my fellow parishioners. I actually got worse since I last posted. THREE weeks of this, folks! Going to REST all day....full week ahead. Trying to take my own advice and build up my immune system before exposing myself to more germs all next week emoticon Pretty sure I had the flu....some say it was the H1N1 and even with the vaccine, I still got it? Once again proving that vaccines don't always guarantee one will not get this stuff.
Feel much better today......DH is flying home from Denver and my DD will be home later today from Boston. Did one short walk 3 days ago and that plum wore me out emoticon Will wait another 2 days before beginning my gym time again. Looking forward to that!
Dee emoticon Great to see you again!!! Great start for you!
Kathryn emoticon Hope you are doing well, girl!!!
Ladubose emoticon Hope you are doing well!!! You KNOW how we worry when you don't post emoticon But I know you have those Angels watching over you!
Elizabeth - I like that...keeping peace with food. Amen!
Monyee - Hope you have an awesome Easter!
Slimnana - YEA for the finished product!! We need pics! We begin our bathroom renovation in May, I think. Will take about 8 weeks...we are doing all the fun stuff like choosing tile, bathtub, hardware....going to completely gut the room. I love our builders, though....so professional and they had like, hundreds of great references. Expensive emoticon , but that is fine by us if we get the spa bathroom we want! I will post pics once it is all done this summer!
Okay, back to work from home...I am SO behind with my work!
Blessed Easter to all!!!!
Peace,
Rose

Happy emoticon Weekend!

Dee emoticon emoticon while cleaning out your fridge!

Elizabeth emoticon attitude and self control!

How's things going with everyone else emoticon emoticon

It went from Spring to Summer here yesterday with a temp. of 85. I am so not ready for going sleeveless or wearing shorts yet. After Easter I am doing at least a week of P1 to get my cravings back under control and break this plateau I've been on for the last month. Cutting out the wine with dinner is the hardest part of P1 for me, but I think it makes all the difference in my self control resisting bread.

The update on my laundry room is hubby finished the tiles, and the new washer & dryer were delivered yesterday for installation next week.

Take care all and enjoy your weekend!

Happy Friday Everyone!
Dinner Wednesday night went good…no alcohol or bread and I left dessert on my plate! Thursday, I was really dragging! Managed to get my treadmill time in and I felt a little better when I met my friend for lunch – fruit, scrambled eggs with veggies and tomato juice (no cheese or carbs.) Today, I got called into my part time job early so I didn’t get my walk in but will walk home from work at least. We are having friends over for brunch on Sunday for egg foo young and stewed cabbage – my friend asked what she could bring and I told her fruit!. Saturday is my cardio day on my day off, I was thinking it would be nice enough to run/walk outside but it is supposed to rain. So I guess it will be the treadmill at the gym again after I eat my almonds and apple.

Monyee – We really had tons of fun in Jamaica. I need to be very proud of myself! My new jeans still fit! Normally post vacation I be considerably heavier (+10-12 pounds), but not this time and I think I can do even better next time too! I really want to go back tomorrow!!!! I keep keeping closer and closer to being at peace with food. I still feel some panic when thinking about eating out, but I get better each time I go out and make healthy choices. It is all day pedometer tracking. So I think I have a pretty good chance in the competition, I just don’t know how much the nurses actually walk during their shifts – they could still beat me just by working their 12 hour shifts. I love the description of your April’s fools outfit. The leg of lamb sounds really good…it isn’t something I have ever had, good thing you are too far away from Chicago or we would crash your Easter dinner - lol.

Slimnana – Glad you got to get out of the house for a nice walk with the stroller yesterday! Hopefully your DH will have all the tile work finally done before Easter!

Dee – Just keep making small changes, you don’t have to go full out phase 1 – every small change can help. Like changing from products containing hidden sugar to those that are less processed.

emoticon Dee. Welcome back to the team. Best wishes with the sale of your house and relocation to Georgia. There are a few of us still posting here from the beginning of the year. It's just a bit on the quiet side this week.

I'm wondering if maybe we should start a new 3 month thread after Easter to take us to the 4th of July, since we're no longer "Ringing in the New Year".
emoticon emoticon

Monyee emoticon at your April Fool's outfit. I hope you had a blast with the kids today. I noticed you reached 50 lbs. lost!!!

I'm off to bed early to watch "Flash Forward" and get some much needed rest after another full day of babysitting.I did enjoy the chance to take him on a nice 2 mile walk today in his stroller on a beautiful spring day in the 70's.

Have a good night all!

Hi Everyone, I've been MIA (hanging head emoticon ) from here as I fell off the SB train and have yet to get back on it. We've been in the process of getting our house ready to go on the market. It's been a long and grueling process. I still can't believe how much stuff we have accumulated in the 15 years we have lived here. It's been tough as it's just been my ds and I as dd is away at college and dh works and lives in Georgia, which is where we hope to be headed soon. (fingers crossed) I've been doing good with my exercising but the eating has just been all over the place. I need to get back to SB so I can continue on my journey to a healthier and longer life.

Friday, April 2nd - Beginning emoticon Again!

I will have to read the messages so I can catch up with how you all are doing. Have a GREAT DAY!

Slimnana: You can make it to 155 lbs by Easter!!

Elizabeth: You're back! I'm selfishly happy that you have returned, girlfriend! Sounds like you had a fantastic time and stayed reasonable as far as nutrition and fitness! Woo hoo! The 4 lbs will melt off quickly now that you're back to eating right and exercising. Do you wear the pedometer at work only or is it an all day thing? If it's all day, you'll kick bootie with all the walking you do! It was great having #1DD home though I didn't see her much. She spent a lot of time with her boyfriend's family, helping out after the grandmother had a stroke.

Rose: Your Easter sounds relaxing. Now that my kids are older (14, 16, 18) we don't do the egg hunt stuff, but they still expect Easter baskets! LOL! I have to stay away from chocolate of all kinds. It starts up cravings like you wouldn't believe! Sigh. I really like those Lindt truffles...

Ladubose: Where the heck are ya? I hope that whiplash hasn't incapacitated you!!

Did an hour workout...combination of treadmill and elliptical...early this morning. I may do another walk early this afternoon.

Easter is usually ham and Leg of Lamb at our house. I roast the lamb with slivers of garlic stuck in all over then rubbed with herbs and flour. I may grill some veggies, prep a fruit salad, and make roasted potatoes (red and sweet). The fruit salad will be our dessert.

It's April Fool's Day so I've got to dress "Wacky Tacky" at the gym. I plan to be a tourist named April Showers complete with large orange hat with massive paper flower, flowered socks, Aloha shirt, fanny pack, camera, sunglasses, sunblock on nose, and flowered slippers. Anything to make the kids laugh! Have a great Beachin' Day!

emoticon back Elizabeth. Glad to see you had fun in Jamaica and didn't go too overboard. Now that your home and back on track again, you will drop those few pounds you regained in no time.

It looks like everyone is busy with Spring break and Easter week. I hope you are all well and check back in again soon.

My husband is on vacation the rest of the week and is finishing up the grout on the tiles today. The master of procrastination that he is. I'm babysitting the little guy today, who I hear is waking up from his morning nap, so I'll check back later.

Take care!

Happy Wednesday, Beach Beauties!

WELCOME BACK, Elizabeth emoticon Overall, it sounds like you did quite well on your trip! And more importantly, it sounded like FUN!! emoticon

Still healing from the bug....every day, just a little more. Would be most helpful if I didn't cough so much!!! Bleh! But that is improving, too. Back to work and BUSY...patients being very sweet as I sound awful, but I really do feel better. After talking all day, I lose my voice!
Saw my great podiatrist this week and he injected my foot! Wow...he did it correctly, and I did not faint! It hurt, but it worked, too! Love being pain-free. He said I have "bad" feet, but nothing some more EXPENSIVE orthotics will help with! I said, GIVE ME EVERYTHING that will help my feet! I have to go back for two more injections which aid in faster healing for the neuroma. He also said I could keep working out....which made me SO happy, but I will still respect the pain and try not to do too much as far as pounding my feet. I will have to give up many of my "professional work shoes"....and go strictly for comfort. No problem....penance for all those years I wore my very high-heels walking all over Boston emoticon
Monyee - BY MYSELF, I will have some chicken with some veggies for my little Easter dinner. May go to Whole Foods and get something special. Will allow myself a piece of dark chocolate. You know, I used to hate dark chocolate...and, now, I LOVE it! Much better for you, of course. I am even up to the 85% dark chocolate. Just read today all the benefits it can do for blood pressure along with heart. I find myself craving sweets a lot less, but may have to give that to the fact I have been sick for going on 3 weeks. emoticon I hear you on those workouts. I will ease into them JUST as soon as I stop coughing so much. I even annoy myself at this point!
Have a wonderful Wednesday, BBs...I need to get back to work from home before heading to work from work.
Peace,
Rose

Hello Ladies!
Our vacation time went so quickly, it seems like we just left! I will have to post some pictures to my spark page once I get them off the camera and onto the computer. Josh and I had a complete blast (some wicked vibes mon!) It is always so hard to leave and Josh even gets very ill on the morning of our departure. We didn’t do any specific “tourist activities” this year except spending a few days just hanging out at the beach. I don’t really know where our time goes…we did spend one whole morning at the bank and tax office – yuck – even I lost my cool, asking the bank lady, “Do you even want our business?” I couldn’t believe how long the lines were – so different from banking here in the states!

I can’t explain how different my eating was this year compared to the previous 2 years. The easiest change seemed to be limiting my alcohol intake. One night I had Tia Maria on the rocks and then on Thursday night I had 2 vodka sodas. I was quite upset when I learned that no one was serving me diet soda even though I was asking for it…so I switched to just ordering bottled water when we were at the clubs and then adding Nuun fizzy tablets to the bottle.
Josh’s mom got into the spirit of serving me more veggies including tomatoes and lettuce and whenever we ate lunch out I asked for double veggies instead of the starch side dish. It got to be fun to just say, “Extra Veg please.” We did a great job of staying hydrated! We bought 2 cases of bottled water and this alone helped me feel so much better.

I didn’t jump rope in the mornings because every morning I woke up my feet hurt and were so swollen I didn’t want to put on my tennis shoes. I think most of my “exercise” came from dancing every night at the different clubs.
It wasn’t a perfect time…I completely over ate for breakfast Friday morning…Josh’s mom outdid herself and I just ate the huge portion she had given me that included both yellow and sweet yams, something called dashine and coco! That was 4 pieces of starchy vegetables! But wow, what a great meal!
There is room for improvement such as eating drum jerk chicken with 2 festivals (fried dough) two mornings in a row. I ate too many patties when we drove to Kingston. I ate ice cream 3 nights instead of just one night. I ate rum fudge : ) Really, I could keep going on like this with every tiny little thing I could’ve done better but I just started getting depressed just now thinking about it. So onward instead! All my splurges were smaller portions and less frequent than previous years! I got on the scale yesterday and I was 157 which means I gained about 3-4 pounds in 12 days. This means I am still in the 150’s! I went to the gym yesterday and did my 2 minutes run/walk routine for 40 minutes and felt like I was back on track! I also walked 2 miles back and forth to get my bridesmaid dress altered so it will be ready for the wedding in less than 2 wks! Ladubose I can’t thank you enough for helping me change my thinking regarding exercise…I still work to focus on how great I will feel afterwards versus how much I dread going. Yesterday, I felt great and I have kind of missed the treadmill – wow! I really did miss all my walking; there just aren’t enough safe sidewalks for me to be out wandering on in Montego Bay.

If Monyee is walking 11 miles and Kathryn is at Sea World it seems like everything is full speed ahead still – Ladubose – so thankful that you are safe after your accident!

Monyee – I am entered in the pedometer contest at work for the next month. They gave us free pedometers (cheap ones that just count your steps) but I am excited to see how I do compared to some of the nurses. You would kick my butt in the contest with your 11 mile walk! I hope you enjoyed having your daughter home for spring break!

Kathryn – Glad your CAT scan results came back normal!!!

Today is Wednesday so I am going to go pump some iron at the gym. I am having dinner with 2 of my co-workers tonight at our same 4th Wednesday of the month restaurant. Neither of these 2 women like to share food/dessert so I might just have coffee and beg off that I am too full for dessert. I can plan to do that until I read the menu and then everything flies out the window. The best intentions of mice and men...well thank goodness that I have you guys to give me great advice and support!! I guess I just need to visualize myself not choosing to eat the dessert a little more frequently versus my current self-fullfilling prophecy of thinking I will give in to unhealthy "mouth pleasing" options.

I'm either going to make a lean ham or roast pork for Easter dinner.
emoticon emoticon

The scales back down a pound after only a day doing Phase 1. I want to try and get to 155 by Easter as I had planned.

The painter & the older three grandkids will be here any minute, so I have to hurry and finish my breakfast.

I Hope all is going well for everyone else! I miss hearing from you. I'll check back with you all later tonight.

Biked over 12 miles. I even biked up a long steep hill without getting off the bike and walking. emoticon

We made the Honey Mustard Roast Chicken...delicious! I only ate a few carrots and 1/2 a small red potato. I ate a spinach salad as my veggies. Tomorrow...flank steak marinated in red wine & herbs with roasted veggies and some kind of whole grain side dish.

What's everyone's plan for Easter dinner? Suggestions to make a Beachy dinner?

Slimnana: Maybe we all should do Phase 1 in preparation for Easter Sunday! LOL! Those chocolate bunnies attack me every year...

Swam an hour this morning. Less rest stops on the side. I feel like I'm actually working instead of surviving. LOL! Going for a bike ride this morning. post more later...

LADUBOSE emoticon to you and your daughter. Please take care to rest and recover from your injury over Spring Break.

ROSE emoticon take it easy as you regain your energy back from your recent illness.

MONYEE emoticon 190 here you come for a total of 50 lbs. lost already! No wonder with you walking 11 miles yesterday and burning over 1,000 calories!

KATHRYN emoticon emoticon must have been fun. Can't wait to hear about your weekend.

I'm up a couple of pounds myself after splurging this weekend on pizza friday, cake Saturday & a bagel Sunday. Looks like I'll need at least a few days of Phase 1 this week before Easter weekend.

Gotta run, the little guy is at my front door.

Rose: When I started my journey, I couldn't imagine 'missing my workouts'. Look at you! I hope you feel better soon. Remember to start slowly and build when getting back into your fitness routine. NO RELAPSES!

I walked over 11 miles today. Woo hoo! Burned over a thousand calories, can you believe it? I feel pretty darn good, too, though a little hungry. I may eat something more tonight since I've only eaten to the lower end of my range.

Tomorrow is weigh-in. If it's yours, too, I'm hoping the scale is kind to us all!

Happy Sunday, Beach Beauties!

OMG, Ladubose emoticon I just about cried!!! THANK GOD, you and Eliza are alright! I am assuming you have 4-wheel drive, although I know no matter if you have that, not much works on ice. Bless your heart! If I may (like you have a choice emoticon ) I do not think you should be working out for a few more days, especially with any kind of neck or back strain!!! You may have suffered a hernitation, etc, and skiing would not be good for that..especially if you fall. Just my 2 cents worth and only because I love you.. emoticon Those Angels you have definitely have your back, girl..and the other parts of you emoticon

This is two weeks, now, and I am STILL healing..since I last posted, I still had days of fever and incredible fatigue. Worked two shorter days and those always wore me out. Man, I am SO behind at work, but feel, today, I can do some catch up time.... Still not much appetite, but it ain't like I am going to waste away or anything emoticon
Monyee - AWESOME on the bike!! You are such an inspiration!! I so miss working out! Almost two weeks. I need to get to the point where simple chores do not wear me out before I begin some easy workouts! And not coughing so much would be helpful, too!
Kathryn - You truly are doing great, but your post made me smile about not meeting with your sisters! My husband is going to be away next weekend, and my DD in Boston, so I decided I am going to go to Easter Mass on Sunday, and use the weekend for ME time. We usually go to my Mom-in-law's house and although I love her and my husband's family, his SISTERS are not the most fun to hang out with. They can make those little comments that make you realize, wait, I have just been insulted emoticon I would prefer not to go alone there, so I plan to not go. I knew I was doing the right decision, when I felt a sense of relief! I went to a friend's wedding recently and it was her FOURTH wedding and yes, she did all the BIG wedding things. Strange....
Well check in later...I try to do some chores in the morning before I begin to wear down again!
I am sad to be missing Palm Sunday services, but with my immune system down so low, I think I must avoid crowds for now. I get enough exposure through my patients at work... emoticon
Blessings to you all!

Running into mountains, near misses, slipping/sliding down roads...you certainly lead an 'interesting' life! Jiminy Crickets, woman!! Are you using snow chains? Is there anything else you can use to help with the dangerous road conditions? I'm so glad that you and your family came out of that harrowing experience relatively unscathed. Take care of that whip lash and stay out of trouble, OK?! Geez.

the girls and I were in an accident on Friday morning in the canyon on the way to school, no one else was involved, we just hit ice on a corner and slid out, managed to miss the creek, but did a nose dive into the mountain. Everyone is ok, thank god, Eliza and I both have some whip lash and my left hand ring finger and index finger are hurt, it is a good thing I took my rings off immediately as they are now very, very swollen. The officer told me that someone went into the creek at the same spot the day before. This was my first time down the canyon since my near accident on friday. I was really quite in shock yesterday and kept seeing the image of the mountain face coming toward me before impact.

So now I am relaxing at this amazing beautiful house my mom rented, the perfect place to relax and recover, waiting for everyone to arrive. I am bummed about the whip lash but will certainly still ski and I am thankful I don't have to teach for two weeks. I had planned on KB for cardio, but I think that would really irritate my neck/shoulder... so going to do skiing and stretching for this week only.

Slimnana: Thanks so much! I didn't do it by myself though. I was inspired by Ladubose's bazillion fitness minutes, Elizabeth's walking to EVERYWHERE, Rose's pushing through the pain, your non-stop energy, Kierae's no nonsense advice, and Kathryn's positivity. Then locally with my walking, biking and swimming buddies. I'm blessed!!

MONYEE: First of all I need to tell you what an inspiration you are for me to get back to working out regularly again! I loved your latest blog on how far you have come in such a short amount of time.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

It's funny you should ask about how the tile work is going, it's almost noon and he hasn't even started! Instead, he is presently at the barber getting a haircut. This is after getting back from working out this morning. Oh he's pulling in the driveway now, and will probably be looking to eat lunch. That leaves him at the most, the next three hours before the grandkids birthday party begins.

Went for a quick walk before work this morning. It was brisk but it's going to get warm (in the 70's). I felt energetic and walked just under a 4 mph pace with my iPod shuffle keeping me smiling! emoticon Tomorrow, the plan is to either take a long walk or bike ride. emoticon emoticon

Hope you all are having a great weekend! Ladubose...remember to track your nutrition! I miss Elizabeth's posts! When is Kathryn coming back? Slimnana...how's the tile work going? Kierae...are you keeping busier than a one legged man in an @$$ kicking contest?

Ladubose: Thanks for the whey protein advice. There's a health food store near my grocery store where I can check for it. A foot of snow! Geez, Louise! Do you ever get sick of the white stuff by the end of winter? Since you do so many winter sports, you probably love the stuff! It's so great to hear that you are changing your attitude towards food for the better. What a huge breakthrough! I'm still struggling, but am feeling more confidant every day.

Kathryn: 3rd times the charm, as they say. I hope your sister's wedding and marriage are a huge success. Sons/DH's are sure good to have around for those big Costco runs, aren't they? I screwed up the dates of regionals. My daughters compete on the 10th (in the evening) and the 11th (in the morning) of April. Sheesh! It must be old timer's disease!! I have to check the website for the exact times. I'll send you a Sparkmail with my cell phone number and details. As long as you're cleaning and organizing, do you mind coming to my house and doing the same? I really, really, really need it! LOL! I've been wondering about Elizabeth, too. I sure hope she's having the time of her life. You're doing fantastic changing your focus on food. Being comfortable with the process of making those healthy choices is a BIG STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION! That rocks!

Slimnana: Stay healthy and I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your new laundry room/bath!

Having a great day. Swam this morning for more than an hour and didn't use those 'cheater fins' at all! Then came home, took youngest DD to school and biked with a friend for over an hour. We didn't go very fast, grant you, 'cause she's got a cruiser that's slow and heavy, but it was really fun. Working tonight then a walk tomorrow morning before working again. Going for a long walk or bike on Sunday. Weird thing is...I'm actually looking forward to it! That's a big deal for me since I just started to exercise again in February and it has seemed more chore than fun. Right on!

Have a great weekend, Beach Chicks!

Good Friday Morning!

I'm glad to hear you all are doing so well this week handling your personal challenges the best you can. Sounds like the upcoming week with Easter & Spring break approaching, along with house guests arriving will be challenging for quite a few of us.

No bikini for me, just a "skirtini".

Have a joyous weekend all!

Hey! Well... I ended up NOT meeting up with my sisters. And yes, I do feel like a flake. But, it did relieve the stress I was feeling. Sure hope my "prima donna" emoticon older sister doesn't make me pay for this! emoticon This is her 3rd marriage, and I really pray she is making a good choice this time. I want so much for her to be happy. The wedding will be in September. Another good reason to keep focused on losing weight. Not a big motivator, but it helps.

After my son's appointment we hit Costco on the way home. It was nice to have him along -- I like that he can load and unload the car for me! And, he got some jeans and a few shirts out of it for himself. Not a bad deal.

Since I got home I've been doing some cleaning and organizing, so I can enjoy next week.

LADUBOSE -- I know you're right. I'm sure that I'm the only one who really cares if the house is clean. And they would all rather I just kick back and relax. Thing is, IF I don't get on top of things at this point, it gets way too crazy when everyone is around. But I have learned what to do, and what not to do. I'm getting better. I can't believe that you are still getting that kind of snow. But you are in Colorado, right? My cousin that I just met at Disneyland for the first time lives in Colorado. Perhaps some day I will make a trip there.

MONYEE -- Keep me posted on your schedule for next Saturday. I'm really going to work towards seeing you. Did I say congratulations on your weight loss and your new bike? Well emoticon Honestly, I don't know how you do it all.

SLIMNANA -- I'm envious, too -- about your bathroom remodel. There are so many projects that I would like to start here at my home. We've lived in our house over 21 years. So you can just imagine. I've done this and that over the years, but I would really love to do some major stuff. Particularly my kitchen cabinets. That's what I'm pushing for right now. Oh, and are you going to post a picture of YOU in that bikini when you're ready to wear it? emoticon

ROSE -- No, my book as not come yet. I'm hoping it comes today or tomorrow at the latest.

Well, I wonder how ELIZABETH is doing on her Jamaican vacation??? Can't wait to hear all about it.

I'm doing good focusing on my goal of losing weight, while doing so many social activities. I can't say that I have been completely "beachy" (still abt 80%) this week, but I have been very in tune with my body and portions, as well as making the best healthy choices that I can, while being in some uncontrolled situations. I can honestly say that I feel good about how am handling everything. This continues to give me the confidence that I will reach my goal weight, and in the process completely change how I feel about and use food. As well as developed a completely healthy way of eating. I'm just very relaxed about the whole process right now. It's a good play to be:)

Nice to get updates from everyone and find that we are all still plugging away and are totally committed to our goals.

Have a great day on the BEACH! I better get back to work before I lose momentum! emoticon

Well, we are still snowed in here at my place, my DH is plowing as I type this. We got over 12 inches, and it it that heavy wet spring snow. I need to go shovel, but clearly I am procrastinating....

Monyee: emoticon emoticon on losing another 10% of your body weight that is HUGE, and a new emoticon to celebrate with! How cool is that, you are really rocking it girl! I think you need to eat more with all your activity level. You can Whey Protein at any Vitamin Cottage of Vitamin Shop or like a GNC place. You probably could find one at a grocery store but you don't want to get one with lots of sugars and fillers. 100% Whey protein is what you want. I think it will help refuel your muscles and studies show that Whey Protein prohibits hunger.

Kathryn: so one of your sisters' is getting married? How fun to met a new family member. That is cool. Hang in there & take some deep breaths remember stress is counter productive to weight loss! So take some time for yourself and don't worry if everything isn't perfect or doesn't get done the way you want it to. Enjoy your family...

Slimnanna: you sure do seem busy between the grandkids and the remodeling project. Stay healthy, I woke up with some congestion today, lots of people have been sick at the Rec Center where I work and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't catch anything as my brother and family come in on Saturday for Spring Break/

So I haven't been doing P1 like I wanted, but my calories are in check, if not on the low side. I need to refocus and you guys are really helping me be accountable. I am not being perfect, but I can tell that there are some big changes going on in my body composition and my attitude toward food, which is really how this is going to work in the long run, right?

Slimnana: Keep taking as many healthy precautions as you can so that you can stay as healthy as you can for those young'uns! I'm so envious about your new laundry room! The washer/dryer came with my house and I'd love to get something more energy efficient. Since they are large and in great condition, I can't justify it. Sigh. Good luck to your DH getting the tile work in on time!

Kathryn: It would be so cool to see you!! I'm not sure when they're competing. I should know today since that's what the gym that's hosting regionals promised. I'm excited! Good luck with your sisters. I only had brothers and they are/were great. Funny and low maintenance!! LOL!

I've got to run to work. I'll try to post again tonight. Have a good one, Beach Babes!

Happy Thursday, BEACH BABES! emoticon

Hard to believe it's Thursday already! This week is just flying by. I can hardly keep up with it. This morning I need to take my son to a doctor's appointment and then my sisters want me to meet them down in San Diego for lunch -- to help one of them choose a wedding dress. UGH!

I'm still trying to figure out how to gracefully get out of this, as I have so much to do before I leave for Las Vegas tomorrow. Neither of my sisters are "grandmothers" yet. I still need to grocery shop and get rooms ready. My daughter and the kids are returning with me on Sunday and staying through next week. It will be another crazy week! Can you tell I'm feeling a bit stressed??? emoticon

I had so much fun at Disneyland meeting my cousin and her family. It was very cool to SEE someone with the same blood running through her veins. We had an immediate connection. I fell in love with her family easily.

MONYEE -- I would love to try and make it to Long Beach and meet up with you. Congratulations on your daughters doing so well in their competition. You must be having a blast! I will work very hard to organize my life so I can come in to Long Beach next Saturday. I'm about an hour away. I have family coming for Easter dinner on Sunday, so I just need to make sure I have everything ready to go.

I've got to run now, but I'll check back in later today. Have a great day, ladies:)

MONYEE: emoticon on the new emoticon and your daughters qualifying for regionals!

All the grandkids are still sick and coughing like they have TB. It's a miracle I haven't gotten sick with all the snotty noses I've wiped and the amount of times I've been sneezed on in the past two weeks.

The first phase of plumbing in the laundry room is done until next week, when my new washer is suppose to arrive and be installed along with a new sink and toilet. Hopefully my husband will get the new tile done in there this weekend as planned. I'll post a photo on my page when it's all done.

Speaking of photos, I posted one in my gallery of my new skirtini swimsuit that I hope to wear this summer. In the meantime, I need to get my hunger back under control again (not sure what's up with that this week) and get working on firming up my flabby arms & legs.

Kathryn: You're saying good bye to more pounds every week! That's rockin'!! Pack your beach basket so you can stay on track this week. Sounds like it's gonna be an exciting one! Do you live close to Long Beach? Will you be available the first weekend of April? My daughters did well at States this weekend and are competing at Regionals in Long Beach that weekend. We'll be staying on the Queen Mary. Interested in seeing a gymnastics meet?

Slimnana: I hope the birthday boy is getting over his double ear infection and bronchitus. Poor baby! How's the remodeling going? Enjoy those daffodils!

Ladubose: Where can I get Whey protein? Health food store? Grocery store? Good luck with Phase 1. I saw the weather and saw that Colorado got socked with more snow. Are you doing OK? I'll have to read your blog soon. Writing down plans really clarifies it in my mind. The rewards are extremely...well, rewarding! LOL! I got my new road bike earlier this week and I've been biking like crazy. My rear end is feelin' it, too! LOL! Good luck with your rewards. Leave some rewards bland (to be determined) to give you some room to surprise yourself with something that you 'just gotta have'.

Rose: Are you feeling better yet? Geez Louise! Health care professionals are always catching something...must be from be surrounded by SICK PEOPLE! Sigh. Get better soon!!

I've been having a difficult time posting...my 'puter is slower than molasses these past week. It is over 8 years old which is ancient in computer years!

Youngest and middle DD's did great at states and qualified for regionals which will be held in Long Beach, CA. DD booked us on the Queen Mary which is permanently docked in LB and used as a hotel. Cool! I'm hoping to get together with Kathryn if she's interested.

I've been doing well with exercise. I lost my 2nd 10% body weight so I picked up my new road bike earlier this week. It's bee-yoo-tee-full!! I biked it into work yesterday morning (7 miles), walked with a walking buddy after work, then biked home again. Today, I swam an hour, then biked a short ride, then walked the mile to my haircut appointment (I usually drive the distance). I feel a little fatigued, but otherwise am GREAT!

Eating is more problematic. Last week I found myself going off track several times. This week has been much better. I'm trying to catch up with the nutrition tracker while my computer is cooperating.

That's it for now. Have a food one, Beach Buddies!

Rose: oh how awful! That actually sounds like something my friend had recently, she basically went on a broth diet and lost 20lbs, not because she wanted to but because every time she ate she ended up curled up on the bathroom floor. The Dr's thought it was GERD at first, then maybe a bad virus that messed up her system...really they don't know...Hope you feel better soon! emoticon sending you healing vibrations....

Slimnanna: Ugh taxes! I have to do that to! YIKES! We have over 12 inches of snow so we are having a snow day and I am going to attempt to clean the house and organize the office...should do taxes while I am doing that! Thanks for the prompting

Kathryn welcome home looking forward to hearing about your trip

Eating has been good, not perfect but good, I wrote a blog about my new plan of attack after spring break if anyone is interested....I am really trying to lean out and gain muscle so I really need to look more deeply into my macro nutrition and make sure I am getting enough of the right kind of calories... I need to set more specific goals/rewards like Monyee has done I tend to get a big head of steam make some progress and then let up on the gas and wonder why I have plateaued.!

ROSE: emoticon to hear you are still so sick. I somehow escaped the latest virus that's been going around here for the last week.

Also forgive me for overwhelming you with TMI in my post this morning, I've since edited it down. I tend to get a bit manic around tax time. lol!

emoticon Get Well Soon.

Happy Wednesday, Beach Beauties!

Ladubose emoticon Hey, I am still recovering from your post and the near accident! THANK GOD you had mucho Angels watching over you and your precious cargo.
And actually, I have been pretty sick. I have not been this sick in about 20 years! emoticon Let's see..it felt like THE FLU but without the respiratory part. Today is DAY 9 of this.... And yes, I did get two flu vaccines last Fall. This is just one very nasty virus. One of my co-workers had it as well as a couple dozen of my patients. The symptoms are great fatigue, bodyaches, constant fever, constant headaches, and constant nausea. NINE days worth. I have zero appetite and have lost a pound a day. Not going to record my weigh in as I believe this is truly not accurate...still, we ALWAYS love when the numbers are down emoticon Did you know fever burns calories? The only things I have had are ginger ale, sparkling water, toast or crackers....toast and crackers, just barely. Yesterday, I had one cracker. I do not recommend this diet, but, hey it works. I am so weak with not eating but as soon as I take a couple of bites of ANYTHING, I get waves of nausea. I am just making sure I keep hydrated....today, I woke up and instead of feeling I would definitely die, I just felt like I MIGHT die. I have missed SO much work. Hey, what can I do? Can't get my patients sick!
Kathryn - You go, girl! Okay, my best advice is just to relax about it....make your plans and realize, any OFF PLAN eating is not going to undo your wonderful progress although it may set you back a day or two. Did you get your book? Of course, I have been sick, but before that, just asking myself if I am truly hungry helped me so much! Best wishes and have fun!
Slimnana - Okay, your post just wore me out! But I am still sick, so..
emoticon
I am going to attempt a brief market run. My sweet DH is away on a trip.....trying to decide what appeals to me, and really PROTEIN anything does. I say that, but once I prepare something and sit down, one or two bites and I can't eat. My dog has been in heaven....
Will check in later. Have a wondrous Wednesday, BBs!!!
Peace,
Rose

Good emoticon morning:

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday while babysitting the three older grandkids. Their parents stayed for dinner, so we could at least sing happy birthday to the one year old birthday boy, and also take some photos of him eating and mostly wearing a mini cupcake. The official group party for all of them is not until Saturday.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Today is the day I have to finally get all our tax stuff together to bring to the accountant before the end of the month. Nothing like waiting to the last minute, hugh?

I also have a few plumbers coming back today to hook up a new toilet for my laundry room that I'm in the process of having remodeled.
It's already after 9:00, so I better get offline now and get my butt in gear.

I Hope all is going well for you so far this week!

emoticon emoticon Kathryn!! You do have some major challenges ahead of you. My advice is to focus on the DIF if you do slip up get back on it as soon as possible, don't dwell on the negative, focus forward and start again. If you do gain, remember you can always jump back to P1 for a week or two and get back on track

Slimnanna: Oh poor little guy! I hope he isn't to cranky for you! I never heard that IOWL episode on TTOM, I will have to check it out! Yes positive mental attitude helps with exercise and then after a while those endorphins kick in and you really will want to do it!

Monyee: thanks! I was thinking of you yesterday. I remembered a few days back you said you were munching a little more, and I wanted to remind you that you have seriously picked up the exercise and that your body will need more calories than it did when you were sedentary so make sure that you are getting enough lean protein to fuel those muscles. You might want to add a Whey protein shake in post workout. I find them very helpful in keeping the hunger factor at bay. I just mix mine with water to keep the calories down, but you can add fruit, 2% milk, whatever you want...

I am jumping back on Phase 1 for a few days, starting today. My brother and family come in on Saturday and are here for a week and then I am off to Atlanta for a week, so I thought I better get serious for a few days to counter balance the up coming events! I have been up and down 5 lbs for a month now, so I guess that would be a plateau! Trying to think of it as still 20 -15 lbs lighter than I was before!!

KATHRYN emoticon down another 2 lbs!!!

You sure do have quite a week of challenges & possible trigger situations ahead of you. Just try not to let it overwhelm you by taking it one day at a time. Just think of all the learning opportunities you will have under your belt by next week.
emoticon

My older grandson will be turning one tomorrow. But I won't have to deal with the March grandkids group birthday party until Saturday.

I'm babysitting the younger guy today after he was just diagnosed with a double ear infection and bronchitis this morning. He's just now waking up from from his afternoon nap, so I have to make this quick.

I almost forgot to say that when I went out to get my mail just now that my daffodils have begun to bloom! Spring has officially Sprung!!!
emoticon Yippee!

Happy Monday on the BEACH! emoticon

And truly, I am HAPPY! Wish the scale wasn't so important but hey -- when your goal is to lose weight -- it just IS! LOL This morning the emoticon is my friend once again. I'm emoticon TWO more pounds! emoticon

I already know what my vulnerabilities are going to be this entire week and what I can't let happen! I'm going to Disneyland, taking a Seal Tour down in San Diego, heading to Las Vegas to celebrate my grandson's FIRST BIRTHDAY emoticon and going to a John Mayer CONCERT Saturday night! emoticon Yes, life is GOOD -- but I literally feel I am heading into a minefield!!! HELP!!!

Here's the deal, since I was able to go on and off SB last week, and lose weight -- of course I'm GOing to feel like I can do it again, right? I guess I better use some of ELIZABETH'S visualizing on how I'm going to move through each individual challenge - and conquer. Wouldn't it be amazing to actually get through this week and NOT GAIN! LOL

LADUBOSE -- I too am amazed at the power of this group. Both what I actually "say" and what I learn from what you all share. And, the accountability factor is very motivating for me. I guess some would say that we are just online people who don't really know each other, but I so don't feel that way. I feel like because we are SO honest with each other about ourselves -- that we DO know each other in ways that others don't! Does that make sense? LOL

MONYEE -- My son has allergies this time of year. UGH! Better get that Zyrtec going. How did you girls do in their competition?

SLIMNANA -- I have many times tried to be thankful for Aunt Flow, but you know how relatives can sometimes be -- and she would NOT LEAVE!!! LOL Now, lets see if these meds they put me on will do the trick! If I have learned anything, it is to take care of yourself, particularly during TTOM.

ROSE -- I'm patiently waiting on the arrival of my book. Amazon send a message yesterday saying that they had shipped! YaY. I'm just about finished reading East of Eden, and am ready for something new:)

Taking all suggestions of how to get through this upcoming challenging week. Have a great day on the BEACH ladies:) emoticon

Ladubose: My heart was thudding while I read your post about driving on ice. OMG! Thank goodness you and your girls weren't hurt. All those near misses!! I'm starting to think that I don't have a chest cold, but allergies. This is lasting way too long for a cold! I'm still fighting the body image issues. It took me a month to get the nerve to wear a bathing suit in public.

my computer is going buggy. will post later.

Oh, KPC is what I feel like doing during PMS! LOL! Did you ever listen to the IOWL episode entitled "Menstrual Mayhem"? That's the one that called out my name on Friday when I was searching the titles for the perfect one to listen to at the time. It was just what I needed to hear and it really helped me get through the day without KPCing anyone or anything.

On Saturday Aunt Flow arrived right on schedule, but after reading your post about your near fatal accident I gained proper prospective about TTOM being just a small unpleasantry of life that I should be grateful for having instead. Having an attitude of gratitude has become an intent of mine, since I began listening to IOWL.

Gotta go, but I'll check back again during the little guy's nap time.

He's down for a few minutes now, so I will attempt to listen to the final IOWL episode about exercise motivation. It seems to be that simply focusing on the positive aspects of exercise is the key to becoming a person who loves it rather than dreads it. One more positive intent that I've also recently added to my list of intentions, thanks to IOWL.

Thanks Kathryn. It is humbling and it does make you appreciate the gift of life in a new way.

It is interesting how this thread works sometimes. This morning I slipped up in my eating, having a small serving of the Entenmann's Cheese Filled Coffee Cake I was serving the girls and a glass of OJ. And I had weighed myself this morning, and I am still staying at the same weight, which I was actually ok with (thanks to the podcasts on plateua's) so I was kind of surprised that I ate that stuff, and I got an email saying a new post was here from Slimnanna so I came here and reread a few of the last post and one of them was me saying to Kathryn that I try to re align myself as soon as possible after a slip up and that really helped me out this morning!!! Oh I said there it is, now that coffee cake is in my belly and I can't do anything about that now, but I can start fresh again right now!!

And I went back and finished entering my calories from yesterday and it turns out I seriously under ate yesterday, so I am not as surprised now by my head long crash into the coffee cake! LOL! I forgot lunch yesterday and that really kept me low on the calories...
