Becky,

I am soooo glad to hear you choose swimming for fitness. Here's the thing. Swimmer's don't lose weight swimming, it's all the other stuff they do. It's the weight lifting, the stretching and the nutrition. Swimming burns tons of calories, however, swimmers eat tons of calories so they can swim for so long. A typical workout in 90-120 minutes.

With that said, I would tell you this. If there is less of you to pull through the water, you should swim faster, assuming the same amount of effort.

Good luck with your swimming. STAY WET and keep on teaching.

Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels and looks.

Not really. What improves swim times is practice and improvement of technique.

For me no kind of exercise has ever resulted in significant and lasting weight loss by itself, although it has increased muscle vs. fat. But the most important aspect has always been what I eat. Low-carb has helped me lose and allowed me to maintain.

i have quite a bit of weight to lose still. The people that have lost weight have your swim times improved a lot?? I'm hopeful mine will still improve a bunch. Just wondering. i have a lot of weight to lose though so that might make a bigger difference than a smaller amount.
