When feeling hungry between meals and too soon for a snack drink water, call a friend or go for a walk. Soon you will forget about eating.

I blogged about this 2 days ago. The most motivational meme Ive seen in a long time is in my blog. It has me super focused because it was posted by another blood clot survivor who has fought to be ok post clot. She discussed her focus on hydration, diet, exercise, and stress relief. All are critical if you want to feel ok.

I struggle with diet and stress management at times and made this my focus over the weekend. Because she said..Whole Foods and an anti inflammatory diet is her regular practice, I was able to dig deep and find a new motivation. Something clicked within me and Im moving forward again.

What motivational thing has helped me?

Medical ~ You are always one decision away from a totally different life.

Fitness ~ Every Day: A little bit Better, a little bit Stronger, a little bit Wiser. It's about Progress not perfection....

Diet ~ If you want something in your life you've never had, you'll have to do something you've never done.

Well, it took some thinking and ranting but I guess determination, accountability, and in the end, seeing the results. Those three things are what helped me.

Definitely agree with 'keep Sparking.' I also found that I had to keep searching for what works best for me. I tried eliminating certain foods - doesn't work for me. I would obsess on those foods. So I try not to 'eliminate' things but to 'limit' certain foods. Exercise - I was thrilled the day I read that you don't have to work out for 45 mins, an hour, +++! I've never been in love with exercise. So that was wonderful. Love the 10 minute Streaks.

In other words, you have to find what works best for you and keep the focus on you and what works.

Eat real food. Make all your movements a part of your exercise. I am sure I look weird to my neighbors as I always do an celebrate reaching for my toes whenever I have to pick up something. I am always reaching for the sky when I get out of my car and shake my arms just to loosen up after sitting behind the wheel of my car. I exercise with a towel every morning just to limber up by body when I get out of bed.

Portion control and moderation.
Be honest with yourself. Track every morsel you put in your mouth. No cheating because you are only cheating yourself in the long run.
I ate healthy but too much. Measure stuff for a while .Read labels. It's amazing how much we over eat without even thinking about it.
Definitely use the tool in these challenges. They are fantastic . I keep joining even though I made my goal. They keep me honest

I listen to a podcast called Life Coach School. One thing discussed a lot is that your feelings lead to thoughts, which lead to actions. And that we have control over this process!!! So now every time I reach for the junk food, I ask myself:

What am I thinking right now? What feelings do I have? Is there really a valid reason for this decision, or am I just acting on a passing feeling?

Once I go through this process in my head, I usually realize that Im bored, Im tired, Im upset...but very rarely am I actually hungry. Recognizing how often I do this has been eye opening! This process also works well for me when I want to skip a workout.

Actually it was the first day I came to sparkpeople! A few years before this I had totally given up on trying to lose weight. I would eat or drink anything I wanted. I got this email inviting me to check out sparkpeople. I saw the site and said the coaches know everything I know nothing! That was my mantra. From day one spark people said you can do this! One. Step. At. A. Time!
A weight lifted off my shoulders and I was able to breathe again. I have lost 177 lbs.

Moderation and portion control. Don't deny yourself your favourite food, just weigh it, portion control it and mindfully eat it by savouring every bite. Know when you are full and stop eating.

With cardio exercise start small and work up. Break down 30 minutes of exercise into 3 x 10 minutes or even 6 x 5 minutes if you need to. Try arm chair exercises if you are not able to move.

An exercise physiologist once told me, "no pain, no gain, no brain." Meaning that if you are hurting yourself in exercise, or not eating enough, you're not using your brain. While exercise can be tough, you have to learn that pain is different from pushing yourself. Hurting yourself in exercise is only going to set you back.

Getting rid of the "all or nothing" attitude when it comes to both diet and exercise. In the past, if I slipped up I felt as if I was a failure and would give up. No more! Start right back up with my routine, or change things up if that is what is indicated.

Don't let a bad meal or missed exercise blow your plan. I used to say I messed up now can't start diet until the 1st of the month, or week, or next day. Now it's the next meal I start. A missed exercise morning I have learned to do it later in the day
