Thanks for bringing this forum back. I've had acid re-flux for more years than I can remember. I take 2 Prilosec a day plus 5 Tums (Wal Mart brand seem to work better for me). I'd like to get off medication but every time I try to cut back I get acid re-flux. Generic brands of Prilosec don't work and it gets expensive.

Thanks for any help :)

Welcome to the group and best of luck to you.

I developed acid reflux in 2011 and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I first took Nexus but then it got changed to Dexilant which was to be taken as needed. While I was heavier I took an average of one pill every few days. Since I started losing weight on WW over one year ago and up till now I hardly have acid reflux and now take the pills an average of 1-2 times per month. I am fortunate enough to have been able to reduce my reflux through weight loss.

I know you will do a great job here as the leader and I hope you do well in your journey too.

Iíve had acid reflux for a long time. Last year they went down my throat and found nothing seriously wrong. We thought the problem was my gall bladder which was removed in December. Unfortunately while I feel better I still have a cough. Yesterday I had a CT scan of my chest. I know the doctor is concerned about lung cancer. Sorry Iím not more chatty

Hi,
I've been named a co-leader of this team, since the original leader hasn't posted in 6 months. I look forward to helping this team become more active, because this is a disorder that affects so many of us.

A little about me:

I was diagnosed with hiatal hernia, Class C esophagitis and reflux a little over a year ago. Because I have lupus, I can't take PPIs so I was put on Zantac. I have weaned myself down from 300mg 2x day to 75mg as needed, supplemented by Tums and occasionally a dose of baking soda. I don't like taking medicine long term that is supposed to be taken for 2 months, plus I don't like the side effects , so I was determined to get off of it asap.

I read a lot about research on GERD, and I'll be posting some of that research here for us to discuss.

Let's get this party started, and get well!

.
