First time doing the 5% challenge - was eye opener for me.

Challenges I found helpful were
(1) tracking food especially vegetables and fruit. Am a diabetic and have problem with this. Have been told to only have 1 fruit with a possibility if needed 2 a day but no more. Veggs are important by first of all I don't like them - only 2 that I will eat happily - also have severe IBS and vegetables are triggers for this as most of them cause an attack. But am learning that if I juice the vegetables they digest better for me not causing to much IBS pain - so have started making my own V8 juice every 4 days

(2) tracking exercise = difficult for me as I am pretty much immobile. Need a walker to walk any distance and can not walk very far - about 75 steps and pain is worst ever so need to be able to sit after only 2 minutes of walking - with time the docs hope I will be able to go further distance but not yet. So I use my treadmill so I can hold on.

(3) Getting outdoors - like the idea but with mobility issues this is very difficult for me especially in winter when roads / sidewalks are slippery therefore winter months are spent pretty much always indoors with going in the car to grocery store where I wait in the car while hubby takes the list to purchase items - terrible being old and not being able to move much

I would like to see challenges around time management especially when we think of this time of the year - everyone gets so stressed out as they 'are so very busy' = I must live in a different world - raised 4 children, and 50 foster kids and did not find Christmas any busier than the rest of the year - we have always spread out over the year time with friends having 2 different family for dinner in a month and if they cant come for dinner than we make a point of arranging coffee time at a restaurant once a month. Gift giving is not a problem in our family either as we celebrate giving each other what they need throughout the year rather than waiting and going into debt at Christmas. Generally for our family we have always kept December low keyed for family evenings together and again having 2 different families over for an evening - we avoid and always have all stress this way.

On saying that when growing up (my sweet mom came from a family of 9 children who all lived within 20 miles of each other) we always had some family in for meals at any given night - they would just arrive with whatever. And for Christmas day dinner - we had to rent a hall that you would use for a wedding as we never had less then 100 people for dinner on Christmas day - were we stressed (the aunts) not one of them as everyone helped each other and we were used to having large family meals together.

I share this now so that all of you that are feeling 'stressed by the season' thinking of all the 'things you have to get done' = take a step back and think whether you really need to do all that you are doing - is a lot nicer when mom's are not stressed and are relaxed knowing that it is just another dinner with her 'babies' and a few close friends

Be blessed

I only drink one coffee a day and since I went to a Prayer Retreat, I have not had any coffee for one week today! It has been a challenge but I think it also has helped me to be able to sleep better. Since hip replacement it has been difficult to sleep as there has only beenone position I can sleep in but that is slowly getting better.

Getting enough sleep is a problem for me too; however, it's not something that is ever going to change. I have ALWAYS had a hard time falling and remaining asleep, even as a child. I try to get 6 hours/night; if I aim for more than that, I'm not tired enough and just toss and turn. Melatonin and valerian help me FALL asleep, but don't keep me from waking repeatedly.

I think sleeping is becoming a problem for me with this challenge. I am not getting enough. So that might be one to work into the mix.

Decluttering is my favorite. Tracking Water in the winter is necessary because everyone is conscious of the necessity in the summer, but can be forgetful that it's still necessary in the winter.
And with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, there's quite a let-down afterward. I'd love to see some creative & imaginative ways to deal with it. Since it's the start of the New Year, how about things we used to love when we were children? Coloring (there are pages online or coloring books at the dollar store), playing jacks, jump rope, hula hoop, hopscotch . . . and, of course, they can be modified.
Spending time with family.
Clearing out the cobwebs from our house, mind & body.
Just a few ideas. emoticon

I like all the LTGL challenges. For me, tracking is essential. It keeps me on track and cheating is not an option.
Getting my water intake can also be challenging.
Decluttering is a great challenge. I got rid of a lot of junk at the beginning of the summer and it really makes a difference.

Thanks in part to this challenge, I have consistently made my goal of 3-5 freggie s on a daily basis for at least 30 days. I will keep working on this aspect of my plan until it becomes a habit.

Tracking on the weekend is my biggest downfall.
Getting up and moving and not being on the computer is also great.

This is my first group challenge and I am looking forward to it. Taking new steps to LTGL is great. I am going to have my own personal challenge of adding 15 min a day with the goal of clearing my mail pile and reading pile clutter for the week. Glad to be on a team.

I think living the good life for me means having time to spend with my family, being able to be with them when they need me. It means financial security so that we have insurance and enough money to pay the bills, to save, and to have some frivolous fun. It also means I don't have to always buy the cheapest just to get by but I can buy quality names any time I like. I t also means working at a job I like not just one I have to do to pay the bills. It also means I would be at my ideal weight and feeling physically fit and can move well.

Slow and steady wins the race, grant me the patience I need to persevere and make it through.

Not sure how to incorporate this idea but, this is called LIVING THE GOOD LIFE Challenge and so I think it would be a fun idea to what that means to everyone.

For me it means spending time with friends and family. It also means handling the daily stresses that lead me to eat when I know I shouldn't.

We need to learn how to make wise eating decisions when the going gets tough. That is what I call LIVING emoticon

I've never done one of these before, but I would certainly be VERY appreciative of anything having to do with decluttering!!

Some of the others sound interesting as well.

Thanks for all of this!!!

Living the Good Life – Meal Planning (This was the one that helped me the most, along with tracking)

Advance meal planning saves money and you are well prepared for each meal. Once you have a daily or weekly meal plan, you can plan groceries based on it. Pick up only what you need for the recipes, plus fruits and veggies, and some healthy snacks. The planning and shopping will take the stress off deciding what you will have for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Can you do a week's menu plan and enter the food and beverages in the nutrition tracker in advance?

So I stumbled on this team after reading a motivational sparkpage, and she suggested coming over on her blog. So, wanting to get back in to the swing of things, and because she seemed super duper awesome, I headed over here. I don't know about prior challenges.

I am up for just about any challenge right now. I need this so that I can break through where I am now.

Thanks!!

I can do this....I can do this.....I can...

Tracking my food seems to really help me keep my calories down, plan to exercise enough and analyze where I can improve.
I don't enjoy doing it and it is a bother sometimes. My daughter said to at least try to give a good estimate on portions. That makes it simpler and easier to do instead of being to "exact".
Knowing that doing that is not forever helps and sometimes I do it during the week and not on weekends or every other day. That way it gets done at least some of the time.

Doing something outside everyday is a favorite of mine, one I enjoy and find helpful, too. It energizes me and keeps things in perspective.

There's such a variety of options - some more challenging than others!

I know I need nutrition tracking, though I don't enjoy doing it!
However, it would be better, I think, to have Nutrition Tracking and Staying within Cal Limits as separate challenges. Or, if they have to be a single unit, could we have 10 points for each of tracking and staying within cals - so scoring would be zero or 10 or 20 daily for the "1" challenge (or even 5 points for each giving zero, 5 or 10)?

The 10-minutes Outdoors was a (for me) challenging new addition !

Do you have a favorite challenge we've done. What was is? What did you like about it? Would you like to do it again?

I liked the Freggies challenge because it forced me to see that I actually don't eat as many fruits and especially veggies as I thought. I was eating two fruits a day and 1 veggie a day. I'm still eating just two fruits a day, but I have increased my veggies to 2 to 3 times a day. When I start eating plant based more often both my fruits and veggies will increase.

I would say my favorite is to make sure you take 10 minutes a day for "me time". It is important in our crazy lives to just take 10 minutes a day to sit and veg and tune out the rest of the world.

I also enjoy tracking all your food, tracking water, and making sure you get enough sleep.

I do not believe I have done the de-cluttering one - but sound like one that would be good for me.

Some possible new suggestions:
1. Do a new strength exercise (or possibly 2-3 new ones a day)- something like that.
2. Compliment at least 1-2 people a day (either in person or over computer).
3. Smile and laugh daily!

I haven't done this challenge before but enjoyed reading everyone else's! Some concerns would be for a fruit/vegetable challenge would limit my participation due to being a diabetic - fruits are something I have very little of. The plank is something I can't do yet but look forward to being able to when my stomach isn't touching the ground.

Being new, it would be interesting to have some kind of challenge that has something to do with getting to know other people in your team or everyone.

Decluttering was a fun one.
Also, I like the not eating late at night challenge.
Otherwise they all keep me focused and on track.

The best thing we do is carry the Good Life habits for 2 weeks. All the challenges are great. Some are easy, some are difficult but 14 days in a row is very challenging.

The most "eye opening" challenge was the fiber - I saw how little I get in a normal day - what a gap between that, and what I need. I've tried to work on it since the challenge, but it remains hard.

Tracking is my least favorite thing to do so probably need it more than anything. I don't know how to use the nutrition tracker easily and find it difficult to find the things I normally eat. Maybe an instruction blog would be helpful for me and maybe others too. Maybe there is one somewhere and I just haven't found it yet.

Decluttering is another one I need work on. I was planning to do that when I retired but life got in the way and it still needs to be done.

I would say tracking my food 7 days a week and drinking my water; 64 ounces is sometimes hard to get down. The other thing that was helpful to me was the tracking of calcium. I now see that I don't get what I need on a daily basis so I keep tracking it and trying to reach this goal.

Do you have a favorite challenge we've done.

I'd have to say that my favorite challenge was my very first one! I lost 37 pounds in six months. I was so proud of myself. Then I went into maintenance. What a great feeling! Since then I've been steadily creeping back up in weight. I even started going back to those old bad habits of snacking! I've been awakened now and I'm ready to put my feet down and keep this body moving! I am starting a new journey (Ketogenics diet) and I plan to get back down to my goal this time! Focus, persistance and determination are key!

The two that I probably most need to do, and don't really mind once I get going is freggies and decluttering. I tend to go for one dish meals which often leaves veggies out and I've had a tough year as far as functioning and my decluttering stopped and clutter grew.
