Have you seen this blog entry from MCANIRLINH? It was emailed to me as an example of inspiration. I think it's terrific!

Slump-Be-Gone

So, I'm yet to be the runner I aspire to be BUT I'm a better runner than I've ever been.

I don't have a flat tummy BUT I've discovered my collar bones.

I don't always order the healthiest thing on the menu BUT I no longer make my choices blind.

I'm not going to be on the cover of a magazine BUT I'm starting to think that maybe I look good in certain clothes.

I don't always roll out of bed and throw on my sneakers BUT my sneakers are not collecting dust.

I haven't developed an ego BUT I am proud!

Here is a motivational quote (and translation) SP recently sent me that really gave me pause:

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing-- that's why we recommend it daily." -Zig Zigler

Makes sense doesn't it? The secret to staying consistent with your goals is to stay motivated. That means finding ways to fire yourself up on a daily basis. Being inspired at a seminar, while reading a book, or talking to a dynamic speaker is easy. But what happens when you're on your own?

To follow through on that burst of motivation and reach the finish line, you need regular booster shots. Give yourself those little positive reminders that you have a job to do and a good reason for doing it.

What’s pushing you? Is it a specific milestone, your self-esteem, a drive to make a difference? Surround yourself with visual, verbal and physical “pep talks” that trigger that motive. It doesn’t take long for dust to gather on your momentum, making your goals turn stale. A daily dose of motivation kicks off the dust before it can settle and gives you a fresh, clean start.

-----------------

I think I make the mistake of thinking that once I have experienced that initial exciting boost of motivation that it is supposed to "stick" and be enough to sustain me. WRONG! I also recently heard the above idea presented in the context of brushing your teeth... another activity that we understand requires repeating regularly to be helpful. Why do I keep seeing motivation any differently?

Please share your strategies for staying motivated.
