I walked the C&O....then continued the Great Allegheny Passage when I reached the end of the C&O.....I am going to sit this one out and use what steps I may get to the AT. DH having surgery next week so won't be getting many steps while playing nurse to him for a while.
I have walked the C&O....literally....it is about 2 miles south of my home and right off the streets in the neighboring town. Growing up I lived less than a mile from it. I just sent for a DVD of "The Great Ride"...featuring stops while biking the C&O and my town being one of those stops. In 1997 I joined a group of people that ran an ad in the paper to walk 8 miles ....I would never walk it alone...(DH not a walking nut like me) so took that opportunity to walk. It was a sunny, warm Saturday...the walkers were mostly seniors. They obviously were experts at hiking since they left me at the rear of the pack. A gentleman lagged behind with me and we had a very interesting chat along the way. That walk has stayed in my heart since then. Sorry I am rambling on here...I am proud to say I live nearby this amazing trail I guess

I finished my last trail on the 29th and let W4F put me on a trail. Wouldn't you know they put me om the C&O a day early. The first part the trail is walking around DC, visiting the Whitehouse, seeing the 4th of July fireworks, and visiting the museums. I've done this trail before. Be prepared for a history lesson.

There is no camping allowed for the fist part of the trail so we will be staying at hikers hostel's and motels. There are taxies that will take your pack to the next hostel, or you can push it or pull it, but you won't have to carry it. Ryan, the guy who did these trails for us, will be pushing a baby stroller.
