Thank you F8CONE8...

It did take a bit of courage to say that. But the deeper I go into this process the more certain I am about ‘Artist’
Appreciate you! Looking forward to hearing about all of our 2020 goals (yours sound like that they may hold some interesting things).

I loved your statement "I am an Artist". Too often we reduce our talents to wanna be statements. I'm proud of you.

I’m on Chapter 6 of The Artists Way: Recovering a Sense of Abundance

“Be Ground, be crumbled, so wildflowers will come up where you are. You’ve been stony for too many years. Try something different. Surrender” ~Rumi

I had a difficult time with this weeks tasks & morning pages (& my ability to stay inspired/positive). I would wake up feeling disappointed instead of looking forward to writing morning pages but did it anyway.

I guess perhaps it could be because monitory abundance is about money (and I’m a substitute teacher with an intermittent income) that it left me feeling suddenly negative. My student loans for myself and my son swinging over my head. I feel like a slave to my student loan debt. I wish I had the luxury of having money.

There is although abundance in my life. I have a house, food on my table, a nice car, two guitars, a plethora of Art Supplies! My job has flexibility which provides me the opportunity to have time to pursue my artistic dreams. I had been a full-time educator (as a special education teacher I was scheduled *glued to meetings, lesson plans & jumping through hoops all hours of the morning into the night).

Such synchronicity has happened since I began The Artists Way. My journey is open to new possibility. For one day I even taught Middle School Art. I must allow my thinking to change and to visualize having abundance. I am an Artist & am learning many things about myself while wading through this process.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...

Fantastic project.

I put together a composite today of workers in the tulip fields. The first one was gawdy so I started over and redid it. It is a tribute to Van Gogh. DH and I then went downtown and took images for another project. Great day.

My "big project" today was talking to Prince Frederick Graphics. I got information from them on their prices and how they make books. I'm going to be gathering all the artwork I have done, from my earliest creations to my most recent ones, have them photographed or copied in a printer, shrink it down to 8.5 X 11 and have it bound as a book. I'll be handing out the books as presents this year :) This is my latest drawing. It is on printer paper. I was planning on just doodling but it continued on to a full blown drawing :) Oh well. Now I have to start gathering all my projects.

Journal prompt today was "what is the big thing you are working on?" Great question don't you think? Overall, I am working on many projects but they all have to do with creating beauty. I guess that means my "big thing" is lots of little things.

Great idea. I finally found my book but won't be going through it again, at least not now. I made a conscious decision to stay positive in my journaling and in my morning pages. I don't need to feed any negativity right now.

Although I'm not writing every morning, I bought a calendar that I can write in each day, with lots of extra pages in the back for more when I need it.

Also put together a separate 3 ring notebook where I can organize my thoughts, drawings for projects, reminders (where I bought certain things I use from time to time), etc.

I'll have to say this project really changed my life.

Thank you!!!!

It is very instructive to go back and read LOL. Boy do I have mood swings. I have an art journal as well which is just fun. I'm experimenting with all kinds of techniques. Water color, collage, printing, stamping. Just good old fashioned play.

Not yet, for me.

In other years when I've re-read them, I remember thinking, "Gosh, why did I let that (fill-in-the-blanks) bother me so much?" But getting it out on the pages obviously helped to get whatever it was off my mind and realize that it wasn't worth worrying about.

As soon as any of this becomes a chore I am out of it. I've done brief journal prompts in my happiness journal. Morning pages are a different animal. Very productive like you say when they are not planned just stream of consciousness writing. I've had some very good blurts and ah ha's this time around.

I think it is too much pressure to try to do too many things at once, especially when I have so many fun creative things to do.

I didn't write morning pages this morning (stayed up too late last night finishing artwork and got up too late this morning), but my writing on the pages yesterday went in all different directions! I got a divorce one month shy of 24 years of marriage, and yesterday would have been our 49th wedding anniversary, had we stayed married. So I started writing about the things I could remember from our engagement and wedding -- things I hadn't thought about in years!

It's funny what all can come out when you're doing the stream-of-consciousness writing. In one way I want to continue writing and remembering, but then on the other hand, at this point I don't really want to choose ahead of time what to write each morning unless it's about an issue I need to resolve. I like sitting down and having something pop into my mind, and then seeing what comes out on the page.

Over the years I have joined different journaling groups where you're supposed to write about the journal prompt for the day, and I've figured out that's not the kind of writing exercise I want to do. At least not right now. It must work out well for a lot of people because a lot of artists and art therapists are suggesting journal prompts, and you see them all over Pinterest. Last year I came out with a few interesting art journal pages using the prompts and quotes. I've saved the prompts, quotes, and email questions that I've received this year from both Lisa Sonora and Jen at Journal Wild, and maybe someday I'll go back to them. Realistically, though, very few of my "someday" projects are getting done!

Isn't it funny that we have more than one journal. I have one I got at the dollar store that I love but it is almost full. My friend made me one with a soft leather cover and watercolor paper inside that is just for collage and watercolor. Now I have a third that is a knitting journal but it is full of mostly blank pages so I will use it when I finish my dollar store journal.

Glad that's going well for you to do it that way.

I began writing the three pages in my spiral notebook this morning. It didn't end up with gripes or rants or anything. Just more of a plan of what I need to be doing to get out of some of the ruts that I'm in right now.

I'm going to schedule a tea time break later this afternoon to write in my "pretty" journal with the daily journal prompt. I have to laugh every time I find myself thinking of it as my "pretty" journal! At this point I think I'll keep that vision in my mind so that I'll be sure to crack a smile!

Did any of you know that The Artist's Way Video Course is online? You may have mentioned it in one of these message threads, but I just came across it.

I am re-thinking my previous stance on writing the morning pages since I've been getting back into some whining and rants, anyway. Tomorrow morning I'll go back to writing in my cheapy notebook instead of my pretty journal. Then hopefully I can convince myself to continue with the journal prompts for my journal, although that is a lot of writing each day.

From her website, here's what Julia Cameron says about Morning Pages:
juliacameronlive.com/basic-tools/mor
ni
ng-pages/

I didn't have to create an account or log in to get to this part, but I believe you have to pay to get to the weekly lessons.

Last year I decided that my journaling would be positive or neutral. No more negativity. It worked I have grown a lot by being grateful and happy instead of whiny and naggy. I can't imagine anything better than using my journal to reiterate how happy I really am.

I'm glad you like your new and improved writing space! Good for you.

I'm following the prompts as well. I have no rules for my writing or journaling just keeping it up and enjoying the results.

BTW I went through last years journal and it was a great exercise in remembering the what an important and remarkable year it was. No regrets.

I started a new journal today, and while it was the stream-of-consciousness writing, mine may not be exactly what Julia Cameron had in mind for Morning Pages. For one thing, I wrote them this afternoon instead of this morning. Many reasons for this, but the main one is that when I woke up this morning I decided that I wanted to create a special place to write each morning. What better area for beginning my writing than my antique (reproduction) Secretary desk that I bought many years ago?

So I got up, opened the drop-down shelf and cleared out stray items I had stashed in there, and I dusted off all my treasures that I love but do not often look at or maybe not appreciate near enough. Just by handling and dusting them off this morning, I realized how much I enjoyed collecting the ink wells and glass paperweights that are displayed in the cabinets and nooks and crannies of that small desk. I love that space and want to start a new ritual of writing there.

Another thing that I am doing is that I am following some daily journal prompt words that I found on another website. Today's word was "Beginning." I'm also writing in a nice hardbound journal that I received as a gift, rather than writing in spiral-bound notebooks like I've always used for my morning pages in previous years. I've always wanted to keep a daily journal and have never kept up with it, so I'm trying this method this time. A lot of times my morning pages would drift into negative gripes, and I've decided I don't want to dwell on the negativity anymore. At least not in this journal! :) If I find myself wanting to rant and rave some morning, maybe I'll catch myself fast enough and dump all that negativity onto some plain ol' notebook paper! I am realistic enough to know that not everything will be sweetness and light with me every morning, and since I'm no Pollyanna, I'm sure a few rants are bound to slip in. But I want to remember the good times, and let go of the bad.

Julia Cameron says "All that angry, whiny, petty stuff that you write down in the morning stands between you and your creativity...this stuff eddies through our subconscious and muddies our days. Get it on the page."

I don't really want to do that this time around. It may have worked for me a few years ago, but that's not where I am right now. In less than two months I'll be 68 years old. I figure I can make the rules for my own journal (or morning pages) now, and still glean enough substance from The Artist Way book to get in touch with my own creativity.

Last week was a mixed bag. I discovered that I really have very little venom in my morning pages. My big blurt was my realization that a attitude of gratitude really works. I enjoy journaling my happiness! So are the morning pages working? More than it may seem. My heart is filled with good thoughts and happiness.

I picked up some new spiral bound notebooks at the store the other day, and I'll start going through the book again in January.

Might take me a few days to get to it, but I got The Artists Way Workbook today from the library. Have to get the ornaments done first. It is the book that I had or have, but can't find. Need to check in some packing boxes.

I seem to remember that handwriting is recommended by Julia Cameron. I prefer it myself--it seems to light up different parts of my brain than typing does.

Is it cheating to use my keyboard instead of a pad of paper for my morning pages? I seem to think better on the keyboard. Thoughts anyone?
