I joined the 30 day diabetic challenge this month and have been learning a lot. Today's article was tips to save money and shop for healthier foods at the grocery store so I thought I'd start a thread about how we save money at the grocery store. I don't know about you, but I am on a pretty tight grocery budget so whatever I can do to save, I try to do it! Please share your tips here too!

Here's my tips -
- Bigger is not always better. We have a small home town market that has wonderful specials on meats and produce. They always mark their meats down if they are day old so I scour the cases for those Manager's specials" As long as i process them (freeze or cook right away) they save me a lot, compared to other markets. They also sell produce at reduced prices if it is less than perfect or day old. I frequently can get bags of spinach or packs of 4 peppers that are past their prime, but still in good condition. Sometimes they even give away over ripe bananas which are great for smoothies or things like banana bread or pancakes
Of course, other things tend to be more expensive so I'm careful not to go there for other things just because they are closeby..

With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow. Proverbs 3:5-6 (CEV)
