Before. If the movie script is well-done, it will add to the enjoyment (IMHO).

I am (I must confess) a GoT fan, as in FANatic. I have read every book before any given season started and if I had any doubts previously as to which is better - the chicken or the egg, lol - that was enough to convince me.

I just finished the most compelling book I've read in a long time. It's not some deep psychological study, it's not full of delicate literary nuances, it's just a solid old-fashioned story. It's called The Revenant, and m'gawd, whatta story! GRR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) is a lot like this in terms of not being "great" writing - these books will not win awards from Gustave Flaubert admirers. But the storylines in both cases grabbed me from the get-go.

I sidetracked myself. I saw that The Revenant was made into a film (which won some Oscars, apparently) but I'm so out of the loop (lol) that I didn't find out until after I'd started reading the book. I will watch the movie ASAP because I want to see how well they captured not only the story itself but also the setting. If the movie is good - that is, stand-alone good - I would likely have searched out the book. But I'm not sure The Revenant would've gotten my attention the way it did as a "book discovery," if you will.

The last time I got this caught up in a book that I recall was The Book Thief: I happened across it before Oprah made it big (ha ha). I have since seen the film, which I found to be oddly muddy. Reading the book made all the difference to my understanding of the film; had I seen the movie first, I'm not sure I'd have sought out the book, thinking it would also have been somewhat confusing.

Well. I guess I rambled on a bit, but you see how you got me thinking. :-)

Next: activity tracker, yea or nay?

I've taken a couple of train trips lately and I've found them much more comfortable than the planes - much cheaper, too. Of course, I might enjoy planes more if I could afford first class. 😏

Usually I would say plane but with today's narrow seats and lack of food service, if I had time I would like to take a train trip.

When I was little staying on my grandmother's farm while Dad was out to sea with the Navy, trains would roll through on tracks maybe 150 feet from the house.

As they went by clackity clack, I would sleep and wake up when the sound was gone.

Camping (tent, etc.) or hotel?

Interesting timing on that one... I just bought a new washer a couple of months ago.

Top loader - but with reservations. I still like a "real" agitator, not the swish 'n' shake drums.

I've also discovered I'm getting shorter, or the top-loaders are getting deeper - I can hardly reach to the bottom of them! Which is a somewhat long-winded way of saying - my next one's going to be a front-loader, so I can get the clothes out. ;-)

Ice cream sundae - but I am picky: the calories ain't worth it unless it's genuine hot fudge sauce over (wait for it) maple-walnut ice cream.

I always tell 'em to hold the whipped cream, because I'm on a diet. emoticon

Good one! I used to be a Brownie leader and every year our big outing was to Hershey. Yes, the streetlights really are shaped like candy-kisses, little ID tags 'n' all. I think you could just about smell chocolate in the air. Speaking of which, before Baltimore's Inner Harbor was capital-I Inner and capital-H Harbor it was mostly warehouses, factories... a real working port city. There was (is, maybe) a big Domino's Sugar refinery there and yes, you actually could smell the sweetness in the air. There was also a huge McCormick's factory: I don't know whether they processed the spices there or just bottled them from bulk shipments, but I'm telling you, Lou, that was one nice-smelling area!

But I digress.

As in "When Harry met Sally." You know. Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan... you know. She micro-managed her food orders even at truck-stop cafes.

Peanut butter cups!!! Can't get 'em here. I can't even get decent peanut butter here! I always bring a jar or two back with me. I end up with a suitcase full of food, lol. Can't get Hershey's here, either. I bring back Hershey's real, dark, bitter, original cocoa. I use it for everything! (Well, almost everything.)

Speaking of which - Hershey's or Mars?
