Did week 7 Day 2 last night... I had a huge mental barrier to break though... running 26 minutes straight was very daunting, but I DID IT!!!! emoticon

I kept my 6.0mph pace the entire time... so I ran 2.6 miles without stopping or slowing down!

5K here I come!

Now for 27... and 28... and 29... and 5K!

Hello! I'm new(ish) here. I've been a SP member for years, but never really participated on the boards. I just started the C25k for the 3rd time, and am determined to finish the program and run my first 5k!

I just completed week 1, day 2 tonight!

No matter how fast you go, you're still lapping everybody on the couch.

So happy!!! Completed week 6 last night. Despite exhaustion (and probably doing a route with too many hills), I kept up the last 10 minute run... though I did have to drop to a 5.5 pace instead of my normal 6.0.

Looking forward to completing the program (for real this time) - and being able to actually run an entire 5K!

Did a nice walk/jog today with 4/1 minute runs and lots of incline adjustments. Went 2.15 miles in 40 minutes. It occured to me when I got home that I should retry the C25K program. Hubby and I were doing the program together 2 years ago when he had to stop because of shin problems and then right before week 5 my knee started hurting!! So this time I am going to go at my pace and if I have to repeat weeks until I feel healthy enought to move on thats what I'm going to do. I will run a 5K in 2012 and I will have a respectable time too!! Good luck to us all!!

Got new winter running clothes for christmas. Tried them out this morning. I just finished week 6 of couch to 5 training. I made a trail through my woods that have some pretty good stretches of hills. So I am not as fast but I know I am getting a good workout. It is only 1.66 miles in all. Today a doe was laying behind a log looking at me. Pretty cool. I didn't have my camera with me. Ran with phone because of it being christmas. Merry christmas all.

Hi - I am new to Spark so please forgive my ignorance - how do I find out how to follow the Couch to 5K training plan? It sounds perfect for where I am at (just starting, but hoping to work up to a half marathon next fall) Thanks tons for any help you can give!

Thank you, Sam!

I did it!! I ran for 30 minutes!! One more (official) session until I have completed C25K. Today's run was harder for me. I'm a bit nervous about day 3 of week 8, but am pretty confident that I can reach 35 minutes before the end of the year (my goal was/is to have finished C25K by the end of 2011).

WILD - That's FABULOUS!!!

I redid week 5 day 3 yesterday - and I actually ran 10 minutes, walked 2, ran 5, walked 2, ran 3. I did all my runs at a 6mph pace and walked at 4mph - so I did 2.57 miles. It felt GREAT! Can't wait for week 6... I will do day 1 tomorrow morning (I hope) while food is cooking and before everyone arrives.

emoticon Sam! I've been battling the dark the past few weeks (I run after work) - need to get a flashlight that I feel comfortable running with. I'm jealous of where you can run when you can get outside. Alaska is beautiful!! Mostly flat here in TX, but it's true ... we don't worry about snow and ice (much).

Currently struggling with Week 8 (in the wind)

update December 22:Tried day 1 on Tuesday and couldn't even run for more than 15 minutes. I was wearing more layers than usual because the temp gauge said it was still a bit cool (38) and it was very windy. I think both of these (especially the wind - felt like I was pushing into a wall) made it so difficult for me.

Today, I tried again. 28 minutes! I did it, and kept going ... 5K in 38:05 - a new PR for me!!! emoticon (walked a total 3.46 miles in 44:29 this morning and another 2.6mi with hubby picking up geocaches this afternoon ).

I am using the 10K Runner app now, so once I finish week 8 (two more sessions), I'll be continuing towards my 10K goal. Day 1 of Week 9 is two 20 minute runs with a 3 minute walk in the middle.

When I completed C25K the first time, I was still at a 13 min/mile average. You've improved SO much already! It's it awesome! (And I am SO jealous that you can still run outside... it is so dark and icy here that it's an accident waiting to happen for me...)

Me? I have been slacking this month something fierce... but did Week 5 Day 3 yesterday after doing nothing for almost 2 weeks. I made it through the first run (at a 10 min/mile pace), and about 1/2 way through the second got a horrible cramp/shooting pain in my foot, so slowed it to my fast walk. I was able to run again at the 10min/mile pace and made up the 2 minutes that I walked with the next run... Overall, I was at a tad over 12 minute/mile average - not too bad.
I decided to re-do this day either tonight or tomorrow (depending on how quickly I can get Santa presents assembled). Then I will run Saturday morning and Monday will be my first real 20 minute run... AAARRRGGGHHH!! (I never actually made it through a run this long in the past... always have done walk/run combos... but I am determined to follow and actually DO it this time!)

Happy Holidays Everyone! emoticon

Week 7 Day 1 - 20 minute run done! emoticon
I slowed my pace some because I didn't want to overdo and not be able to finish. (13 min/mi for the run part)

Week 7 Day 2 - finished, but walked a couple of times in the middle and ran longer at the end to make up for it. I hadn't eaten right or hydrated myself enough prior to the run ... still 13 min/mi pace overall ... that's 1 minute/mile faster than Day 1, which means I was going to fast and that's why I couldn't finish the run nonstop)

Week 7 Day 3 - ran 25 minutes straight for the 1st time (approximately 12:30 pace) ... the key is to not try to hurry it, just ease into and enjoy the run

Twila, emoticon !

Today, I completed week 6 day 2 as part of the Spark 5K running virtual race ... beat my personal record by 45 seconds (39:28). So proud of myself for running 2 10 minute blocks with only 3 minutes walking in between. Wasn't sure if I could do it. When I saw my time, I started running again for about another 1/2 mile. So excited I came home and after a 5 minute break got up and danced for about 45 minutes.

Celebrate good times, come on!

==========

update Saturday, 12/10/11 - Week 6 Day 3 done - I'm actually starting to feel like a runner and today I actually zoned out for at least 5 minutes during the 15 minute run. A week ago, the 20 minute run seemed impossible. Today, I'm ready for it! My pace is picking up (5K in 39:39 today on a gravel trail today). I want to pick up my pace but it will come. I'm sure of it. I've already pick up 6 minute since August.

emoticon , SAM!

Today, I woke up tired and sore. Wasn't sure I wanted to head out into the cold rain. Turned on the TV and checked my FB. Motivated by participants in the White Rock Lake marathon events (including some of my friends), I headed out into the rain to complete week 6 Day 1 of C25K. Disappointed in my pace, but proud that I finished.

Hi Everyone... I did this program for the first time in April/May of 2010... have run sporatically since then. Now, with the help of a treadmill, I am going to keep my running alive and am determined to break down mental barriers of my running (I can run 10 minutes, but much more than that and I give up - not physically).

So, W1D1 was last night... pushed myself to try to increase my speed too... since running for 60 seconds is no longer a HUGE challenge like it was the first time. I'm anxious to get to the 20 minute run, but determined to work through the whole program again and hopefully find a way around/over/under/through my mental block in the process.

What if you fail?
You will.
Then, you move on.

This morning when I woke up I took a look at the plan and thought ... "Yikes! 8 minutes. That's a long run. Should I try it? Am I ready?" I almost decided to do 1 minute walks and 4 minute runs (Rookie Running) but decided to take the chance. I was thinking I could always change it up if it was really too hard. Jogged the first 5, and thought it was hard. Thought about changing, but during the walk I thought, I need to keep going. So I went for the 8. I DID IT! As I moved past 6, moved past 7, and approached 8 ... I kept thinking I've made it this far, I can do it. Keep going, keep going. Don't quit now. OMG - I DID IT!!. The rest was easy. The last 5 minute run, all I could think was I jogged 8 minutes! 5 is a cinch.

In fact, during my warm up, I jogged 1 minute, walked a minute, jogged 30 seconds, walked 30 seconds, etc. Then, I made myself walk 5 more minutes to make sure I cooled down properly.

I'm scared about the 20 minute run, but I figure if I go slow ... maybe I can do it. We'll see

This time I am determined to keep the Spark alive!

So, I was supposed to do Week 7 of the Spark Rookie Running program yesterday, but didn't get to it between work and the Halloween party we went to. I thought I'd do it today instead . Then, hubby reminded me that we had somewhere to go tomorrow night, so I might not get time to exercise then either (yuck! I'm breaking my streak :( ). Anyways, I looked at the C25K week 4 plan and decided I liked it better because it allowed for some more walking than the Rookie Running program's plan for today (1 mile walk, 4 mile jog - repeat 6 times) so I did

C25K Week 4 Day 1, but then....

I wasn't a bit tired, so instead of walking home, I did

C25K Week 4 Day 2! but then ....

I was almost to a 10K, so I completed it - in 88 minutes and walked home (total 6.53mi in 1:34:23)

i am not an expert, having just started running myself, but i would say listen to your body. i repeated weeks at times during my c25k training. i'm now training for a half marathon using Jeff Galloway's run/walk/run method. i run for 3 min and walk 1 min. it's a good pace for me.

Today, I completed Day 1 of Week 3. I was able to complete today's session but it was quite a challenge, and I was extremely out of breath.

I'm thinking of staying here for 4 weeks as I'm doing this along with the Spark 5K Rookie Running program and they don't suggest 4 minute jogs until week 7

I've managed to do two days of week two, but I'm struggling to get the third day in. Just don't have the habit.

Just finished Week 1, Day 1... what a great workout! emoticon Although now I'm ready for a nap. Trying to figure out if I should push it and go on to day 2 on Tuesday, or repeat day 1.

Hey guys! I am currently going through my third round of C25K over the past 5 years or so. I have never actually finished every podcast but I have ended up running a 5k. I am really wanting to finish the whole thing so I can say I did it and so that I am as prepared as possible for my 5K at the end of October.

I am on Week 5 and just completed day 2 today. I didn't do so hot after a pretty awesome run on day 1. I think part of it is my mind wanting to stay at day 2 so I don't have to conquer the 20 minute run.

Any tips on how to get over the mental blocks!? I am so bad at this and want to succeed but spend so much of my run arguing with myself about if I can do it or not. Help!
