Hi Debby! Yes I ride my bike; in the winter I put it up on a trainer plus I weight train. Swimming now that's another story....I don't know how!!

Hey welcome Sheryl! I run on the trails to train for road races. As far a cross training, do you bike? Swim? Also weight training is good. Anyone else have suggestions?

Sheryl here; new to this group but have been trail running for awhile. I have ran races up to a 50k, not fast nor pretty but loved every minute of it. My next big race is planned for September so I thought I would come here for some advice/motivation. I have a few smaller races planned in between to check my fitness levels, cross training is a big thing for me. So anything you all can say will be much appreciated.

Wow, this thread hasn't been active since Sept? Jackie, have you decided to do a race?
Our first one is the "icebreaker" in Great Falls at the end of April. There are a couple in Billings before that but I don't think I will get down there to do them.

Jackie, you SHOULD! Volunteers to work races are very important, but there is nothing better than participating in the race! (my goal is usually to finish before the walkers! LOL!)

Perhaps next year I will run in the race rather than work on it.
The racers had a blast. I had a great time as race staff.

I worked on the Reach The Beach NH on Friday.
Over 3,500 runners participated.
A relay race of over 200 miles.
It was an amazing experience!

Races do not stop in early Fall. In fact, there are more races on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year! Last year, I found 10 within a half hour drive. (I know it was 10 for certain as I made a spreadsheet to compare prices and other tradeoffs!)

Jan 1 is another popular day for races. Last year, I did the Red Eye 50K so named because it was assumed that most people stayed up until midnight the night before (i.e., News Years Eve).

Presuming I have finished my taxes in time, my next trail race on April 14 will be Spin in the Woods, an 8K in McLean VA.

Several of my running buddies will go a little further the day before while running The Bull Run Run, a 50M on the site of several civil war conflicts, hence the amusing name. In the results, runners are divided up by North vs South. Last year, the South won "thus delaying Reconstruction for at least another year."

WIth Spring coming up I'd be interested to know what races/runs people have lined up. I have signed up for the only my third trail run, and the first beyond my immediate surroundings - the Liberty Lake (WA) 8-mile run on May 11. Anyone in the area who is interested, here is the link: trailmaniacs.com/Liberty_Lake_Trail_
