This summer I'm focusing on trail running alternating with speed work. Goal is a couple 10K races next month. Then in August I'll switch back to half marathon training.

What this means is I'm also getting to use the summer to lose weight at a faster rate. Half training once the long runs get to 8 miles and above makes me hungry! These shorter summer distances will let me keep my cardio and eat less. :)

The snow does cover up a lot! I lost a plastic ornament, from I tree that I put it on outside, and it got blown off and is buried in the snow! I may have to wait until spring to retrieve it LOL!!!

But the snow makes everything look clean and new. Enjoy it!

Well, since this is the "Trail Runners" team, maybe we should do something on the trails. Like pick up trash once a week, or run 5 miles a week, or both

Are we still doing challenges and goals? Getting ready for another race on Saturday, that is a goal. But I'm running it (not in walking division anymore) so I don't expect to do too well. But I'm still doing it!

Yeah, it included the video clip on my blog. (Along with a little clip from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) :)

I think the culture here is just a very shy one that needs direct interaction. They don't get involved unless you kind of push them to, then they seem to enjoy it. So I need to utilize that. Just talking at them is not enough (I know it never is the ideal way, but it seems extra inefficient with this audience.) I had a few little demos in it, but I think I need to push for more audience participation. Lessons learned the hard way!

I got nervous about 10 minutes in because they started to do the Blank Stare look... and I then fumbled and kind of rushed the rest of it :( But that just means every 10 minutes, you gotta get them up and involved!

So, goals this week - back to yoga!! Power yoga 4x/wk, and get out for a light jog again to see how my leg is doing!

Also, trying a "vegan challenge" for 3 weeks. I anticipate it'll go beyond the 21 days because I know i feel better doing it. But today is day 2! Had my protein shake after yoga, and packed a veggie lentil soup for lunch. (Forgot my salad at home... maybe I can find one to buy at lunch.) Dinner? Not sure yet. Probably some leftovers.

Kashi,
That is so amazing that you were able to give a lecture. As a teacher, I work very hard to have some great, well planned lessons. The more that you practice, the better than you will become at it! Did you use the presentation that was on your blog?

Challenge: give a lecture at a banquet hall for 100 people (though less than that actually showed up, thank God!)

Result: done! Not well, but learning and expanding as I gain experience :)

Hi Kashi,
That sounds like a good plan. Keeping your feet strong is so important. I do a lot of squats for my hips. If our feet, legs and hips are strong, we won't hurt ourselves while working out.

Doing calf raises right now as I check email ;-)

To build foot strength for trail running, it's good to balance on one foot - flat or on toes, or even heel! So I try to do that when brushing teeth, or standing in line somewhere.

I haven't found new outdoor trails at my new home, so maybe my goal should be to go explore in the next week :)

But I have been running on paved paths a few times each week.

Sounds like a great bit of extra motivation for me! Pushups, calf raises, and maybe even toe raises to help build up shin muscles (I put my toes under something, like a small end table, and then lift the toes to lift the object.) Building those muscles seems to help cut down on shin strain, esp during downhill runs.

Weekly seems good!

In addition to the team challenges, is there interest in this team of doing daily or weekly challenges?

Dailies would be something simple, like doing calf raises or pushups.

Weekly I'd probably give you three tasks to complete throughout the week, such as running uphill, doing crunches, getting your 8 glasses a day in?

Whaddya think? Interested? If so should I do daily or weekly? I help with these in the Columbus team with varying success.
