Well, if you're okay either way, then I'm going to post for July and if folks would like to join in, great! And, if not, that's okay too.

This week's step count is the lowest I've seen since my journey began in June 2013, outside of 2 weeks: the week the pelvic fracture emerged in March 2015 and the week the pelvic fracture was diagnosed in June 2015. So, during the second week spent on crutches following the emergence of the pelvic fracture, I moved more than I have this week. Wow!

And, that second week on crutches amounted to about twice as many steps as this week. Interesting.

Jeanknee, my youngest sister was like that and so was our youngest son. Eat like they where going to outlaw food tomorrow and my Sister wore a size zero her whole life, our son started putting on weight in his 30's but still eats the same way. At least he looks like he eats now. When he was little I swear people would watch him eat and think I only feed him when someone was around. I ate like that until I started taking birth control in 68 then I couldn't eat the frig any more with out gaining .

Have a good day my friend. emoticon

You're welcome, Candi.

I'm happy to keep plugging away here as long as folks are interested.

It is incredibly challenging being told not to exercise. Not like it's the first time I've had doctors advise me to curtail physical activity. The first time occurred in my early 20s. I was too thin, eating plenty, and unable to retain the weight.

So, I was told that my physical activity had to be reduced until I could gain 15 lbs. I don't remember how long it took to gain those 15 lbs. It was not an easy task for me. There was so much focus on keeping my weight up during the first couple of decades of my life. And, I could pack away the food! Al kinds of jokes regarding my ability to eat so much and remain so thin.

Following the diagnosis of the non-traumatic pelvic fracture in June 2015, I was again advised to curtail physical activity. It was 2 years before any semblance of normal returned. And, less than a year later, energy was beginning to ebb, the white blood count had crashed and in July 2018 my energy crashed and took a severe blow. I have not recovered.

How I managed to get through the fall semester of teaching is beyond me!

Oh, for a sense of how little I'm moving, in 14 days the fitbit has logged a TOTAL of 7 active minutes in 14 days. That's 30 seconds of activity a day.

Jeanknee, I could not imagine not being able to get in some sort of activity every day, I have been addicted to exercise since I was in my early 20's, once I got on the roll at least. But as you said you just need to find your "new normal" and I know you can do it.

I am glad we stayed in an area of the country that the temps are a bit more temperate, I hate air conditioning and it hates me, every time we have traveled to an area of the country that you NEED it I come home sick with upper respiratory issues that takes forever to get rid of. That's the main reason we stay here all winter, most places were we would go are in the need for it by late winter at the very least. My sister and her DH retired to the Florida Gulf coast and the first year we talked to them in Feb. and they already could not go outside to use their own pool as it was to hot for them.

Enjoy your day, emoticon

P.S. thanks for the congrats and for keeping this going.

Yeah. The farmers are being hit by weather extremes across the country.

Temperatures are cooler today than they were yesterday. Highs the past four days 112, 114, 110, 95 big drop yesterday.

It is approaching noon and we have yet to close the windows. By this time yesterday the air conditioner had already kicked on and we'd closed the house up for the day. I much prefer the outdoor air to an air conditioned house. But, I am so grateful for the air conditioner when the temps get ridiculously hot.

Good work meeting the challenge!

Don't imagine that I'll get the needed steps in to meet this month's challenge and know that pushing to meet the challenge is ill advised. With what I've learned regarding the condition, activity is not my friend right now and may never be my friend again. Working to learn the bounds of my energy envelope. I am not there yet. Based on what I have read, my situation is pretty dismal. So, working to establish a new normal and appreciate the little things.

Have to admit that it is painful to lose a tolerance for physical activity something that has brought so much joy to my life. Clearly, I am being called to focus elsewhere. And, I am doing my best to answer that call.

Jeanknee, Hope the temps have stayed down for you. We had a lunch/meeting yesterday so with that and no sleep the night before I didn't get many steps in, but enough that I made goal for the month. There was a story on the news last night that the local Strawberry growers may not get a crop, or at least very few berries, this year because of all the rain. Showed the fields with standing water between the rows, and they have already said the local peaches will be few because of the late frost and snows. Keep cool and I'll try to keep my feet from webbing.

Mother Nature's air conditioner is back in action. The fog belt worked its way into the delta overnight and we have cooler temps and a breeze today. It's nearly 10 am and I still have the windows open. I'll keep them open until the air conditioner kicks on. High temps the last three days 112, 114, 110.

Rush hour traffic is the worst. Glad the road trip was good.

I hadn't heard of Apache blackberries either. They have another variety, Cherokee, that's not ripe yet.

How great is your fruit deal. Our fruit is not in as yet, Strawberries should b in over the next couple of week hopefully. I get a flat for the freezer (and a few just to munch on) DH can't have them because of the seeds so they are all mine. Don't believe I ever heard of "Apache" blackberries although I get blackberries also for myself for same reason. Road trip was good, guy was on time and they did the trade filling out the paper work for the government. Traffic going across town at rush hour was awful and the 35 mile trip took over an hour but quicker coming home. Keep cool in the heat.

Wow! Really? More rain!?

I think because I've grown up in the area, I am fairly well acclimated to it and the heat is dry which is much more bearable than humidity at least, for me.

Oh goodness. It's over 100 degrees already and it's 10:15 am. Yikes!

With the recent health challenges, I am not tolerating the heat as well.

Safe travels and enjoy your road trip!

We got out to the farm stand yesterday and loaded up on more beautiful berries. The youngest son was working the stand yesterday and offered us a full (actually more than full he heaped that thing) flat of strawberries (12 baskets) for $15. What a deal. We will eat them and if it looks like we're not eating them quickly enough, I'll freeze them and use them in smoothies.

We also came home with boysenberries, Apache blackberries and blueberries. I just love berries.

We are back in the rain pattern for the rest of the week, have a road trip this afternoon for a trade DH has going just hope it stops for a bit. I couldn't take that heat that's why we didn't get a winter place in the south or southwest although we did look. We just stay put and bring out the shovels and snow blower. Keep cool.

Yes. Our global climate is changing. Yes. There are climate cycles. Yes. Our choices have an impact.

We (people) do not exist as a disconnected observer. We are a part of our environment and our choices do have consequences. We are part of an integrated whole.

Do scientists understand everything? Absolutely not! It doesn't mean that patterns of behavior and their consequences are not evident.

All or nothing thinking is such a disservice in so many regards.

Okay, off my soap box. emoticon

Our backyard weather station recorded a high of 112 yesterday. Air conditioner went on earlier this morning than it did yesterday. Don't think today is forecast to be as warm as yesterday though. We shall see

Grateful for an efficient and functional air conditioner.

UPDATE: Despite the forecast calling for cooler temps today, we hit a high of 114. It was another hot one.

Our power has not been shut down yet. It has in the past. We have what are called "brown outs" when the power demands exceed the supply available and the state independent operator (Cal ISO) initiates rolling brown outs.

The power shut down this weekend was specifically to prevent fire given the high fire danger. There's a sizeable (2,200 acres small as far as our conflagrations go) fire burning in the north end of the Capay Valley. The valley is home to the farmers that provide our weekly CSA box. Hoping the fire gets quenched before it can make its way south. I see as of this morning it is 30% contained with 740 personnel on hand. It erupted Saturday afternoon around 3pm.

What's been great is the morning temps have been mercifully cool. The temps were already approaching 80 degrees in the sun when I headed out into the yard to sit for a bit this morning between 7 and 8 am.

Hope things dry out for you soon. The stark contrasts in weather across the country (and globe for that matter) are amazing!

Jeanknee, I saw n the news about the weather, fires and the power shut downs in your area. Thought of you and wondered if it would effect you health. Be safe. We have not had what you would call summer as yet just a few days here and there of 70+ degrees then, as the last couple of days, back to 50+ and rain. Feel like I'm getting webbed feet.

Yeah. It seems that only a handful of us continue to visit this team.

It seems the heat has exacerbated symptoms for me. Today, the temps were mercifully cooler: low 56, high 90. We saw a high of 106 on June 4th.

We are under a fire weather watch. A grass fire erupted this afternoon prompting evacuations; but, they quickly responded with air support and got it contained. emoticon
