I am going to walk/jog a 5K tonight. I am pretty excited about that. I will try and post picks tomorrow. I will see how much jogging I can get in. But either way, I am determined to finish.

Wish me luck!

That's a good deal....and it actually less stress on the joints too. I like to run outside, but my body likes the treadmill better. I try to do both. When the weather gets really hot over here in the summer, I am kind of bound to the treadmill. I am grateful I have one too.

I really enjoyed reading this thread!

I thankfully have a treadmill, so I am able to get my runs in no matter the crappy weather. As long as we have electricity, I can run! I almost never run outside because it just isn't practical; I have a young child I stay home with. I don't have a jogging stroller and the sidewalks are awful (where they exist...) so the treadmill is crucial.

I got mine for $200 at the pawn shop. The local pawn shops get flooded with them in the spring...

Thank you all so much....I will try the singing out loud.

That sounds like a great idea. The weather here is perfect for outdoor runs right now.

I have a 5K next Saturday at night. I am going to do the best that I can. At least I know I can walk a whole 5K...lol

Wish me luck.

to this day I STILL struggle with my full runs...I can say however, it DOES get easier as you get stronger and build endurancre. You just have to keep pushing ...repeat a week if need be...just keep going :o)

I am supposed to jog for 3 minutes and walk for 2 minutes this week. I was getting pretty tired by the time I did my last set of running.

Any ideas on how I can push through one more minute? I thought of just doing another 2 minute jog and 3 min walk again this week, but then I just might not get past it cause I have it in my mind that I just can't jog.

I really want to make running a part of my life. (just venting here) emoticon

I start tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I am trying out this 4 weeks to run a mile that I found here on SP. I am going on to week 2 which means running 2 min and walking 3 min. I am so nervous. I have tried to run 2 min and thought I wasn't going to make it. I can't get my head wrapped around the idea so I know that all this is mental.

But I am pushing past my fear and will have to do it....no matter what.

Wish me luck! emoticon

This month I'm gonna make it to the 5k finish line! I can run 2 miles right now without stopping (even though I'm slooow) and I feel like I can make it to the 3.1 with a few weeks of pushing myself! After that I'll work on speed, lol :)

Edit: Wow, so ok. Yesterday I made it to the 3.1 mile mark without stopping. So perhaps in January I'll work on speed. Get my times down!

Just want to be consistent with walking or running, whether I can go one lap or many. December was a bad month for me and I need to move more. Aiming for 3 miles a week for a start.

The possibilities always outnumber the problems.

I got in 3.2 miles in on Friday and another 3.1 in today. It's becoming much easier so I believe I can push for more distance in the next week. :)

I am working daily on being consistent and working on my minimum 5.5 miles a day so that I can hit 2014 miles in 2014. Am behind a few miles due to being sick but feeling better and up to 6.6 miles a day and in another 14 days or so should be caught up and back to chugging along.

I got in another 2.38 miles today. I'll probably get back out there this friday and push for the 5K and I have a running date with my friend on tuesday... weather permitting.

Trying to keep my January goal of 100 minute per week running. Today I spent 50 minutes on the treadmill because I joined a virtual 5k this week. Factoring in incline and speed differences, I completed the 5k in 47:49. Not too shabby!

Y'all are definitely beating me by far. I've had a couple people ask how I've been doing with my workouts--we have a Fitbit group at work, so we try to keep each others' steps up--and I tell them that I think about going out for a walk or a run and then end up doing something else, like laundry or taking a nap.

They think I'm joking, but I'm just that sleepy these days!

Everyone keep it up! emoticon

I'm kind of hit or miss this week. Friday I walked 40 minutes each way to my zumba class. But after a night of freezing rain sidewalks were impassable Saturday. Yesterday I chopped and shoveled ice for about an hour and today I got in my 30 minutes walking again. I saw some people running, but there are still too many icy patches for me.

I'm a bit late and haven't been around much but I'm game for this. I ran 2.38 miles today. First time in six weeks and recovering from a respiratory virus/infection. I'm going to make 5K my "short run" and maybe run/walk a half marathon in April.

This week is supposed to have a couple of nice days so I'll see what I can do with them. :)

Honestly my fave temps for running are 40's or 50's. Above 65 I just get too hot.

Sounds like a great challenge!! I'm at close to 4 miles for the week. I live in Washington so it hasn't been as cold as some of the country - but really rainy!!

Get outside for at least 30 minutes no matter what the weather, unless the wind chills are more than minus 10 or sidewalks are too slippery. I won't run on snow covered walks, but I will definitely walk.
I have a fitbit, so I am trying very hard to get in at least 6,000 steps, even if I can't get outside. I have an elliptical and dvds, but it's harder to motivate myself to exercise inside.
So after all that rambling, my challenge is there in that first sentence!

Challenge yourself!

It's been a very cold year so far, hasn't it? I haven't gotten much running in lately, because I don't own a treadmill, but I tell you what--I was at a hotel this weekend, and I did get a couple miles in on THEIR treadmill. I'm SO glad they had it, because I would never have gotten a run in otherwise! (And I spent a lot of the weekend eating!)

I'm going to challenge myself to get in at least 5 miles a week for the remaining weeks of January--I know, I'm starting a challenge off 9 days into the month already! Whether it's by finding a day warm enough to go outside a couple times a week or following along with one of my several "Walk at home" DVDS, I'm going to get some miles in a new pair of shoes.

How about you? What are you challenging yourself to do this month?
