That's awesome, Cathleen! That's wonderful about your daughter. How wonderful that she already has that sense of self-acceptance!

I have become more accepting of my body that tends to hold weight in my middle, the "apple" even though I'm otherwise of average build after I saw pictures of my 19 year old college cheerleader daughter who has a similar body type to mine, but seems very happy with it! She is heavier than the other skinny cheerleaders, but has never tried to change her natural build, the one God gave her over the years, even wearing bare midriff uniforms! It's wonderful what a daughter can teach her mother! emoticon

Thanks for sharing, Sharon! It's so true - God always loves us, even through the changes we need to make. He doesn't wait until we get to a certain weight or certain something in order to love and accept us. He simply loves us and will support us through our journeys. emoticon

That's wonderful, Sharon! God knew just where to place you to help you overcome that sensitivity! Thank you for sharing that with us.

Yes, Kimberly Taylor did a great job with this post...I just re-posted it! The credit goes to her!

Wow, what a beautiful post. I spent more of my years disliking how I looked then realizing God made me the way He wanted me to be. When I was 13 years old, I would not look at anyone because I thought I was so ugly that no one could stand the sight of me. Well, God sent me to where I needed to find help. Of all places an art class.

At this art class I found out that I could draw and I was creative too. The teacher made me feel special. Before I know it, I did not feel so ugly and I started to make friends as well as enjoy my life.

Having experienced what I did, I am very sensitive to other people who are shy or feel out of place in a group. This feeling which appeared negative, with God's help, turned into a blessing.

Today I do not like how heavy I am. But I am not disliking any thing about my body...it's God's Masterpiece.

Overcoming a Negative Body Image
By Kimberly Taylor

I used to wish I had actress Halle Berry's body. There, I said it.

Christians are not immune to having a negative body image. I was on a message board years ago and one of the women mentioned that she had watched the Ms. Universe competition the previous night. She was feeling depressed because she had compared herself to the beautiful women in the competition.

She found herself lacking. I understood completely.

We compare ourselves to a beauty queen or Hollywood actress and then beat ourselves up because we don't look like that.

If you are struggling with negative thoughts about your body, then I have 7 scriptural based confessions that can help. I also have a simple exercise you can do to appreciate your body more.

I'd love for you to share your thoughts and comments on the blog as well.

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

Kimberly Taylor
