We just took a chance and planted our squash and tomato plants. We have beets, onions, and green beans sprouting. We also have broccoli planted but I think the birds ate my tiny lettuce sprouts but they left the spinach alone. The best thing about today is that it rained! We need the rain. So happy to see it today.

Total garden-lettuce radishes kohlrabi beets carrots gourds summer squash acorn squash tomatoes peppers cucumbers. I used to have a huge garden and grew beans and corn too but I think they are not worth the effort as you can get them at farmers markets in season.

I have baby tomatoes to plant. One of them is a hybrid and the other is a beef steak. I also need to plant my carrots and cucumbers. I have 3 basil plants growing. We eat tons of basil, but I left one of them alone just to see how big he gets. I also have green onions and celery going
They sure do take a lot of water and sunlight. I should buy more seeds. I want variety. I am thinking egg plant, lettuce, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, and maybe some green beans and peas. I.know it sounds like a lot, but I do have plenty of family.

Had spinach salad again today. Darling little tender baby spinach leaves. My mint is doing very well, the strawberries have lots of blooms so hopefully lots of berries. The raspberries are leafing out. Had to haul out the hoses and water. Of course my prolific crop of dandelions is in full bloom. I picked 3 gallon zip lock bags full to freeze for making wine later. Transplanted some lilacs and have been pampering them so they will 'take'. I think they will lose the flower buds but we shall see. I had lots of cement work done last summer so have to fill in with top soil and plant grass or something now to get the yard back into shape. My rhubarb is looking good! Hoping to make some time this week to get some beets and carrots planted. Also with the chopping down of some big trees I'm going to try to grow a fence of sweet peas. It was always too shady there. Can't keep up with the weeds right now but things will settle down a little after Mother's Day and I'll have more time to shape things up. I've been hauling in bags of top soil and mulch 4 at a time for the last few days. It's so much easier on my knees and back to just have 4 to haul each day!!

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

Moving dirt today in to my two large containers where I will plant tomatoes and peppers. Expecting snow again tomorrow night so I have to hold off on everything. Continued my fencing to kepp dogs in and cats out (which I doubt I can do). I have put netting over the planted garden to keep them from digging. Strawberries and Rhubarb doing quite well as is the mint and my traveling onion. Can you tell I am ready for spring? emoticon

No never heard of it-can you find anything on line. On the outside gardening note-rain and snow-yes we needed the moisture. Hoping for a decent day Thursday to get some more cold crops in the ground and my cats fenced out of my garden. Inside-my orchid plant is blooming for the 3rd time since it was given to me and my Christmas cactus is blooming for the 3rd time since November.

Can't believe we have already had a wild fire. Too early. Made me postpone my weekend planting but I did get started yesterday. Got 9 potato hills in tires started and radishes and lettuce planted. Did this while it sprinkled snow on us. Next week I will be planting Kohlrabi, carrots and beets. Did you know that they say there is an ingredient in soil that helps prevent depression in addition to the exercise and the feeling of accomplishment you get while gardening. What a deal. emoticon Happy Easter emoticon

I love gardening!!! I grew 4 lemon trees from seed over the winter! I garden inside over the winter, just small veggie crops, for salads and snacks.

Does anyone know how to identify a species of magnolia tree from its seed? My father in law has a magnolia tree that I found a seed pod on and took the seeds from.

He also gave me some raspberry bushes, I cant wait for them to get berries!!!!

Im so excited for my lemon trees too!!! I have a ton of seeds!

Im thinking about making a salsa garden!!

I live in an apartment so I garden in containers, its soo fun!!!

Okay Montana gardening peeps-windy and chilly today but time to get moving dirt in to my tire potato hills in order to get the potatoes planted before Easter. One bed needs some more dirt too. Hopefully the tractor will be fixed today to help. Fire season has started it is so dry. Two fires in our area yesterday but not that we had to respond to. Rosebud County-3700 acres, Treasure County 3000 acres, Golden Valley County 300 acres. Musselshell County helped on this last one. We were in stand by. Pray for rain. emoticon

I am getting ready to plant my lettuce, carrots, and radishes. I know you can plant when you can work the ground. My husband can't eat spinach so I don't plant it. I do not grow seeds in the house either. I have in the past and maybe if I ever get a greenhouse. And potatoes are supposed to go in before Easter so they will go in soon too. I love gardening and it is good exercise, especially at age 63. emoticon

I have already planted my spinach. It can go in as soon as you can work the ground. I don't know where you live but you might want to check at your local extension office. They offer master gardener classes in the winter months and are a wonderful source of information and gardening friendships in your area. I've NEVER had any luck with apples but have some friends with old apple trees that seem to do well but they don't know what kind they are. I have raspberries that do very well-both the thorny old kind and the newer thornless. My mother ruined my strawberry bed a couple years ago so I'm hoping it will come back this year. I've done the taters in tires with great success.

I don't plant seeds in the house. I just buy at a couple local greenhouses. I wish you great success. I don't do many garden veggies anymore. Seems easier and cheaper to just buy from the Farmer's Market. I did it for years but it lost it's appeal when the water bills got so high and my knees didn't like weeding. I planted lots of perennials in my flower beds and do tomatoes in containers and a few rows of beets. I also have lots of rhubarb that takes no time at all. But my daze of spending lots of time in the garden are over.

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

Never give up what you want the MOST for what you want at the MOMENT!

emoticon I am a vegetable gardener and am getting psyched that spring is almost here. I would love to share thoughts on this topic. It is also an exercise so it is fun. I plan to grow potatoes in a tire tower-trying something new this year. I have strawberries, horseradish and mint. I will also be growing beets (for a friend), carrots, lettuce, , cucumber, kohlrabi, pumpkin, radish, squash (summer & winter). The Montana growing season can make it a challenge. I am looking for a good type of blackberry, apple tree, and other fruits that due well in Montana. Who can help me out.

I can do it with your help!
