I run because I get to do a great thing for my mind and body!

I run because I'm tired of just sitting around watching my reflection in the TV :-P

"A guy who came to Fight Club for the first time, his a** was a wad of cookie dough. After a few weeks, he was carved out of wood." --Narrator (Fight Club).

I run because it gives me an adrenaline rush (middle to end). I enjoy the ache that comes at the end of a long run - reminds me that i'm still health enough to do this activity. By the end of the run, i'm completely exhausted and exhilarated. Oh, yah, running also allows me to not think about anything; just get into my "blank zone". LOVE II emoticon emoticon

I run because it makes me feel so good when I am done!
It truly is the best stress reliever I have found.
I have reconnected with my friend form high school. We never stop talking when we run (except on big hills)
I am trying for the runner's butt (I know it sounds shallow but its true)
I love being one of the first people out on the road in the morning- what a great way to start a day.
I find it to be very challenging and it makes me realize I can do anything I want to.

Haha, I like it that my thighs are getting hard as well :)!

I am a runner because it makes me feel better, stronger, and gives me more confidence knowing what I am capable of. At the moment I do not have the feeling that I am loosing a lot of weight by running, but I don't care. It feels so good being out there!

-It helps me stay sane- yes, really

-I want to stay one step ahead of my sons as long as possible. I like it better when they have to chase me.

-I like how I feel afterwards

-and yes, I LOVE finally (I know it is shallow) having runner's butt!

I just joined the team this week so I can't respond with the personal experience the rest of you have. I'm in the process of turning things around - I let life take charge of me the last several years and it's time I face it and decide what's important to me and how to live a live that reflects who I want to be. As far as running - I use to run regularly and several times over the last few years I've returned to running - but not long enough to become a "runner" again. My response is based on what I remember from when I was a runner and why I want to run again.
I ran/want to run again because:
It keeps me grounded mentally, physically and emotionally.
It keeps me healthy and strong.
I feel as though I have accomplished something.
It makes me happy.
It allows me time to clear my head and focus on who I want to be.
It makes me proud of myself.
Thanks ladies - your spark pages have inspired me.

Holly

Great idea for a thread!

I run because...
+ It keeps my weight in check
+ It keeps my mind clear and fills my heart with peace
+ It used to appear impossible
+ Many people refuse to do it
+ People say I can't
+ It's an accomplishment
+ It's really really REALLY fun!

I run because…

I wanted to start this thread after a couple things happened this weekend that really made me grateful for my healthy lifestyle and all the progress I have made in the months since I started running. I wanted to have a place to express my gratitude for the gift I have been given...the gift of RUNNING!!!!

First I came home from my long run totally exhilarated to find DH STILL in bed playing his Xbox. I commented to him that one day when he was not able to get out of bed, he was going to regret all the time he spent in bed!!! He nodded and continued to play.

Then I met a friend for dinner who has/had been struggling with among other things feeling like she was not grounded in her own life. She was talking about how she feels so out of control and not knowing what her next move should be.

The next morning I walked with my best friend to the farmers market. It was just a 2 mile walk but it took it’s toll on her where I was feeling great and ready for more.

Later that afternoon I found out an old friend of my brother’s was recently diagnosed with MS. He is about 40, recently married and has a 9 month old daughter. I was shocked and devastated by the news.

So I guess the answer is…

I run because I can
I run because it relieves my stress
I run because it makes me feel strong and confident
I run for my health
I run for my happiness
I run for my sanity
I run for MY LIFE!!!

So why do you RUN?????

Jackie!!!
