I rode bareback on Monday for 30 minutes. I rode with my daughter outside of the horses paddock and onto the paved roads for the first time this year on Tuesday - about 1 hour. Then we rode our horses to the river and back on Wed - about 2 hours.
Doing pretty good this week emoticon

WE rode twice last week, its been too cold this week and we've been too busy, but taking a long ride next weekend and hoping to get in some time during the week! I just get bored riding in the round ring, we are thinking of taking up cowboy mounted shooting!

Got an hour ride in at Lime Creek Nature Center in Mason City, IA today. Took my 3 year old. She definitely needs to be exposed to lots of stuff. Everything if pretty scary right now. She'll get better. She does follow well.

Took our young mule out on real trails for the first time this year. Since my youngest son moved to Madison, weekends are hard to match schedules. Went camping at Volga River in Fayette, Iowa. She did wonderfully. Creeks were a challenge, but by the end of the weekend would go through if she could see the bottom. Also crossed bridges, although it caused her a great amount of stress. One step at a time!

Finally got our first trail ride in yesterday. Took my daughter and granddaughters. First trail ride ever for the little girls. Went out twice so that everyone got a turn. They did exceptionally well and absolutely loved it. It was a beautiful day. What fun!

Don't think that our closest trails are open yet for horses due to the rain. I've gotten a couple rides on my 2 yr old since Saturday. She is definitely going to take some saddle time to get her relaxed. Be good for me though.

I'm starting to lunge and ride more regularly. My mare is arthritic so I lunge a little to loosen up her back and hocks before getting on her. Earlier this spring it helped get the bucks out too..lol..she has settled now. I am almost brave enough to hit the trails now! I just have to wait for the trails to dry up a bit.The issue with spring trail riding is the ticks...grrr!

Did get 3 of the horses lunged last Saturday. Didn't know if I would be able to push the front doors of the barn open; the wind was so bad. Been under water ever since. Can't wait to get some riding in. Started a 2 yr. old this winter and anxious to get more time on her. No indoor arena.

I didn't ride this week. It's been very windy and yesterday sunny and 70s and today rain/sleet/ice/snow and 40 degrees. Did feed the mare treats and brush her a bit. Spent some good time with her and my b/f. :)

I'm not getting out as often as I'd like to but I have gone two weekends in a row and hope to get out today at some point. Had a 1 hour ride two weeks ago and a 4 hour ride last Sat with a picnic at the half way point! The scenery is beautiful here now and the weather was perfect!

I am sooooo digging this fall weather!! So nice to ride w/o all the flies :)

We have been most every weekend, and once or twice during the week. I have some house guests, and they are horse crazy for sure, and they ride almost daily.

We went on a trail ride last weekend, that is a two day deal. We only went for Sunday, about 50 riders. The Saturday ride had 3 times that many. My horse... he is always awesome.... but he was super awesome that day. He is half gaited, so sometimes it is a hit and miss as to his smoothness but he was on the money all day! It felt awesome!

This is your journey. Take the wheel and drive!

I got out for a short trail ride this evening..turned back when we came to a big pile of bear poop and tracks. My mare was thoroughly enjoying herself on the ride, quiet and content..picking a little grass on the way.

Did some trail riding this past week. Haven't ridden in several weeks since work has been so crazy. Decided that I needed to make this a priority both for myself and the horse! Oregon's summers are so beautiful I just can't miss trail riding. My goal is to ride at least two evenings after work and then at least once on the weekend. (I've even made this a SparkPeople goal to try to set up some accountability measures!)

I just got back from a lovely ride out on the river trails near the local wildlife preserve. Shooter's heel finally healed well enough so we are able to ride again. It's so great to be back in the saddle! Today was our third day in a row, and since tomorrow's a holiday, we'll go again then. The weather has been absolutely perfect too. Loving it!

Well, Shooter and I are sidelined for a few weeks. :-( I got home today to find that he'd managed to get his foot caught in a piece of wire. He'd broken free, but managed to slice a nasty flap on his heel bulb. The vet said it wasn't too deep, and only went very slightly into his coronary band, so he should be fine once it heals. Anyway, he now has nine stitches and a boot bandage, and we won't be riding for the next month or so. I'm very upset, but on the other hand, I got him with the idea of spending many happy years with him. I can manage a couple of weeks off so long as he'll be OK. He sure is going to be full of himself when we finally get back out though.

She'll be back on Friday to change the bandage, and in the meantime I'll be giving him bute and antibiotics, and lots of carrots. ;-) Wish us luck for a speedy recovery!

No trail riding last evening unless the side road beside the barn that goes a couple of houses down counts. Did however get 45 minutes in the arena, and hopefully will this evening. Trying to get more ready for the versatility clinic on Friday.

Sold my trailer last year; so all the riding I'm doing is around the yard, although I did get my son to start a short trail for me in the woods next to our house, though I did ride for an hour and a half today on our appy :) fun

We had a nice ride today--two hours on the river trails in lovely weather. :-) I need to see about getting some stronger halters though--Shooter is harder on them than any horse I've ever had. He destroyed two today alone! And it's not like he goes crazy or anything...just a simple pull back, and it's toast. Never seen anything like it in all my time with horses. He's built like a tank!

Rode yesterday for 4 hours, it was great and somewhere I haven't ridden before. However one person had a dog and my horse can be a bit goofy about noise in the bushes, so I had one little spook. Ironically he then wanted to see the dog, he took a big sniff of the dog and for the second part of the 4 hours kept trying to follow the dog. Silly horse! I promptly came home and collapsed after and didn't meet my calorie requirements. I seem to do that when I get too hot, or get sunburned. emoticon

I'm hoping just to climb on one of the horses today and start riding. Sold my trailer last year as part of a committment to get financially free, so dont think I will be riding in much more than my driveway and around my house this year. THOUGH to stay modivated and involved, I have become somewhat of a trails advocate. :) though this would be a good way to give back to what I have gotten so much from.

What a great town!! How fun!! I ride to town once in awhile but we have to do the drive-thru. No place to tie up emoticon

We were going to ride today, but it rained yesterday and I didn't want to rut up the trail, and then have others curse the horses. So instead, I stayed home and put together this little saddle club for all us Hot-2-Trots emoticon

Just got back from a ride a little while ago. :-) I like to ride down near the Santa Ana River in the Hidden Valley wildlife refuge. Sometimes I also like to just ride through town. It's very horse friendly here, so there are designated bridle trails on all the streets and horse-height crossing buttons at the lights. Heck, most of the stores and restaurants here even have posts and corrals. I love it here. :-)
