Thanks for the information on calorie counters, this is really helpful.

Has anyone managed to find UK equivalents for some of the American foods given in the diet suggestions? I love this site, and I'm really enjoying meeting people from all over the world, but I do struggle to find equivalent foods which I suspect is helping me to maintain, rather than lose, weight.

Thanks and keep Sparking! emoticon

Hi guys,
Have you seen my recent blog post? Its all about British take-away food and gives a lot of detail on calories in typical dishes.

I make a lot of my own soups and sauces and find it really difficult to calorie count with them. I tried the sight mentioned below but it wasn't particularly helpful for me, I don't know whether it was because it is American but there seemed to be lots of ingredients that it didn't recognize.

Today is a beautiful day, I choose to make it so.

I don't know exactly how good it is, but this website claims to give you the values of homemade meals too :-)

I don't think they will be poaching anyone from this site. Why would we leave to go to a site you have to pay for? I love this site and think it is even better than WW Online.

Thanks for the quick response,Jude.

Very kind of you to respond but I'm amazed that any firm who offers the same online diet service as SP but charges high membership fees, should be allowed to poach customers here. Very brazen !! Rant over.

Advertising is what keeps Sparkpeople free, & from what I can gather the advertising tends to pick up on what is on your computer anyway. I.E. my hubby gets stuff aimed at males whilst I get stuff aimed at females. Plus I reckon it be even more annoying to just get American adverts. Hope this explains it ok. Don't forget to look up the UK Foods as I mentioned a couple of notes ago.
Take care

I'm very confused by this website. Sparkpeople is an American site...Right emoticon

Tesco diet website is expensive to join....right emoticon

Then why are Tesco allowed to advertise here

I can't stand Tesco and find their prominent adverts here very off-putting. Why are they here emoticon emoticon emoticon

To find values for U.K. food on Sparkpeople, don't forget you can go into 'Add a food' & in 'Food Search' section click on 'Import from other members' - 'Search By':- 'foods from United Kingdom', then key in the food you want to find. You will see that people have even loaded different supermarket items. Brilliant, and of course the more we share our own favourites, the better it is for everyone else.

Thanks to all for these sites. i have been battling with the Nutritional Inf pages as so much seems to be American and having been a lapsed Sparker for a while I thought I should try and do it properly this year. Thanks again.

I didn't find the rest of the site that user friendly but the food search is a good resource, especially as it seems to have a lot of stuff from UK supermarkets.

Asda and Tesco are my go-tos for most things. Waitrose's website bizarrely doesn't include nutrition information, but if you're looking for calorie counts for Waitrose own-brand products you'll find them at http://www.ocado.com

Something that i have found to be usefull is that if you do your online shopping with Asda, Asda list all of their nutritional values on their product information, so you can check before you buy! I also use this if i have thrown the packaging away for example. It helps me anyway!
