Yes, it does. Now, exactly what tradition or culture is this from? (I be iggerant!) emoticon

The first syllable is pronounced in sort of a combination of "yi" as in sky, and "ya" as in Ma or Pa. The second syllable is pronounced "ya" as in Ma or Pa. The accent is on the first syllable. I hope that helps!

So, how do you pronounce Yiayia?

The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. Psalm 145:14

Welcome back! Family before internet . . . I agree! Congratulations on all the wonderful things happening in your life. Kathleen

(Salty, I had to look it up to see what Yiayia meant. Now I know!)

Have you seen the amazing new church the nuns have built on the property? They had knowledgeable people telling them what they needed to do, but they did most of the manual labor themselves. It was dedicated in 2012, but last week when we were there, they couldn't hold services in it because they were adding handwritten icons to the walls. A visiting iconographer was doing the charcoal outlines, and Mother Olympia was doing the painting. So we had Liturgy Wednesday morning in the old chapel.

I am so impressed by the joy and peace that radiates from all the nuns who live there. Fr. Roman is still alive, he is slowly dying of cancer, but according to the doctors he was supposed to have died last fall. The nuns brought him in a wheel chair for Liturgy. Mother Macrina has told me, she thinks he is a living saint and fully expects him to be canonized after his death.

This is the day that the Lord had made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Congrats! I hope all goes well with your daughter and for the baby. I have been to Rives Junction. When I was younger, my dad had a parish in Detroit and we had an outreach to give the monastery supplies. I was there every month for years.

Lots of wonderful news. It is great to have so many good things going on but it can be tiring too. Take care of yourself and update us when you have a chance.

With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

What an exciting (and probably tiring) time for you and your family! Make the most of this special time the Lord has given you. You are a good mom, and that comes first, far ahead of any internet demands!
Prayers for all of you!

Hi everyone - I've been gone for a while, vacationing. We had a wonderful time visiting grandkids, friends, and participating in my husband's 45th reunion. We also had an overnight stay at the Holy Dormition Monastery in Rives Junction, MI
www.dormitionmonastery.org/
and attended a Wednesday morning Liturgy there.

It's good to be home, though temporarily -- I don't know how much I will post now through the month of July. My daughter is due to give birth to their 5th child on July 8. She is married to a priest, and just this year they received their first parish (St. George Orthodox Church in Spring Valley, IL) This little church is thrilled to have them, and is planning to send the whole family to the Parish Life conference in Ft. Wayne, IN the last week in June. I will go with them this time to help with the grandkids, and also just in case my daughter goes into labor early. (She usually doesn't and as she said to me "Mom, there are hospitals in Ft. Wayne!") She's been giving birth at home, but is not adverse to a hospital if necessary. We'll see.

Pray for us, and Fr. Andrew & Kh. Patty as they welcome a new member into the family sometime in the coming month.

Also, when she gives birth I will stay with her for a while helping out -- I don't think I'll have much time for internet play!

God bless you all! Thanks to all of you who have been keeping this team alive!!!
