Hi -- and another year his gone by on the September Chat thread! It is September 2011. Looking back, I was just getting into my new job. Unfortunately I ended up leaving in June. Much as I loved my co-workers and students, management was to weird for me. I got reprimanded for "embarrassing a child" - I discovered she had lied and I talked to her very directly albeit gently about the situation. I think she was relieved that she didn't have to continue the preposterous story. Also, based on the story the child told, management called the police and had the neighborhood swept for guns, without even asking me, the teacher on duty, what really happened! The child was believed without even consulting me, and I was removed from supervising children, for not keeping a "safe environment."

We are able to get insurance now through COBRA, and I am thinking about applying to sub at another school. I'm pretty disgusted with the whole mess! Meanwhile, I'm enjoying being home and I'm learning about lacto-fermented foods. I've been making pickles that turned out pretty good, and my first batch of sauerkraut is just about ready. We'll have some at supper tonight.

How are all of you with Fall just around the corner?

God bless you all!
~RuthAnn

Hi everyone. It's September 2010! Sorry I've been rather AWOL here. My new job at the preschool is going great. I love it, and I have the distinct impression that is where I am to be, but it sure takes up a lot of my time! I love the kids and my co-workers and couldn't ask for a nicer place to work. One thing I need to get used to there is the large number of kids with gay parents - 2 daddies, or 2 mommies. I guess our preschool is well-known in the gay community. But those kids need love and nurturing just as much or more than the kids with straight parents (a mommy and a daddy). You can tell with some of the older kids - I don't think it is just my imagination - especially the boys with 2 mommies. They seem to have an angry demeanor - as if they realize they've been cheated out of having a daddy, and they don't think its fair - although they haven't said as much.

Also, I'm busy sewing my grandson's baptismal outfit. The date of the baptism is 2 weeks from tomorrow. At least I got some fabric with a fancy edge so I would have to hem it.

God bless you all,

Well, last week was busy but everything went well -- and now my house is really clean too! We live in a wooded area, and I sure vacuumed up a lot of spiders!

Our bishop is a wonderful man. We enjoyed having him stay at our house. And we've found out he's on Facebook and is allowing people to "friend" him! He's also started a Facebook group for our Diocese!

Our own priest is rather suspicious of Facebook, but our bishop was encouraging him to join. This is one way young people can find the church!

Then, on Saturday after he and his assistant left, our son called and he was up in Wisconsin on a field trip (from his college in Chicago) and wanted to come home for the weekend so I picked him up at a town about an hour and a half away and brought him home.

Sunday after church I drove our son back to school and spent the night at my daughter's who also lives in Chicago and got to play with my two adorable granddaughters. I'm finally home again, and trying to catch up on laundry and Sparkpeople.

What a joy to see we have some new members! Welcome!

I hope all is well with all of you on the team! God bless you,
~RuthAnn

Sorry I won't be on much this week. We have our bishop coming this Friday and he'll be spending the night at our house. I have some cleaning to do...

Hi everyone - I'm back! We had a great time at the reunion. Our family had a quad cabin to ourselves - a cabin with 4 bedrooms and 4 baths, and interconnecting doors. The weather was absolutely wonderful, so even though we did not have an indoor common room, we had lots of fun outside, including a campfire. I think it was the first time that our immediate family had gotten together all summer. So our older daughter, son-in-law and two grand daughters were there along with our college age son and daughter.

Then there were all the relatives we rarely see plus other shirt-tail relations we had never met before and all the new little cousins the same age as our grandkids. All the old family stories and pictures were great. People came in from all over the country to the little ancestral town where we held the event.

This was our first ever family reunion (so my daughter asked "How can this be a REunion if we have never done this before? This must be a "union" Next time will be the "REunion!")and it has been fun. I do hope we have another reunion again someday!

Hi everyone -

Just letting you know I won't be posting until next Tuesday. I'm off to our first-ever family reunion!

As I posted on the "What's for Supper" thread:

Last spring one of the family "patriarchs" passed away, and at the funeral people began to talk about having a get-together this fall before anyone else passes away. I haven't met some of the cousins' spouses or children, so this will be fun. There will be a lot of little kids - including my grandchildren - running around the campground/resort/state park where we'll be!

We'll be back on Sunday in time for vigil for the Elevation of the Holy Cross. Then we'll be at Liturgy the next morning and observe the rest of Monday as a fast day. I'll post again on Tuesday.

I just saw a raccoon outside our screened in back porch! He sure got the dog and cats all excited. They were out on the porch watching him. He was meandering around very slowly -- I think he must be old. We do get visited by wild life here. Once I saw deer in the back yard.

Thank goodness we aren't in Colorado -- they have to deal with cougars and black bears coming right into the towns and suburbs. We have friends out there. In order to have a dog run, it has to be totally enclosed by cougar proof fencing -- more like a cage than a normal dog run!

Happy New Year! Today is September 1, the beginning of the Church New Year. One of the last feast days in August was the Dormition (death, burial, and resurrection) of the Theotokos. A week from today, on September 8, we will celebrate her birth. And so the cycle of Feasts and Fast begins!

God bless you all!
