It's December again -- almost the end of 2011! Where did the year go? How is the Nativity Fast going for you? Anyone have any Christmas plans? Is anyone making any special Christmas presents for loved ones? What is your Christmas dinner like?

Best wishes for a truly blessed Advent!

Hi Everyone! It's high time I brought up the December Chat. I hope everyone is in better health than last year! Sorry I haven't posted much this month. Working full time keeps me from being on Spark as much as I used to. It's kind of funny - several of my friends are retiring and me? I'm starting a new career as a preschool teacher. Right now I'm delighted to be on winter break. I was so exhausted I took a long nap this afternoon and we are playing hooky from Vespers. We'll have lots of Church next week though to make up for it!

Blessed final week of Advent to you all!

Dear Salty --

I hope your husband continues to recover.

Most recent development for me is that yesterday I broke a rib while coughing from the pneumonia. I bent over to pick something up while coughing and the doctor says that's one of the worst things you can do (cough while bending over) because the pressure of the cough has nowhere to go but through the rib cage.

Anyway -- I hope that's the last of this bad luck and I will continue to get better and better each day. I still won't be posting much for a while.

What a strange Christmas this is turning out to be. I'm home with pneumonia. I saw the doctor yesterday, and he prescribed some antibiotics and said if I got any worse I needed to go to the hospital. So far I'm okay at home.

Hope the rest of you are healthy!
Blessed Christmas!

Since I still have the flu, and Christmas is fast approaching, I don't think I'll be doing any more posting until after Christmas... or perhaps January.

Other people should feel free to post if they have anything interesting to share. Otherwise, there are plenty of threads on this Spark Team to browse through.

A Blessed Christmas to all of you!

I'm being called in to work as a substitute (Montessori School aide or teacher) more than I expected which is great experience. It will certainly help to fill out my resume. Substitutes don't get insurance benefits, though, which is my ultimate goal, but I'm enjoying the work anyway -- I feel like I'm being paid to be who I already am -- gramma! Unfortunately, it does mean less time on Spark. I hope other people will feel inclined to post and keep this team going!

Salty - what are you going to school for? I enjoy classes and learning. Perhaps I will go on for actual Montessori training on of these days.

Some snow is in the forecast for the area for tomorrow but I'm not sure if we're supposed to get any. I hope not because I have school tomorrow. Oh well, I'm glad I have a vehicle with four-wheel drive.

Good Morning all! Looks like we've got an inch or two of snow on the ground, with more lightly falling. I'm about to take my dog out in the first snow of the season. It always makes him excited and happy to see the snow. He's part black lab, and the cold doesn't seem to bother him. I hope you all have a great day. I've been called in to work at the preschool today.

God bless,

Hi everyone! We're experiencing our first snow of the season today. Nothing on the ground yet -- just tiny flakes falling past my kitchen window.

Well - time for me to get on with my day! Vacuuming and laundry, here I come!

A happy December 2009 to all of you! The previous posts on this thread were from 2008. It's interesting to look back over the year. Last year I was planning to have everyone at our house. This year, older daughter is pregnant with our next grandchild, so we will drive to their house in Chicago in the afternoon after our Christmas liturgy to celebrate with them. And, younger DD is no longer dating the same young man. So things change from year to year. I wonder what changes we will see in this thread next year!

Blessed Advent!

Good morning team mates! How is the season progressing for you? Tonight we have vesperal liturgy for St. Herman of Alaska, and St. Lucia the virgin martyr of Syracuse. Tomorrow, in our parish, the stricter fast begins (different parishes and jurisdictions handle the Advent fast differently -- please follow the instruction of your local priest), so no more fish, and no more olive oil and wine on week days for us (Saturdays and Sundays we are allowed oil and wine) until Christmas Day.

Christmas is definitely approaching. I'm driving to Chicago tomorrow to pick up my son. I look forward to my younger daughter coming home in another week. Older daughter and family should be arriving around the 20th. And sometime immediately following Christmas younger DD's new boyfriend will come to visit! We'll have a full house!

Things are getting busy -- I may not be able to post very often now. God bless you all!

Blessed Advent!

Brrrrrrr... It's +3F out there today. I just was out with the dog. Thank God, there's no wind and the sun is out! Yep -- I got more done at home yesterday because of the storm. I think we got 6 inches or so of snow. I still have a lot more to do if I've going to be ready for the kids and grandkids coming home for Christmas, so I'd better get off the computer and get moving!

A good day to all of you -- God bless!

Well, here in CT it had been pretty chilly, but now it's beginning to warm up - for a couple days then the temps will drop back down again.
I've found that I need a bad weather day every now and then to force me to catch up on laundry and such. When I'm done, I'm so glad that the weather was bad because I've gotten so much accomplished.

How is everyone? We're having a major snow storm here in the Madison, WI area -- actually the snowflakes are more like tiny ice crystals. There is a layer of ice under this "snow." No one is going anywhere. All of the area schools are closed. I'm glad that I did my grocery shopping yesterday! Looks like I've got a day to catch up on laundry and bill-paying!

God bless you all,

Anastasia -- I hope you had a blessed time at the monastery. Please share a tidbit of your experience with us -- maybe a new observation, or a sentence from Sunday's sermon, or a little of what you did when you were there. As a convert from Protestantism, I'm not very familiar with monasteries. Our ladies group once went to a retreat at the Romanian Monastery in Rives Junction MI and I was so impressed by the joy I saw on the faces of all the nuns.

A few years ago there was a Pan-Orthodox conference in the Milwaukee area about the future of women in the Church. Some of the speakers were rather disturbingly more women's lib than we expected. When we got home we talked to one of our old cradle Orthodox women and she said, "Were any of the speakers nuns?" The answer was no. "Well then, how can you have a conference on women in the Church without listening to what a nun has to say?" she asked. Excellent question!

God bless you!

Thanks for the encouragement, Saltychocolate. I'll be going down to Chicago with DH today -- be back tomorrow. Unfortunately we have to miss the St. Nicholas Vesperal Liturgy tonight for a business obligation/party. Back tomorrow, and then Sunday we'll have our St. Nicholas program and potluck after Divine Liturgy. I hope to be back tracking my food on Monday.

I'm so happy to see all of you new members! Welcome! What's the weather like in your area? We got a couple of inches of snow on Sunday and more is coming. Even though it's not official on the calendar, winter seems to have arrived - at least here in Wisconsin!
