Can you believe it -- only a week to go before the Advent Fast begins (for new calendar Christians -- old calendar have about 3 weeks still!) God bless you all as you prepare your hearts for the Advent season!

This is the day that the Lord had made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Oops! November is more than half over before I got around to posting on the November Chat thread!

Where has the time gone?

Sorry -- as you all know, I'm working full time now -- after spending nearly 30 years as a stay at home mom. This is taking some getting used to, and I really don't have much time for Sparkpeople, but will do what I can. I welcome any help, conversation, challenges, etc... from anyone who wants to participate on this team!

Well Thanksgiving is bearing down on me like a freight train. The whole family is coming home. Younger daughter is bringing home her new boyfriend. Our son will be home, and also our older daughter with her family including our 3 grandkids. I have my work cut out for me this coming week!

God bless you all!

Thank you RuthAnn! I have printed out 3 copies in different sizes to put on my dresser mirror, my bathroom mirror, and on my car viser! I may print another and put it in the kitchen.

It's amazing but this is exactly how I feel. Absolutely amazing! Thank you again!

Here is a prayer I like in time of trouble. I found it in an Orthodox prayer book published by the Holy Protection Orthodox Monastery in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. I don't know what jurisdiction they are under.

"The dark clouds of trouble gather above me, O Lord, and the grief of torments terrify me. Though I find myself in a state of suffering, I do not complain against You, O Good One, for You are my support and the unshaken rock upon which I place my hope. You know, God the cause of my wretchedness and sorrows, and You continue to look after me. Even in my suffering I know that You love me, and it is this very knowledge that strengthens me. Thus, hoping in Your love and goodness, I shall not allow these assaults to overcome me; rather I will fight with courage, and confident in Your help, I shall be victorious. It is You who guide the world and the fate of mortals; thus direct the ship of my life which is assailed by the waves of temptation, so that it may reach the calm harbor. Alone, I fight in vain against the tempests of life, for without You I can do nothing. I therefore flee to You, O Good One and I pray: Come to my aid and save me by Your might, just as You once saved Peter who came to You upon the water. Stretch out Your hand to me as You did to him, O Lord of mercy, and do not delay. Amen"

This is the day that the Lord had made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ... May God bless you for taking the time to pray for and encourage us.

As for the PF .. I have gone through conservative treatment including the special inserts. Then it came back in one foot. So we did the night splint for awhile. In the mornings my foot would be fine to walk on but during the day if I sat at all and rested my foot for just a few minutes the pain would be back and forget it if I sat down for lunch, the pain would be unbearable. So currently I am in an aircast all day long and I can walk around pain free - in fact i can even jog with the girls! But it's a pain of course to deal with it and I'm afraid i will need a steroid injection. Once the insurance issue is figured out I can make an appointment with the new podiatrist (changed insurance companies) and see what they say about it.

I will be very busy this weekend and most of next week, so I might not see y'all til the end of the month or beginning of December. We go to court December 2nd. Please continue to pray ... there is a possibility of jail time which would devastate us (everyone in the law field keeps telling us there's no way they'll send him to jail, but the DA is after jail time just because that's the way he is). Yet at the same time I know God will be with us no matter what happens!!

What truly horrendous circumstances you are going through! I pray that you will be able to look back on this post next year and see the miraculous ways that God will use to bring you and your dear ones through the coming year. As St. Phileret of Moscow says in his morning prayer: "Teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout this day with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Thy will governs all. In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events let me not forget that all are sent by Thee." (If you want me to quote you the rest of the prayer, let me know, but I assume you probably are familiar with it.)

Most of the stuff going on in your life, I can't help you with, except to pray. As to the plantar faciitis, I was suffering from that too. I finally went to a podiatrist, and he gave me a steroid injection, and fitted me with some special shoe inserts. He said the steroid injection might wear off in anywhere from a week to a year, but so far it seems to have fixed the problem, and my plantar faciitis has been gone for 7 months. I'll keep you informed if it comes back.

Well, I hope things work out for you to have a talk with your priest soon. And I thank God that you know His presence in the midst of all the problems. Can you imagine going through stuff like this without Him.

This is a fallen world, and as long as we are here we will face problems and tribulations. Anyone who claims that Christianity will keep a person from suffering doesn't know what he is talking about.

As Jesus said to his disciples on the night before He was crucified: "These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." John 16:33

I think that is a lovely idea! I wish I could devote so much more time here!!
Things have gone topsy-turvy around here, as they always tend to do, and as per the normal little luxuries like logging in or chatting are the things that go first.
We could certainly use some prayers for our two middle boys, Hunter and Christian. Hunter, 18, has quit school and bumming around among other things that I'd rather not go into. He stays with friends because his mom kicked him out and he doesn't like that he has to follow the rules here (no girls in the bedroom, etc). Christian, 17, ran away from home and is now with his dad, all because his dad lives near the girl he wants to be with and we don't. He lied to both us and his dad but I wouldn't have found this out except that his phone was taken away at school and I didn't pick it up 'til after he ran away, so I read all of the text messages and found this out. He ran away when I grounded him from his phone (which I was just going to leave at the school for the week as it had gotten taken away the day before) and the computer for a week for disrespect and disobedience.

Thankfully, the rest of the children are watching this happen and are getting along better than ever. But it still breaks our hearts that these boys are doing this.

Add to this our own physical/medical problems (my plantar fasciitis, Terry's severe sleep apnea and high blood pressure and hole in an artery in his arm from a blow out while donating blood and the ensuing scar tissue, plus the hole in his leg we are trying to figure out is growing or not...), our families medical/health issues (Terry's step-dad is on his deathbed, my dad is losing blood and they don't know where and is on an indefinite medical leave from work again, my grandmother is having blood flow problems affecting her memory and mimics dimensia, my grandfather with his asthma and emphysema and isn't doing so well especially having to care for my grandmother so much when she can't get around, my uncle who just got put in a VA home because all of his problems are more than my aunt can handle but not bad enough to stay in the hospital), some legal stuff Terry is going through that we were told was completely dropped and resolved, a severe drop in income, school messing up my paperwork, the house I got out of the divorce developing a leak and the tenants who were supposed to be my friends not telling me about until the ceiling fell in and now I'm going through having to fix up the house (thankfully homeowner's insurance is taking care of it) but it's taking time and I am having to pay the mortgage since "my friends" were $3000 in arrears and now no one is in the house until it can be fixed, .......... I'll stop now because there is more but I don't want to bring anyone down!!!

At first I was okay, with everything that was happening and just prayed gave everything to God, then my son ran away ... at first I was upset and shocked, then I read the text messages and it all made sense, and while I definitely didn't agree with it, somehow it made me feel better and again I prayed and gave it all to God ... then the medical problems started piling on which just added stress to everything, but I was still doing alright .... then the legal stuff suddenly showing back up when it was supposed to be all dropped and taken care of (this is stuff that went on while he was married to his ex-wife that he is paying for now) and well I finally lost it for a little bit.

Thankfully we have a God that hugs us when we ask for it and gives so much comfort that it's unending .. Praise the Lord!! So for a little while I felt sorry for myself, but then Terry and I sat down and said that we weren't going to allow all of this to get us down and affect everyone's lives, that we were going to let it go and allow God to handle it all AND accept how it's all handled. It's completely out of our hands at this moment and what happens is what happens. God will see us through as He has always done .. but so many times I didn't enjoy that He had me in His hands because I was so downtrodden and selfish thinking of poor poor me ... it wasn't until later that I could clearly see how HE had me and carried me through to the other side. This time though, I choose to see everything He is doing and realize that HE is there every single step of the way and carrying me when I least think I can do it.

Soooo sorry!! I didn't mean for this post to turn into all of that, but apparently I needed to get it out somewhere. So many do not know what all is happening in our lives and I can't talk to them about it. We are attempting to set up time to speak with Father but so far all of our attempts are being thwarted in some manner or another. Some people know something is happening but we haven't told them what, we've just asked them to pray.

Thank you for even reading. Sorry to hijack the thread like that!!!

Well, the previous posts in this tread are all from a year ago. I started adding these monthly chat threads last year, and now in the coming months I will add to the previous year's monthly chat thread. If this feature on our spark team ever takes off and people do post here, we'll be able to look back at the previous year and what we were thinking and doing then. Hopefully we will be able to give thanks to God for the past 12 months, and maybe even remember and see progress!

Well, we had our first snow today. There's a light dusting of it now on the ground -- it'll probably melt off by tomorrow. What's the weather like in your part of the country?

I'm excited! Yesterday I visited with a woman in our Church who makes our priest's vestments because this summer my son-in-law will likely be ordained to the priesthood and I hope to make his vestments. My friend had made her own patterns from our priest's existing vestments and has made several other sets for him for various feasts and seasons of the church year.

I thought her idea for making patterns was quite clever -- she made permanent pattern pieces out of interfacing material and wrote instructions right on the material. I've borrowed her patterns and am making copies. I will have to make some adjustments -- my priest is about 6'6" and my son-in-law is about 5'5", but priestly robes aren't closely fitted so it shouldn't be too hard -- it's just a lot of sewing and a lot of time attaching the trim and various crosses (you buy them pre-embroidered and sew them on).

My son-in-law is already a Subdeacon. He will be ordained a Deacon sometime before Lent -- possibly at Christmas. He can use his Subdeacon's vestments as a Deacon, he only needs to have cuffs, so that will be my first project. I figure that sewing his first complete set of Priest's vestments will be my Lenten activity.

Indeed Ruth Ann. I just sent an e-mail to two of my friends about this. His vote against The Born Alive Abortion Ban is beyond repulsive.

Indeed, may God grant us strength.

God help us! Here in the United States we have elected a president who promises to sign the Freedom of Choice Act -- totally legalizing all forms of abortion. 48 Million unborn children have already been slaughtered in this country. This continued genocide will become even easier. We have elected a president who has no respect for our military. We have elected a president with no accomplishments; no experience for the job. We have elected a president who will expand the welfare class. He will not inspire job and wealth creation but increase taxes to make us all poor. Who knows what laws he will enact against homeschooling families. Congratulations America! May God have mercy on us all.

May God grant us strength to stand up for His truth
and courage to face the future.
