I find with the day light savings I walk the dogs in the morning before work in the dark and after work in the dark. I do not like walking in the dark. But I know I have to to reach my 10,000 steps per day. Both Ernie and Wren like to walk, well they like to sniff and walk.

Good check-ups from the vet for the boys -- she wanted to biopsy a soft mass on one, but I convinced her it is the same as the other lipomas and she agreed.

I know it was posted a few months ago, but for future reference, Bach Flower Essences makes Rescue Remedy. It can safely be used on pets. We used the spray on our cat when we had to take her anywhere....works on dogs as well. You can purchase it online or at a natural/health food store.

Thunderstorms here today and my baby Foxy is pacing. I am going to sit in the floor and see if that helps her to be touching me. I may not get all of my exercising in today but who cares. My baby needs me.

Dear Saintbernards,
"You ain't no Saint Bernard! We recognize a colleague when we see one! signed, Ghost and Missy, Alaskan Malamutes in Texas, and thanx alot for sending that dang hailstorm our way!!"

Well Ghost and Missy you are so correct. I am not a saintbernard, I am a purebred Alaskan Malamute. My dad was giant malamute (he weighed almost 200 pounds) and my mom was regular malamute. As for the hailstorm---you are most welcome!!!! LOL

Mom's saintbernard name is from way before I arrived on the scene. Her and Dad used to breed saints. They did this for 10 years until Dad got sick and couldn't do it anymore.

I woke up with a warm muzzle in each hand getting licked by velvet tongues of 2 sleepy border collies who had adopted me about 5-6 yrs ago at a great local shelter. Life is so wonderfully rich when this can happen -- I do feel so very fundamentally blessed. Even if they are so wonderful, doesn't mean that they would always act so wonderfully, but they do. Healing, and staying more well, are so enhanced by the puppies, don't we know!

Sorry about that, they sometimes take over the keyboard. Both are on Glucosamine and MSM but not Chondroitin, and lots of Omega-3s, B-50, and Zinc (important for Northern breeds!). Ghost is slightly hypothyroid, we do an annual idexx panel. Yes, we got seriously whomped by the storm too, tree limbs all over the place, and the moon roof in my car has taken to leaking so it's all moldy in there plus breeding mosquitoes ... yes, everyone's on heartgard! We've hit 100 already and it's just June. Lordy. So much for my "long walks with dogs" goal.

It has been 3 months today since DJ hurt himself. About a month ago he had a big setback and had to be put back on the pain pills. He is doing good now but still has a long way to go to be completely healed---if he ever heals completely. His limp is less noticeable now. Some days he doesn't limp until late in the day or he gets real tired.

Good Morning,

I'm off to the dentist in a couple of hours. We are expecting three days of rain here in PA. The temperature dropped 20 degrees but we had the most incredibly wonderful weatherwise Memorial day weekend. I planted my garden yesterday ... a little late, I agree but I'm an amateur. I hope it grows.

I planted tomatoes (can't wait for them), bush beans and beets. I planted a patch of flowers including, hollyhocks, nasturtiums, sunflowers and zinnias from seed as well as a couple of dozen petunias (they smell so good).

A green tumb, I have not. I know from last year that I will spend part of the summer battling groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks ... God bless them.

Good Morning,

God sure knew how to slow down our area yesterday. He blessed us with a "nice" storm of 50+ MPH winds with hail. We were out of power from 8 AM until 11:30 PM.

After the storm blew over we got some beautiful sunshine to show off all the downed trees and blown around trash. I have 3 downed limbs. One daughter had a small lean-to blown down and another daughter got a broken window. None of us were hurt or even scratched so we praise God. Hopefully, grandson will cut the limbs after he gets home from work today esp the one on the fence.

Time to get dressed and take DJ for his morning walk. Still working on strengthening his injured hip.

Blessings to all....Elsie

Good Evening,

It has been such a long time since I have posted and a lot has happened. The worst on was on March 10. DJ hurt himself real bad then. he pulled all the muscles and tendons in his left hip. His medicine costs me $112 per month. The good news is that he only has to be on it for 4 to 6 months. He was on 2 pills a day but is down to 1 per day now. he is healing well. He still limps at times. I am very protective of him right now because at 6 years old this injury could become permanent damage.

I lost my forever dog one year ago...lost only in the physical sense. Everyone- just know they're still with us and they'll be there waiting for us when it's our time to go to the other side. I know she still checks in on me and my other dogs every now and then. I hope this helps you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a dog from the time I was 2 until 18 (I'm 26 now), and it was so sad when he died. I will always remember Lucky. I have a new dog now and that does make me feel better about the whole situation. Feel better soon! emoticon

Thanks for sharing the wisdom of getting a new pet after a loss. When that time comes, I know it will be hard. You can never really replace a pet. I still hold a special place in my heart for the pets I had long ago. Opening your heart to a new puppy or a rescue dog opens you to new love and to healing. How long you need to wait is different for each person. I am hoping my sister will get herself a kitten soon. She worries about going through the pain of loss again.

Thanks for all the good thoughts here that I can share with her. Those of you who are grieving are in my heart.

TO BLUEROAN2

hi, i am new on here, so haven't posted before, but thought i would offer a remedy that worked for me. my gsd had hip displacea, at only 3 yrs old after months of trying all usual remedies, costing lots, the vet said she had to be put to sleep. she couldn't even get up or down step, dragged her hind quarters. heartbroken and desperarate to try anything,i was told by a stranger to try arnica !! it comes in a tablet form, natural remedy, no side effects and compatable with all other medication. it is an old remedy for humans so i was dubious about his miraculas reports....but after just 2 weeks of taking them she was racing around like a puppy and stood on her back legs and supported her entire weight as she jumped up my 6'4" husband. she lived another 7 years and was in perfect health right till the end.

P.S. its brill for us humans as well for the same reasons.

The muzzle and the professional trainer are excellent steps to take. You may want to look at the book "Click to Calm." I had an opportunity to attend a seminar given by the author, who had an aggressive Golden Retriever. Good luck with your pup!

I am sorry to hear about Ozzie. Just remember all the fun you had together. I remember when I lost my beloved Trintrin, an Akita mix. She was such a sweet dog and she would "talk" to us all the time. She died at the age of 6, in my arms. The vet said that the cause of death was rat poison. We don't know where she could have gotten it. Her death was such a burden on the entire family, everyone spent an entire week crying over the loss. We finally rescued another Akita and she made the healing easier. She is now 6 years old and begining to show her age. It will be really hard to lose her too, since she has won a place in everyone's hearts. My daughter calls her "little sister". When she leaves us, we will get another Akita. That will be the only way that we will be able to deal with loosing her.

I have three other dogs here who are helping me get through this. People have offered me other dogs, but I'm just not up to it. What's scary is that two of the three are 12 and 13 years old, so I'm afraid I'll be doing this again in the near future.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Hi all. It's been a horific week. We had to put our baby, Ozzie. to sleep. He was 14 years old, but I miss him so much. It was the first time I've ever had to do that. He was so gorgeous. Part collie part husky. And he had the greatest disposition, as long as you weren't a cat. It was so hard. It was the right thing to do, but I hated doing it. I can't imagine my life without dogs in it, but this part is just awful. emoticon

I'm a Maineac ,maybe a bit of a maniac also, and i have social phobia and a fear of not being able to express myself well....so if I ever say or do something that hurts please accept my deepest apologies...I never wish to hurt any of my other human buddies,.not ever...and definitely not my furry or feathered 2 and 4 legged pals...
Life is short and we all share this planet and need to learn to get along in peace and truth...

Just yield to your own common sense...be careful not to give them any people foods that are toxic but otherwise just let them have bits of your foods when they eat their own foods up....like a dessert treat...first poochy you eat your food then you can have ppl food treat...like my poochy was doing like your's...i've gotten smart in my old age60yrs...i now have her eat her poochy food and then she can have a taste of mine....she loves popcorn and hot radishes....lol

This evening found out that long dress, little dogs, and the steps into my house don't mix. I was going to a OES function and trying to get the dogs in the house when "WE" had an accident. Have jammed my right elbow and twisted my back, am in pain and can hardly walk. Icing down and on meds but still smiling because the "Girls" keep bring me "gifts"(dog toys, chew bones and even a few piece of dog chow). Laughing...Gawd how I love em.

it takes practice but if she's already doing good with the run / jog (voice/verbal commands) - you should have good luck with the bike attachment. I have one, it's called a "Springer" and it has a safety detatch www.springerusa.com/

I've used it with one of my dogs, but the other dog I have could kill me with it as she always does a bolt for a squirrel ... so I think it really depends on your dog as to how well it will work!

I want to teach my dog to run with me while I'm biking like she does when I jog and walk, and I've seen people who have special harnesses to do that... she's very obedient and not too heavy, but I'd still be worried she'd make me crash!!!

Have you ever noticed, the smaller the dog the faster the human has to be to catch them? Sorry had to throw that in there... I am the one with arthiritis so I have to explain to the dogs how far we go, they have to have sainthood for dogs, mine put up with my whinning, my aches and pains all in stride. LOL! But the vet told me they have a joint gel for dogs with arthiritis that you can rub em down after exercising. It has a minty smell.

Riley has a touch himself, so we do two walks rather than one long one ... asprin can be given but there can be some side effects, so it's best to check with the vet first before going there ... you can also use some supplements to help!

I don't walk him when it's really cold or when he will get soaked to the skin because the cold doesn't help and he has a heated bed that we plug in during the winter as warmth helps keep him limber.

You want to check for any signs the following day that the outing was too much (he limps, he wants to stay in one place, he doesn't stretch as far, hesitation to do anything, etc.) ... so you don't over-do!

Take short walks several times a day or rest during long walks. My daughters vet gave her Rimadyl for her dog and she is not even a year old yet. I know you can give a dog either tylenol or aspirin (I can never remember which one).
The dog does need some exercise go slowly.

Just want to say that I think this is a very friendly team. The leaders made me feel very welcome when I joined! All of them sent me a welcome note.

Thanks!

I'm doing the Fireplug 500 next week to benefit the ASPCA. If anyone would like to donate, Please let me know. I can give you the website or you can give me your personal email and I can send it that way also. Please let me know. It is a great cause to help the animals in need.
