You can find inspiration from others, but determination is solely your responsibility.

Sometimes, my determination does get weak. I feel myself starting to "throw in the towel", so to speak. When that happens, I love going to the success stories and reading what they share and looking at the before and after pics of these people who have achieved their goals. Then, I go upstairs and open my trophy draw where I keep back one pair each of my jeans as I have gone down a size and put on the largest pair. I stand in front of the mirror and see with fresh eyes, how far I have come. We don't always see the changes in our body as the weight comes off one pound at a time, just as we do not see the changes as the weight came on one pound at a time.

I know I cannot be perfect. I had to learn to forgive myself for slips and then start over on the SAME day with the next meal or snack. Finally, it hit home...not only am I losing a little here and there but...I have stopped the gain too. THAT is worth so much to me.

I'm gonna lose weight. I'm gonna exercise everyday. I gonna go on a diet and stick to it...is that cake?

I found this funny but....also true. Have you ever started out with that mentality of "all or nothing" ? Setting up those goals that are all but impossible to accomplish? Telling yourself you will do this and do it right EVERY DAY? You are going to DIET and lose the weight by ...being perfect in your daily goals?

Not going to happen. Sorry. Diets are a short term fix. We can all lose weight and have many times and then once off the diet...gain it back. None of us should be on a diet. In order for the weight loss to be permanent...we need to learn to eat healthy...learn to handle every day stresses without running to the fridge etc...and learn to eat everything in moderation. There are no restrictions for what we eat BUT there needs to be portion control.

Repeat...we are NOT on a diet. Diets don't work. I have tried so many different diets and once I reached goal...going back to the old me meant...gaining it back. We are changing our relationship with food. We are taking control of our responses to whatever life throws at us. We are learning to eat for good health.

Strength is the ability to break a chocolate bar into four pieces with your bare hands and then eat just one of the pieces.

NOTHING is off limits but moderation and controlled portions is key for success. When having a "treat"....shut yourself off from the world and savor every bit of flavor. It is mindless eating or eating on the run that gets me in trouble so I make sure I am "in the moment" when treating myself.
