It is important to let go of perfectionism. None of us are perfect on this Journey to good health. We all slip up or...yes, mess up. What IS important is to learn from you mistakes, so to speak. Identify WHY it happened. WHY did you go off track? Then, ask yourself, what you can do differently next time. There is always a next time. We need to learn to deal with what life can throw at us without food.

Don't start over the next day. Start over right away with the next meal or snack. At the end of the day...give yourself highfives for what you did right and look at areas you want to improve in and start a mini goal for it.

Everyone, have a great day....and it does NOT have to be a perfect day.

I do mini goals every day. A small doable goal that helps keep my motivation up. Something that can be accomplished and helps me feel in control. Every accomplished mini goal that becomes a new habit is a stepping stone to the next mini goal and to the final goal. I am not someone who can make huge changes overnight. My bad habits are too deeply engrained and a part of me and they fight to keep the upper hand. Sometimes, it may take as many as 5 or more mini goals to get to that last big push and new habit. Even then, there are times the old me fights back but I am learning to put her in her place. One day at a time.

This is really ringing true for me right now. I have been dealing with a couple of stresses and it is all I seem to dwell on at the moment. They will resolve themselves over time. But, I have been eating for stress. They are affecting my sleep. My energy levels are affected.

And the scale is going to reflect that this week.

So, it is time to practice Gratitude. It is time to live in the moment. And it is time to put it in GODS hands and remember my mantra that "GOD is greater then any problem I have". He has never failed me. I am failing myself.

When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.

We all had a reason for beginning this Journey to good health. Something happened, something triggered us, something made us hurt...something made us say...NO MORE! It is when that event is new and fresh in our minds that our motivation is the strongest. As the "event" fades away", the motivation may start to wan also.

Write down in a private journal you "this is it" moment. When you feel your motivation slipping, go back and read it and let it motivate you again. Remember and relive the event.

I read this over and over and had to let it sink in and I thought....that is right! In order for me to see the results I want...I have to change my eating habits, and my exercise habits. I have to CHANGE my relationship with food.

At the end of the day, tell yourself gently: " I love you and you did the best you could today, and even if you didn't accomplish all you had planned, I love you anyway. "

You know this was a hard lesson for me. In the beginning of this journey to good health I would end the day and all I remembered was...what I did wrong. It made me feel like a failure with no will-power. And then later, as my resolve was getting weaker from what I thought was a losing battle (because I was not perfect each day) I would throw up my hands and say...I blew it and I will start over tomorrow. Soon, that was all I was accomplishing...starting over.

Now, at the end of the day...I point out to myself what I did RIGHT and I tell myself areas I want to improve in yet. Lessons that still need to be learned. Habits that still need to be changed. And when I "mess up"....log it and start over on the SAME day with the next meal , snack or goal. No more starting over tomorrow.

I cannot be perfect but...I can improve. AND, my best is good enough. I am not on a diet. I am learning to eat in moderation and for good health. emoticon
