I think the stress of college after a long break for Christmas caught him off guard.

We have had so many bugs around our home and with our girls the month of Dec and first week of Jan. I think we are finally all back on our feet. Hope you DH is over his and that is the last bout for all of you too.

I gave the same advice to all of my kids. DS was having problems this week but he came down with some sort of bug and that explained his bout of not sleeping.

Marsha, that is worth a try. I will do that. I have to admit my head is always thinking of the next task.

Sorry you are having such a siege with insomnia.
I think I sometime would work myself to exhaustion
but find that if I can just turn my mind off, it seems to work.
My mom told me to close my eyes, visualize the darkest
black I can and tell myself that I can take care of "it"
tomorrow. This doesn't work for everyone but it
works for me.

OK, I need to tackle this obstacle called Insomnia. My food diary is going to be so messed up today and low on calories.

Here is why. I finally fall asleep at almost 5 AM. That is the last time I remember rolling over , looking at the clock, and cussing. emoticon I usually get up when this happens and just wander around the house but don't accomplish too much because I AM tired.

Up at 11 am...6 hours sleep. Breakfast at 1 pm. If I eat my planned meals for today...I will be eating LATE and in turn...not falling asleep again.

Anyone else deal with erratic sleep patterns or have a hard time falling asleep? I just can't seem to turn this around. :( HELP!!

I am on my fifth day of another insomnia episode and walking around like a zombie. emoticon

ME! Knowing when to slow down or stop. Being self-employed is hard work and we make appointments but the door never really closes at 5.

Oh ASRMOM...I do fully understand what you are saying. I really do.

I bought a book by Melody Beattie called "the Language of letting go" of Daily Meditations. It has been my second Bible so to speak. It is one thought a day and a prayer and deals with learning to focus on self.

This past year I have taken the time to address other "issues" and what you are saying....I've been there. Taking care of self is NOT selfish. It is good self-esteem. I am always a work in progress too here.

But , on a huge high five...you have identified three triggers and I would tackle them one at a time. Start with reminding yourself ...you are NOT on a diet...because we aren't. Nothing is off limits. We are just retraining our portions which have gotten out of hand.

Hugs to both of you.

APRILMILLE227....Stress IS a huge trigger and hard to fight when you have others in the house that still want to have those treats or snacks around. It is a lot harder to fight or resist when you know the cookies or snacks are just behind the pantry door.

The only way I am able to combat is by telling myself...FIRST I will do some walking to try and get the stress under control. Then If I still want that snack...I let myself have one and eat it very slowly...sucking every bit of flavor and texture out of it. I go into a quiet room...and ate it with no distractions whatsoever.

That is kind of hard with kids too I know. When I am watching my 3 year old Grandson, I cannot even go to the bathroom in private. LOL

Me!

Really it is. I eat when I'm stressed, bored, or dieting. I struggle with knowing my self-worth and undermine my efforts to improve myself. It doesn't make much sense, but it is true.

Stress eating. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs.. but when I'm stressed I eat. And with three children and a husband who could count as the forth.. stress is my middle name.

I will Conquer ME!!

Mine? Dealing with insomnia is a biggie.

I have tried over-the-counter sleep aids. I went to a Doctor more then once and got prescription sleep aids. I have read up on insomnia and tried different suggestions such as staying off the computer or any thing that is stimulating after a certain hour of the evening. Reading a boring book or taking a warm bath. Not exercising too late in the evening.

I can go for days without being able to fall asleep before 3 or 4 AM. I set my alarm to try and wake up at the same time every day. That means that some days are started on two or three hours of sleep. Finally, when I am totally exhausted...I do fall asleep right away.

This is hard on achieving good health. It messes with my energy levels.
