The McDougall Plan really works!! My cholesterol started to reduce when I gave up meat, but when I went on the McDougall Plan and cut out dairy and cheese--It dropped like a lead weight (no pun intended).

Thanks for posting your results--it will be inspiring for others.

Yes, I understand how difficult it is to stay on plan when eating out (especially when travelling). I haven't totally mastered eating out and don't feel comfortable asking a poor run of the mill restaurant to overhaul what they do for little me! I have found some ways to minimize the saturated fat when eating out. I just do the best I can.

My suggestions on this team are meant to give people options they haven't thought of for making things without saturated fat. IT takes awhile to train your palate to like and accept them.

Best of luck!

Yes thank you. I did post this question at 3 different teams for vegetarians/vegans trying to get advice from people that may not be in another team.

I really appreciate your comment, lots of good information, I will take it to heart and put it to use as best l can. No oil, well... I think most of the time I can do that but it is a little difficult eating out.

Another comment was made on a different team regarding I may need to give this more time to see results and that makes sense too. Although McDougall was saying people are having improvements in two weeks I was told to give it 3 to 6 months and I think thatís really fair.

I do hope that Iíll be able to go off the pills and maintain normal blood pressure by eating a healthy diet that would be awesome, cholesterol too!

Here is what I wrote on your other post. I hope that it will help others by reposting here.

I agree that we are not perfect and that progress IS better than Perfection. Another way of saying it is "Don't let Perfection be the enemy of progress."

Besides the things mentioned:
--Drink more water. thick blood makes for higher blood pressure. Try to have 1/2 your body weight in water intake per day (as in, 75 oz water if you weigh 150lbs).

--Many WFPB Doctors recommend having a serving of greens (high nitrates) with every meal to increase the nitric oxide (NO). This causes the blood vessels to dilate, or open more. nitric oxide (NO), the most powerful vasodilator we have, so arteries will dilate to their fullest. Esselstynís favorite 6 Ďgreensí for NO production are kale, spinach arugula, swiss chard, beet greens, beets. Here are some other good "greens" for this purpose are bok choy, collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, napa cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cilantro, parsley and asparagus.

--reduce the salt in your diet. Frozen vegetables (without additional ingredients) have no salt compared to a can of vegetables. Canned tomatoes have a TON of salt. As do peanut butter, ketchup, salsa and other condiments. Better to make your own from scratch, use frozen ingredients rather than canned.

--NO OIL. Oils cause blood pressure to be higher because they constrict the blood vessels. Also reduce all fat consumed (nuts, peanut butter, avocado, meat)

I can't answer because this wasn't my issue. Even Dr. McDougall will say that there is a small percentage of his patients who continue to need medication. There are some things that you can tweak to see if there are some additional thing you can try. I posted them elsewhere (maybe for you? ) on another thread/team. I'll look for that and try to post here as well.

Best wishes!

Iíve been on this diet now for over one month and I was hoping to see my blood pressure dramatically lower.... Iím still having to take my pills so Iím curious how are other people doing?? I havenít had my cholesterol checked yet I will probably get that done in another month. I am still having my morning coffee...that is the one I thing I havenít given up, yet...

McDougall claimed in two weeks people had great improvements with blood pressure and cholesterol, so Iím curious how people have been doing.
